Just a checkup - Part 2

Posted on Sunday 6 December 2020 @ 16:37 by Civilian Sansa Draxx-Jones & Lieutenant Nir’anyar

Mission: A Whale of a problem (We're going to need a bigger boat)
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD 8 1400
1791 words - 3.6 OF Standard Post Measure

ON:

Anya had been on duty in sickbay, thankfully a slow day so she had set about pouring over the results they had managed to glean into the fusion of body and soul that was now not only Sansa but an entity called Fay. It was mind boggling really, if not unheard of. Anya had first turned her attention to previous situations of a similar nature, funnily enough, most of them seemed to pop up under the records of the Starship Enterprise, one in particular seemed similar but it had been three malevolent entities that had taken refuge in the body's of the ship's Counsellor, Operations Officer and Transporter Chief. Sadly this particular encounter had been one that had needed drastic action so it had no real relevant data in this instance.

The Benzite leaned back in her chair, rubbing her temples as a headache had started to develop. So took the opportunity to stretch her legs by walking through to the Chief Medical Officers Office where she had been hidden away for hours. Possibly for the same reason, Anya was now on the move for by way of a break.
"Any joy?"

"Well, it's not killing her." Kyhl said with a sigh. "I think. Usually, these situations don't allow for in-depth scans. And considering Sansa’s medical history it's one random thing after another in these reports."

Mathias walked in, still feeling a bit bewildered not quite having come to terms with what happened between him and Fay/Sansa. For this moment he was going to concentrate on something else and not drive himself crazy in figuring out what to do.

"Greetings Doctors. "

"Mathias!" Kyhl stood up from her desk. "Glad you're here. We have a... mystery and your scientific expertise could help." Her antenna bowed forward as she spoke. "Doctor Nir'anyar and I have three scans and we're trying to find abnormalities."

"A mystery you say?" Mathias's eyes lit up. "I shall endeavour to help where I can. " giving a smile. "Three scans of Sansa and Fay. I had been wondering if they would exhibit some sort of anomalies with them being in the same body, much like something like a trill and the symbiote. Do you have a scan of Sansa before Fay came to dwell?" looking at both Anya and Kyhl. "Or is one of the scans one of Sansa before she became a host for Fay? And maybe we call Sansa to medical?"

"Baseline, if you can call it that." Kyhl sighed. "And then one with Sansa piloting and last one with Fay."

"The issue comes from Sansa's already complicated medical history. So it's hard to determine what effects there are from having Fay in her head, if any."

"Let's see if we can sort through everything we have before we accidentally cause alarm for Sansa or Fay." Kyhl finished.

"I have most of the data on the main medical display if that would be easier for everyone?"
Anya asked of the small gathering of the big brains on the ship.

"That would work for me." Mathias replied, as he moved to get a better view. He scanned over the details comparing the scans to the other ones. "So far they haven't been experiencing any side effects? How about brainwave patterns any differences when the two switch personas? And has there been any fluctuations of the neural fluids?"

"The data I have" Anya dug around in her lab coat searching for the correct padd. "shows it is seamless. Both have unique neurological patterns yet they seem to share the same consciousness. What one sees and feels the other sees and feels in equal measure... Unless you have spotted something I haven't?"
Anya looked over to her senior officer.

"Very astute observation doctor." Kyhl said as she continued looking over the data for some sort of clue. "The three scans are matching up rather well. I'd be inclined to say there is no harmful effects, but I don't want to jump to good news and miss something."

Kyhl’s antennae bent forward as she furrowed her brow. "Maybe another set of scans. Compare them to the current ones and see if there has been any change over time. They may not want all this poking and prodding, but I'd rather be safe than sorry."

"Then it would probably be a good idea to have Sansa and Fay come in for another consult." Mathias stated, "Sound good, doctors?"

Kyhl tapped her comm badge. "Doctor Ch'rehron to Sansa Fay. Could you please come to Medical when you're able?"

Fay looked up surprised, letting Sansa guide her hand she tapped her comm badge "We're on our way."

A few minutes later, she entered sickbay. "Good afternoon Doctor, Anya.." She blushed slightly "Hello Mathias."

"Hello Fay and Sansa." Mathias greeting them with a smile.

"Good afternoon Sansa, Fay". Anya greeted both in turn as both although one were also two separate entities living within a single host.

