The Final Resistance - The Calvary Arrives: Act III

Posted on Saturday 15 September 2018 @ 20:22 by Commander Cale Llewellyn DSci & Commander Save'ena (Sav) Tillatix & Lieutenant Marbim Rejal & Lieutenant JG Saren Barel & 1st Lieutenant John Kayhill & Lieutenant Colonel Kachiko Bayushi

Mission: The New Collective
Location: USS Merlin
Timeline: After The Calvary Arrives: Act III
1308 words - 2.6 OF Standard Post Measure

As there was an almost an audible sigh of relief from all the crew on the bridge, one of the communications officer said, "We are being hailed by the Agamemnon. Do you want it on screen Commander?"

Kachiko looked over and nodded silently, before turning back to the viewscreen, waiting to see whom she would be greeted by.

The Agememnon's Commander agreed to provide technical assistance in getting the Merlin back underway. The discussion was brief if even somewhat terse.

Kayhill looked about the bridge. These people went through a heck of a lot to get to the colony and rescue them. He would have to buy the ship drinks. It was going to be a hefty tab.

Cale looked around the bridge and relaxed...for now. "Status report, all departments," he said not too sure he wanted to hear the report.

Sav's voice came from the helm, albeit sounding as though through communications instead of herself. "Helm using maneuvering thrusters and one tenth impulse to keep Merlin in stationary orbit around the planet. Fighters standing down from Hot Standby as the order to launch was never given. I have rerouted several Aux control systems to hot run as main systems taken down for repair. I will continue to help damage control teams as much as I am able, but the Merlin is a huge ship and I can only sense out so much. Sorry, Sir."

As Sav was forward of everyone, she did not worry about anybody inspecting her too closely as all were involved in salvaging the Merlin and getting the ship back into an operating condition. Sav's body was slumped over her panel, its few working panels showing activity as she continued with her tasks by being immersed into the Merlin. Her fur hid the shrapnel wounds across her front as her tail had protected her back and head. The tail had no wounds, fortunately. While the panel blowouts had almost left her indecent across her chest, the wounds and embedded debris were minor and her bleeding was a trickle. Thus, feeling no immediate need to get to sickbay, she remained immersed into the ship with her Cyberapathy and continued to bypass systems to help damage control teams with their repairs. The only thing embarrassing thing would be how to explain to anyone coming to check on her why she seemed asleep, her voice coming from the helm speaker panel, and yet her console was active as well as aux control systems on the ship being active without anyone actively working on them. Well, that was a bridge to cross if she was checked on. Right now, everyone was busy, very busy.

"Thank you, Sav. The report is welcomed. Now, why don't you relinquish the helm to someone else and report to Sickbay to have someone take a look at your wounds," Cale said softly so as not to make it look as though he was relieving her of duty. His empathy helped him pick up the pain she was obviously in. Though it was minimal, he didn't want to her exacerbate them.

A light laughter came from the helm and then Sav's voice was heard, even while her ears and tail remained in a relaxed position. "When there is someone available, I will go, Sir. Anyways, the wounds are light while computer connectivity is down so that automatic station keeping cannot be engaged. So, I will keep routing aux systems around damaged control areas until fixed or another Helmsman becomes available, if agreeable, sir."

Unlike Cale's empathy, Kachiko had a long history with the Mephetian and could read her thoughts, "At least you will allow a medic to apply an analgesic to numb your wounds and start extracting shrapnel while you remain on-station."

Then Sav 'heard' the Executive Officer in her head, '~You never told me that you could interface with computers like that, darling. It's why I am allowing you to stay at your post.~'

Sav's ears twitched lightly in shock and fear from what Kachiko has sent to her. She shoved that aside and answered out loud what Kachiko has said to her. "Yes XO, gladly, that would be wonderful when a Medic is available, Sir."

Telepathically, she responded, ~Umm, no, no I haven't. Only Melody knew, and David.. David Scarlet has an inkling. It is bad enough I attract attention as a rare, reverse colored Mephetian, to have it known I am also a Cyberapath could be.... disastrous. Heh, on a side note, now you know why I am such a good pilot with anything I fly. Just.. keep it to command crew for now, please?~

A soft laugh filtered through that telepathic connection, '~Sav, doll, you know me better than that. Secrets are what I do.~'

Kayhill stepped up and said to the XO, ""Pardon me Commander. Sickbay was a little busy, so I figured I would make my way up here. The colonist need to be seen before me. That said, I know repairs need to be one of the primary tasks, but I need to speak with you and the Captain about our recent encounter with these Borg."

Kachiko eyed the Marine, "I understand that the stump is cauterized, Lieutenant, but the loss of a limb is almost certainly going to result in your going into shock sooner or later. "

"Captain Barstow is in Sickbay and in no condition for talking," Kachiko sighed, before gesturing at her partially shredded body suit. "I'm not nearly as bad, but I need to be seen as well. If you're talking about how the drones seemed... 'angry', well, we noticed. They contacted us up here shortly before leaving."

"Let's get things together and then we'll talk," Kachiko offered. Then she looked over to Llewellyn, "You have the conn, Commander. I will be in Sickbay if you need me."

Over the com a voice calls out, "Hey, this is Chief Petty Officer Dunham. It looks like we beamed everyone up that's coming. If we aren't needing the transporters then I'm moving on to engineering to help in getting the Merlin back alive."

"Aye, Sir," Llewellyn replied.

Kayhill followed the XO to the turbolift and said, "Angry is just the tip of the iceberg."

He decided not to say more in front of the crew as they didn't need any demoralizing stories of these Borg on top of having to deal with all the damage."

Saren motioned for another staff to take his station. There was something he was concerned about and he needed help. He headed towards his labs.

Kachiko could be seen nodding once at the Marine before the hatch slid shut.

Sav's tail moved lightly to acknowledge that Kachiko left and Cale was now in charge once more. She called out, "Commander Llewellyn, repairs progressing for ship controls. Aux systems are now allowing station keeping paced off of the Agamemnon." Sav un-immersed herself from the Merlin and un-slouched from her control panel. She kept one hand on the panel for direct control interfacing, but she no longer needed to be within the Merlin's computer pathways to help with repairs. She glanced down at her chest, then snorted in light humor, adding under her breath, "Hopefully when the Meditech gets here, they'll bring me a new shirt." She was so glad she was wearing a bra, otherwise she would have been exposed.
