Mathias was playing his panpipes in his room when a memory popped up in his head. He remembered being in Engineering, suggesting that music might be played to remove the living stone covering the Merlin. Miraculously, the stone covering had disappeared. Mathias though thought it would have been an interesting experiment to have been tested out. He also remembered Rathburn mentioning loud music.

That made him even more curious, he just had to know what sort of music she liked. This will also lead into some insights about the engineer. Besides that, there was also the fact he had mentioned writing music from the sounds in engineering. Mathias smiled, he just had to go to engineering again, and maybe Lieutenant Rathburn would be there. And if not, he will contact her. He arrived at engineering stopping just inside the door moving out of the way for possible people to enter. The thrumming of the warp core he could hear its rhythm. He sought to catch someone's attention.

"Hello, is Lieutenant Rathburn here?"

The cute skinny little blond chick looked at the new arrival with a nod. "She's in the office." Alexa said as she pointed to the slightly open door that allowed country music to be heard streaming from it.

"Thank you."he said to the blond engineer, and headed towards Rathburn's office, he listened to the music trying to figure out what was being played.

Pushing the door open a bit more he stepped inside and leaned against the doorway. "What song is this?" Mathias asked, making himself heard above the music.

Though she jumped slightly Breana looked to the arrival into her office with a slightly surprised smile. "It's an Old country song called 'The Gambler' it was one of my dads favorite songs for some reason." Motioning to the chair across from her as she added. "Grab a drink if you wish and have a seat, what brings you hear today?"

"Ginger Lemon Tea slightly sweetened." Mathias stated, retrieving the glass and taking a seat where indicated. "I just wished to visit with you, well and to see if you would be bothered by me visiting engineering from to time. I had thought to write some music using some of the notes I have heard in the Engine room. " taking a drink from his glass.

"You are more then welcome to visit down here any time you wish." Rathburn replied with a smile as she settled in to relax and enjoy the chat with the fellow officer. "As for writing music, if you can figure out music to write using the sounds around here. Go for it." Lifting her glass she took a slow drink of the ice cold lemonade.

"Just as long as it doesn't interfere with your work here." Mathias stated. "As for your taste in music, I like it. What else do you like to listen to?" relaxing back in his chair. He was liking this visit with the Engineer so far.

"Country mostly, though occasionally I have the need for some rock. I tend to also like the band Godsmack," There was a few other types of music she liked, but those, she kept to herself. After all, she had to have some secrets... unless of course the cat opened his mouth again. "What kind of music do you like?" Breana asked as she enjoyed the moment's break from everything, other then music and company.

"It varies from classical to whatever sounds good to me. " Mathias chuckled. "there has been the occasion that I've heard Klingon Opera and liked it. Mostly though I like things I can dance to or has a good energy to it."

Everyone had their own taste in music and she couldn't fault the other officer for his. But, she had no clue how anyone could listen to those two types of music. One was nothing more to her than a means to get bored enough to sleep and the other.. well, really? glass breaking music?? But, she gave a little nod of her head and kept those thoughts to herself. "Dance music is always good, gets the blood flowing and energy building."

"I am open to hearing other types of music. I do like the country music you have playing right now. And what is Godsmack? I'm not familiar with the group. I like the classic rock and roll, like for instance, Elvis Presley. Old swivel hips he was called. Or there is Twisted Sister which is a high energy group of musicians." Mathias stated.

"My great great great granmother was all about that Elvise dude. I never saw what she saw in him. But well... she liked him and I guess she dared anyone to say something bad about that man." Breana just shook her head a little. "As for Godsmack, check them out. Moonbaby is good... of course so is Serenity. Then again... well... most all of their music is good. It leans more towards the alternative rock I think."

Mathias's interest was piqued, "If you don't mind that I change the music, I would like to listen to that." he said, "Computer please play, Godsmack Serenity." then he settled back to listen to the music as it flowed through the engineering office. When the music ended, Mathias looked at Rathburn, "That wasn't a bad piece of music there. I liked it!" he stated with a smile. "It has a hindi/arabic sort of flavor to it."

"I enjoy it, especially when I'm stressed out or just need to get my mind off of things. Over all though I'm a country girl at heart." Breana replied with a warm smile as the song finished and they continued their chat.

"A country girl, one who enjoys the simple things of life. " Mathias remarked, "That isn't a bad thing to be, and peaceful countryside with out a huge amount of worry. I remember those. I'm from a small town in Scotland, named Aberfoyle. Where are you from?"

"My family owns a ranch in Texas. One of the few, it seems, that are left anymore." Yes, if one listened closed they could hear the slight country twang in her voice still. "So yes.. I'm your typical country girl, into all that western stuff." That smile touched her eyes as she talked about home, yet there was just the slight hint of sadness there also.

Mathias noticed, " Are you missing home?" he queried softly. "I do know, I am missing my home." reaching out a hand towards her hand, then paused, he wasn't certain if she'd be comfortable with him doing so. Some people wouldn't be bothered by it, others would.

"I haven't been home since my dad passed away, so it's still kind of hard for me to think about what it's going to be like when I get the chance to go visit there again." She moved her hand and lightly patted his to let him know it was alright. Then, lifting it to curl fingers around her glass for a drink she took a moment to drink and settle her thoughts. "But.. anyways, all will be good. And you are more then welcome to do your music stuff down here when you want to."

"I am grateful for that, and when we do make planet fall, will you be going to the family ranch? And will someone be going with you? Not that I'm trying to pry, but sometimes its easier to go someplace with a friend." Mathias said.

"Yeah, Zoey and I will be going. We usually always head home for a get away... at least for a couple days." Bree said with a smile and nod. "I'll be ok, just looking forwards to checking on things and seeing my horses. So what are your plans when we hit Earth?"

"Glad you have someone going with you. I'll be going to see my grandparents and other relatives in Scotland. If I didn't do so, my grandparents would be sending out a hunting party to fetch me home." he laughed. "They tell me that they have connections and will be able to find me."

"Same here, though I think it's something my mom kind of worry's about now. So, all the more reason to make sure to drop by home for a bit. Have to keep the family happy." She chuckled softly before looking to her computer as a message popped up and she groaned softly. "I see I'm going to have to head out pretty soon..."

Mathias looked at the time and his eyes widened. "Time sure flies by when having a great conversation. Thank you for the conversation and the introduction of different music. " rising up from the chair. "Its been a pleasure Rathburn." he grinned. "I look forward to hopefully having more conversations or even just listen to music."

"Anytime, Unless I'm busy but if that's the case I'll let you know." Breana said with a smile. "You have a great rest of your day, I have a meeting to get to." She said as she started to rise, grabbing a PaDD at the same time... she headed out with him.