"Sansa, Fay. Welcome." Kyhl said as she motioned to the biobed. "Please have a seat. I'm sure you know the routine."

Fay let Sansa surface and her eyes lost the purple sparkle. "Of course Doc." Sansa replied and perched on the edge of the biobed.

"We're still trying to decipher your medical scans and would like to be thorough." Kyhl said warmly as she ran the sensor above Sansa Fay. "How have you been fitting in considering your unique situations?"

Sansa took a deep breath "Everything still feel ok Doc, I've had no new aches or pains and me and Fay are getting along really well. She's even making new... friends among the crew." she stole a quick glance at Mathias before looking back to the Doctor.

"Doctor Nir'anyar, please display the information from my scans in real time so McPhee and yourself can begin the review."

Anya moved back over to the main display and called the data up, every aspect of the scan shown in different areas of the display. So far nothing of note sprang to the Benzites notice just the same shared consciousness. This was why she hoped Lieutenant McPhee might bring new insight.

Mathias could feel his cheeks warm up, with Sansa's comment, then went to look at the display Anya had put up.

Mathias crossed his left arm across his chest, supporting his right elbow and his index finger crooked and place on his lips while he contemplated the scans. His perceptions saw both patterns one to his eyes was slightly different than the other. Distinguishing between Fay and Sansa. A few long moments passed then Mathias spoke, "I can see some differences between one with the other when they interchange who is the one currently in the conscious level. I can also detect a little bit of cohesion with them that is developing. When we get to Earth, I am suggesting that we find a new host for Fay, this way neither one of them will lose their sense of individuality."

Fay frowned and brushed a strand of hair from her face in a very Sansa like gesture. "Cohesion? What do you mean?"

"Meaning at times, if there are two personalities in one body, one ends up taking over the other or there ends up being a blend of personalities where there is no differentiation between the two personalities or in this case, two minds sharing the same body. From what I can tell your race has spent years in honing your mental skills." looking at Fay.

He continued on "Sansa has a strong will power from what I am surmising, which is why you two haven't had a war within the mindscape of her mind. In essence, the two of you are... a mental match as well. Perhaps that explains why you're being here with Sansa being a host is successful. But with your exposure to new and different experiences, it is changing you a bit." he stops and looks at the others. "That's just my scientific hypothesis in this matter."

Fay contemplated his words. "This is the first time now of our species consciousness has inhabited a human body and yes I must admit, the physical feelings generated by Sansa's body are very different from my own. Some are a lot more... intense."
Another look at Mathias before she continued. "Sansa can assert herself at any time she wishes to do so. Because she is so thoughtful, she normally asks me first and I preverbally step aside. I'm only controlling her body because Sansa is willing and allowing me to do so. I know Owan was concerned if it was tried with someone who was not willing, who would resist, it would probably kill both parties involved due to the struggle for control being waged inside such a frail body."

At that comment, Sansa briefly popped up to say with good humour "Who are you calling frail?" before letting Fay resume.

Mathias gave a light laugh at Sansa's comment.

Kyhl’s eyes widened as she scanned and quickly shut the tricorder. "We're good here Fay and Sansa. You're free to go for now. We'll let you know if there is anything else we need."

Fay smiled. "Thank you Doctor. Goodbye Anya, Mathias" and she slipped down off the biobed and headed out of sickbay.

Kyhl waited until Sansa and Fay had left medical before she fully brought her readings up on the screen. "I think you're correct in a way Mathias. These last readings show that one of the personalities is getting weaker."

Mathias looked concerned, at the news.

"Fay isn't as strong as she was just yesterday. It won't be immediate, but it appears her time is going to be limited. Without more information about her species or even how this body hopping works I'm not even sure a new host would be a viable solution." Kyhl frowned as her antennae leaned forward.

"I will have to ask Fay about that. And one thing I am wondering. If they can manipulate matter, why haven't they worked on an avatar or body for themselves?" Mathias asked.

"Would Fay be getting weaker as her own physical body starts to deteriorate? After all her actual body won't be getting nutrition, exercise... Perhaps this is less a blending of two beings, but one being becoming almost like a transceiver that is able to broadcast an incoming signal from another source... That could explain the lack of merging neural patterns... Just a hypothesis".
Anya was grasping but it was the only thing that seemed likely at this point.

"That could be a possible thing that is happening as well." Mathias answered, "Either way, when we get to Starfleet, hopefully, they will have a solution to keep Fay alive."
