She had flown through Basic Training, the Cadet easily passing through every challenge, PT hell and shouting Drill Instructor placed before her. Now she stood in a line, behind and in front of her classmates, decked out in uniforms instead of the usual cap & gown.

The guy in front of her, an Engineering specialist whom had been eying her throughout the entire time she had attended the Academy. She could smell the shift in his pheromones every time she drew near. She shook her head silently with a hidden grin, the young man was attracted to the small quarter-Orion Marine Cadet.

"Ensign Jordan Simpson," called out the man on the stage. The young man in front of her stepped forward, stepping up onto the stage.

Seconds later, "Second Lieutenant Sun Cai."

Cai stiffened to attention, quickly scaling the three steps up onto the white wooden stage set up on the Presidio in San Francisco. The Academy Commandant handed her her paper diploma, before shaking her and hand. As soon as Simpson finished having his single brass pip pinned to his collar by the Dean of Students, Cai stepped up. Surprising the shorter green woman, the Dean stepped away as an extremely short figure wearing a really old uniform, USMC dress blues, stepped forward from the rear of the stage area. Stiffening to attention, Cai waited as Lieutenant Colonel Bayushi Kachiko pinned the 'butter bar' to her stiff uniform collar. "Congratulations, Lieutenant," the tiny white-haired Officer said as Cai shook her hand before stiffening back to attention, proferring a swift salute.

-TWENTY MINUTES LASER-GUIDED

Kachiko grinned as newly minted Second Lieutenant Cai Sun stepped out of the Dean's office, "Cai-chan, where are they sending you?"

After Cai embraced her half-Orion fighter pilot instructor mother, she looked up, "Sorry, Colonel. I don't know. I have orders to report to the Grissom to head to my assignment. They won't tell me where I'm going to on the Grissom."

Kachiko smiled, "Seems that you're going with me, niece. Your dispersing Officer already spoke to me. Seems that you're going to spend more time learning to be a good Infantry Officer with me."

Her mother, Commander Karsel'lyn Lylyl-Llytherraias hugged the girl again, "I'm heading back out with your Muqin, darling."

"Are you flying again, kaa-chan?" Cai asked.

"No, Cai-chan. I am your Muqin's new yeoman, since I can't fly but want to be out with her," Lyn smiled. "Unfortunately, the Shanghai can't get here before next week. Your Muqin sends her love."

"I love you, kaa-chan," Cai said as she gave her half-Orion mother a last, tight hug. Afterwards, the black uniformed and armed Lieutenant Colonel stepped up and embraced the Commander, "Love you, Lynnie. Be safe out there, darling."

"You know that I won't, Chiko," Kachiko's green half-sister happily rested her cheek atop the little Marine's head.

Stepping back, Kachiko drew Cai back with her before touching the side of her jaw, "Bayushi to Eritrea. Two to beam aboard."
