ON:

Melody's eyes fluttered open. She was once again in sickbay. The biobed beeped softly as is displayed her vital signs.

For a moment she just lay there. What had happened? She remembered beaming out of the fighter. Collapsing on the transporter pad. Something about whiskers..........

She stopped as she looked down at her nose. It was furry with whiskers. The gentle beeping of the biobed became more frantic as her heart rate accelerated.

She looked at her hands. They were furry too.

Her mind was racing. Where was Save'ena? What had happened to Save'ena?

She screamed out at the top of her voice "SAVE'ENA!!!!!!"

Caroline came running when she heard yelling, sharing a glance with first one of her nurses and secondly the bio-bed readings. The occupant seemed confused and had a slightly elevated heartbeat but there was nothing medically wrong with her. "What's wrong? Your fine Save'ena. Why are you yelling your own name?" she asked confused.

Sav was in another biobed, separated from Melody, or rather, sight of her body by a drawn curtain. She was still woozy herself as she studied her hands, or rather, Melody's hands. Somehow, they had switched bodies, and to Sav, her senses were once again muted and she was greatly missing feeling and moving her tail. She gasped at hearing the scream by her own, lyrical voice coming from the other side of the curtain. She called out, "Here... Melody, I'm here... uhh, you're here. I'm you."

Melody heard a voice reply, but it was her voice. She took some deep breaths and tried to calm herself down. She heard her voice but she knew it was Sav'ena talking. Save'ena was in her body somehow. That meant........ Oh Boy! She called out again, a bit softer this time "Save'ena, are you ok?"

Sav was still confused. Her senses were muted, and of course, she didn't have her tail to feel and know was there. "I'm.. not sure, Melody. My senses are not where they should be. But, maybe they are like this because I'm in your body?"

Caroline was stood next to her, scanning her with a tricorder. She was looking at her rather funny, like she was loosing her mind.

Melody looked widely about. She grabbed hold of Caroline's sleeve trying not to hurt her. "Caroline. I'm Melody!"

"Not according to my tricorder," the blond doctor said in confusion.

Melody took another deep breath and spoke calmer "Caroline, I am Melody. The transporter........ it must have caused this. There must be some way i can prove it to you......". She started thinking.

Caroline bit her lip. This was all very weird but with these 2 officers she had to go on a little faith. "Okay," she addressed Save'ena's body, "When we first met. Describe what it was like?"

Melody went on "When we first met I was rather cold at first. I told you that doctors were normally interested in my Borg history and not me and you were the first doctor to ask about something else. I also told you how I almost broke the former first officers wrist and put him in a coma. I told you how Nibbles got her name and ........"

Caroline actually took a step back. In astonishment or fear of this crazy situation she was not sure. She bit her lip again clearly freaked out. "Okay so maybe something is not as it seems. Nurse activate some deep brain scans. Can we find evidence of some sort of conscious swap in a transporter malfunction? Bring up every previous incident of something like this. Lets see if we can work out what's happened. Sav," she started looking at the Mephetian's body. "No, Melody," she corrected herself. "We need to know exactly what happened. Which transporter room? so we can get the records."

Melody thought for a moment "It was transporter room 2, Ensign Brooks was on duty." She swung her legs off the bio bed and stood, almost loosing her balance. Her center of gravity was all wrong. She started moving towards the sound of her voice.

In the other room, Sav was laying there, not moving, as she did not trust herself to sit up. She was NOT feeling her tail, and on the muscles she would normally flex to move it were mostly missing. Her skin felt cold and weird with no fur, and when she went to lick her lips, her longer tongue was now shorter. Swapping with another races body to check it out, while fun in fantasy, was not that much fun in reality.

Melody drew the curtain back and stood for a moment, looking in shock at.......... Herself. Her mouth opened but no sound came out.

Sav heard the curtain draw back and saw.. herself, standing there, looking at her, muzzle open. She held up a hand to gently wave and said, "Hi... me?" One part of her mind, though, fixated on how her muzzle and face looked with the needle like front teeth now showing. Another part remarked to itself, 'There's where my tail went.'

Seeing the Captain enter, Melody brought herself to attention in Save'ena's body. "Captain, I'm not sure what happened but Lieutenant Tillatix and myself were caught in some kind of..... special anomaly. The new fighters lost all power and when an emergency beam out was initiated........ we seem to have ended up in each others bodies.

Melody could see the doubt in Caroline's eyes. She thought quickly. Turning to Save'ena, she said, "Sav. Ask the computer for Alpha 1 clearance." Knowing full well that Alpha 1 clearance was restricted to the Merlin's senior command officers, with Alpha 2 clearance restricted to the Captain only.

Sav frowned at the request. Her nose scrunched up, looking unusual on Melody's face, as she said, "Umm, you realize I don't have that clearance as I am not in direct command path for the Merlin."

Melody blew air though her lips......well, muzzle. "I know that, but the computer won't recognize your voice as being authorized."

Sav opened her mouth, the shut it. Melody was most definitely correct. She tried to churr, and only a 'hrmm' came out. Shaking her head, she grinned and said, "Your wish is my command. Computer, request Alpha One Clearance."

The computer beeped "Command authorization required, please enter command codes."

Melody moved to a nearby panel and quickly typed using her finger tips. As she entered the final sequence the computer beeped again.

"Command Codes accepted. Jones, Melody. Executive Officer. Priority clearance recognition Alpha One."

Melody turned and folded her arms "Satisfied?"

Sav shifted her hips, not realizing how weird it looked, as she now added, "I miss my tail..."

As if it heard her, Melody's tail flicked back and forth which made her jump slightly. "Woah. Please, tell me how I did that and also how I control it. Sweetie, You can have your tail back as soon as Caroline figures out how to reverse this, You can reverse this right, Caroline?"

"I don't even know how this has occurred," Caroline said truthfully. "I need to make some investigations in what's happened to create this situation."

Sav sat up on the biobed. She sat there to wait to see how this body would respond without her tail. She looked over to Melody in her body and said, "My tail is there for balance and protection. A lot of its movements are involuntary. You can control it, though with specific muscles in your abdomen and back. Umm, you will probably need someone to push and pull on the tail so you can feel them out. Just... make sure it is someone very trusted as any tail play, due to the nerves and how the muscles interact in your abdomen, lower back, thighs, is considered... umm, flirting, and.. ummm, foreplay." She blushed at her last words, not liking thinking about someone doing that to her body when she wasn't in it to protect it.

Melody blushed at that and said, "This is going to take some getting used to."

Caroline look from one to the other "My test indicate there are no other injuries so I'm releasing you both to your quarters but I'm taking you off active duty until we can resolve this. Then added, "I'm going to the transporter room to get more information." and with that she headed out of the room.

Melody had started to protest but Caroline's swift exit had made that impossible.

Sav stood up by the bed, then stayed there, leaning against it, as she worked on standing up without her tail behind her. She humphed out in humor and motioned for Melody to come over to her. "Come here, Melody, let me push on the tail so you can feel it out, while you can help me learn to stay on my feet without leaning forward and falling due to lack of a tail."
