BIRD- Any smaller craft that flies.
CCP- Casualty collection point. Area closest to immediate action where casualties are triaged.
CP- Check Point. Usually numbered.
CSH- Combat Support Hospital.
CSMO – Close Station, March Order or Collect your **** and Move Out. Both are intend to get service members to close their stations and move out due to a mission ending.
COP – Combat Outpost. A small base which can contain between 40 and 150 marines and is usually placed in hostile locations.
DETAIL- A group of service members sent to do a job.
DOWN RANGE- Derived from the term to check on targets on shooting ranges. Refers to anyplace where there’s shooting.
ENDEX – End Exercise
FOB – Forward Operating Base. A base that is larger than a COP, but smaller than a superbase. They tend to be located in less dangerous areas than a COP, and offer luxuries such as varied meals and hot water.
FTA – Failure to Adapt. A reason why recruits may fail out of basic.
IDF – Indirect Fire. Any munitions delivered on a high-arcing trajectory such as mortars, photon torpetods, and artillery. Usually used to describe enemy fire.
NFG –NonFunctioning Gear. Label used on broken equipment.
OORAH – Spirited cry used since the mid-20th century, comparable to Hooah used in the Army or Hooyah by Navy SEALs; most commonly used to respond to a verbal greeting or as an expression of enthusiasm. The origin is often disputed.
OUTSTANDING - A superlative used by members of SFMC to describe most things.
RTB – Return to Base.
