ON::

Scarlet simply scowled. His eyes narrowed as his intense gaze seemed to make the cadet physically shrink away from him.

"Stand proper." He growled in a half whisper, just loud enough for the cadet to hear him. Instantly, and against all better instinct the cadet pulled back his shoulders and lifted his chin.

"Cadet McCarron." Scarlet began slowly, not taking his eyes off the young man. "You will explain your actions."

McCarron gulped and for a moment he wanted nothing more than to take back the last day. "I-I changed the replicator recipe sir. So that it replicated peanut oil in most recipes sir."

"I know what you did cadet..." Scarlet muttered grimly. "I want to know why."

"To see if Getson was really allergic to peanuts sir." McCarron said quickly, as if ripping off a bandage.

Scarlet sighed and walked back over to the desk he'd been assigned. He picked up his padd and brought up the medical report on it. "Cadet Getson went into anaphylactic shock and had to be rushed to medbay. It clearly states on his medical record that he is allergic, and since you said you wanted to know if he was really allergic... then I'm guessing you knew too."

"Cadet Getson had said as much sir."

"Then tell me again why you did it." Scarlet put the padd back on the desk and walked over in front of McCarron.

"We didn't believe him sir." McCarron said regretfully.

Scarlet just stood there staring at the young man. Almost an entire minute passed before he spoke. His words were firm and slow as he repeated McCarron. "We... didn't... BELIEVE... him." McCarron seemed to wince with every word as if Scarlet physically cut him with them. "Cadet Getson was your squadmate. He was supposed to be able to depend on you with his life and vice versa. The whole core belief of Star Fleet is to be able to trust and work together. You... you just took a shit on that."

McCarron gulped. He had keenly taken note of Scarlet's use of the past tense.

As if reading his thoughts, Scarlet continued. "Cadet Getson will be transfered to the USS Gander where he will finish his training in the company of those that he can trust. But you..." Scarlet quickly turned and walked briskly back to his desk. "You will be on extra duties with engineering maintenance."

McCarron went pale.

"Working directly for Ensign Getson." Scarlet said firmly.

"But sir, after what happened with his brother..." McCarron seemed to lose all pretense of decorum as the situation began to fully dawn on him.

"Ensign Getson is a officer of Star Fleet. I expect him to act as such. And you will have to trust that he will." Scarlet said without the slightest hint of a grin. "Dismissed."

"But sir..."

"DISMISSED." Scarlet snapped, moving quickly to stand in front of Cadet McCarron once more. The simple scowl was now replaced with a look of pure contempt and hatred. Scarlet's fists were clenched white at his side.

A moment after McCarron had raced out of the office liked a scalled cat, Scarlet let out a sigh. He'd taken his old posting on the Kingston back temporarily until he decided what he wanted to do. It was different now that he was an officer. The pips still made him itch. His plan had originally been to see through to the end of the year and then apply for active service again, using the Kingston to simply 'wash away' his experiences on the Merlin so he was ready for the next ship.

And then the word had been passed through. They'd found the Merlin intact and the USS Grissom was holding orbit. He'd spoken to the CO of the Kingston privately and since this was only a temporary post, he'd been allowed to vacate it due to the circumstances. He looked at the LCARS on his desk and noted the time. They should be rendezvousing with the Grissom shortly. Was it a bad thing that he was already packed?

Once on board, he'd speak with the Captain and then hopefully get put in touch with Commander Barstow.

=/\= Lieutenant Scarlet. This is the transporter room. We are within range of the USS Grissom. =/\=

=/\= Acknowledged.=/\= Came his curt reply.

He tapped his comm badge as soon as the link to the transporter room was closed. =/\= Lieutenant Scarlet to the USS Grissom. Requesting permission to beam aboard.=/\=

=/\= Lieutenant Scarlet, USS Grissom, Chief Brown here. Please stand by one second, I have to clear you first with the Ops Team.=/\=

=/\=Understood.=/\= Scarlet replied as he walked briskly to the transporter room with his barracks box. Some of the cadets saw him as he walked and whispered to each other. Scarlet scowled for good measure.

=== USS Grissom ===

Transport Chief Lisa Brown checked over the standing protocols for the current mission. Nobody but those on board were to know of it, and yet here was the USS Kingston with a transfer for the Ops? Then, she found him, one Lt. jg David Scarlet. He was sent a missive about the mission, but was listed as 'Unknown Arrival Status', and thus was not on the immediate mission operatives listing.

=== USS Kingston ===

=/\=Lt Scarlet, Chief Brown. Sorry for the wait. I found your listing, and an unknown for when arriving, you weren't included with the Mission Personnel, so I had to dig deeper. Permission granted. Are you and your things ready, sir?=/\=

=/\=Ready.=/\= Scarlet replied, standing firmly at attention on the transporter pad. He waited a moment and then felt the familiar tingling.

=== USS Grissom ===

The familiar transporter effect wrapped around David and his gear, and shortly he was on the USS Grissom transporter platform. Before him was a medium build brunet in a Chief's khakis. She smiled and said, "Welcome aboard the Grissom, Sir. Again, sorry for the delay."

"You already apologized." Scarlet said as he picked up his barracks box. He looked at Chief Brown and sighed. "Who do I report to for quarters and who is my contact."

Lisa, while liking the looks of Lt. Scarlet, was taken a little back by his first sentence. Since she had already looked through the guest manifest, she recovered and said, "Commander Barstow to both questions, Sir. He has control over all 10 guest staterooms and who is assigned where. However, he is not here right now as he is off ship on a mission, along with most of the others he brought along. Umm, only the first 7 staterooms are occupied, eight, nine, and ten are not assigned, so you could pick one of those till he gets back, if that helps."

"I'll have my things dropped off to quarters ten." Scarlet replied calmly. "You said most of his staff, who is on board?"

Lisa nodded and replied, "Second Lieutenant O'Reilly is on the Grissom, sir. She beamed aboard with a cyrostasis chamber and is currently in sickbay in an Isolation Area." A yeoman appeared at the entrance to the transporter room. "This is Yeoman Greiger, sir. He can take you to a guest quarters and then to either sickbay or to sciences to get into contact with Commander Barstow."

Scarlet thought for a moment. Simply contacting Commander Barstow to say hello would be a waste of both their time. He didn't recognize the name O'Reilly, but they were here with Barstow. "Understood, I will check in with sickbay to get a status update."

Lisa nodded and replied, "Thank you sir. I will get a crewman to take your belongings to quarters ten. Please follow Yeoman Greiger to sickbay."
