Strategic Ops Log #1

Posted on Monday 9 July 2018 @ 10:46 by Commander Cale Llewellyn DSci

317 words; about a 2 minute read

Cale walked into the lower level of the Tactical Information Center on Deck 5. He hadn't been in here since the ship launched and then only briefly; well at least not until he had joined the team on the Merlin that raised her from the ocean. He stepped up to the main control console and entered a command into it causing the room to come to life. The lights came on and the room buzzed with power. He then walked over to the central chair, sat down and began to speak;

"Computer, begin log."

"Well, it's official; I'm back on the Merlin but in yet another position: I'm Commander Barstow's Strategic Operations and Second Officer. Our new XO is a Marine and I'm more than a little dubious about two Marines being in command of a Starfleet starship. What is Command thinking? But then since this is a battleship I suppose they are the ones that should be in command. Everyone knows that having a Science Officer as second-in-command doesn't ever work.

"I've been thinking about stepping down as Second Officer since our new XO is more suited to being in command of this ship and also since our CFCO has more knowledge of the ship than I do at this point. I feel that Commander Barstow was being a little sentimental when he offered me the position since that's where I started out for him.

"Why would any commanding officer place a non-bridge officer as third in command? But then again I'm not in command and shouldn't second guess my commanding officer like this or even at all. It goes against everything I learned at Starfleet Academy. So why am I writing this into a log? Maybe I should delete this log and start over again or should I allow Commander Barstow read it allowing him the chance to assuage my fears and concerns?

"Computer, end log."
