Mission Summary
The Conflict:
Mirror-Amelia Fox has escaped from a penal colony and steals the Missouri from Earth Spacedock and then several advanced weapons from Daystrom Institute. She has discovered that Melody Jones stole her unborn child and lied to her. She doesn't want to talk; she wants to erase Melody from existence.
The Plot:
1. The Silent Strike: Without a single hail or warning, the Missouri fires a full all out attack with the Merlin’s shields down. The ship is devastated; Major damage, hull breaches, loss of main power and warp power, and the bridge becomes a furnace of venting atmosphere. Melody is thrown from her chair, bleeding and dazed, as the "friendly" ship banks for a killing blow.
2. The Tactical Rebound: Amidst the smoke and screaming alarms, Melody realizes they can't survive another hit. Mirror Fox hails them to list her demands. Working with her bridge crew, they manage to use the prefix codes to strike back override signal directly to the Missouri’s computer.
3. The Shield Drop: Able to use this moment to escape on auxiliary power, the Merlin hides deep in the thick, ionized mists of the "Veil of Tears" nebula and attempts to make repairs.
4. The Blind Duel: Inside the nebula, sensors are useless. As are shields and long range communications and automatic weapons lock. They cannot call for help. Mirror-Fox, in a feral rage that her "prey" bit back, stalks the Merlin. She broadcasts a rhythmic, mechanical heartbeat over the comms—a haunting psychological attack. She does not know that the Merlin is able to devise a way to track these emissions by the "sonic" ripples it creates in the nebula's dense gas.
The Climax:
A fierce battle ensues with many blind shots, but ultimately, the Merlin manages to cripple the Missouri. But Mirror Fox has one more weapon up her sleeve. She had a Genesis device, and she’s going to use it.
The Resolution:
Can the Merlin restore warp power and escape the nebula before the Genesis device detonates?
The Aftermath:
The Genesis Device detonates, consuming the USS Missouri and the "feral" Mirror-Fox. The reaction reorganises the entire nebula into a vibrant, lush Class-M planet. The Merlin returns to scan the new world. It is beautiful, but Melody is haunted. The Andromeda is gone, and the woman who looked like her best friend died believing Melody was a monster. She names the planet "Canabula" and logs a final, weary report. She looks out at the new world born from a mother's broken heart and a captain's controversial decision.
