===== Deck 5 - CFO Office =====
The workshift was winding down. Sav had been at the helm to bring them to the Lazarus Star, but then called for a junior officer to come man the helm. From the Helm, Sav had returned to her CFO office to work on duty shifts, training certs, and who was needing a scheduled physical.
Sav churred gently while working, thinking about holding position off of the star under observation. Station keeping was a great way to get younger helm officers into the 'hot seat' of the bridge environment to start getting used to how it worked and the main personnel there without having to worry about other tasks involved in moving a ship from point A to point B along a jagged line.
Wyn walked in carrying a teapot and two cups. "Still hard at work? You look tired. Here, have some tea."
Sav smiled up to Wyn as she accepted the cup of tea. She replied, "Thank you, Wyn. You sure have my moods down. I am glad you decided to stay my assistant and not become the new CAG's when they arrive." She glanced at the certs, one obvious one in front of her, bearing her name.
Wyn smiled "Come on, you know you'd be lost without me" she chuckled. "Who else is going to help you with all this paperwork, even if it is for yourself."
Sav snorted out in humor, "Yeah, it's mine. Now that I am no longer CAG and am CFO, I am behind in my Certs as well." She looked at the time, then back to Wyn, "Say, there is time to get the DCM Cert Signed off for Aux Life Support. Want to come with me and then we go to dinner from there? I can see if Melody and Brenda want to join us afterwards."
"It's all work and food with you isn't it?" Wyn shook her head and patted her stomach "Oh alright, but I am trying to watch my figure you know..."
===== Deck 25, Auxiliary Life Support, Secondary Feed Console =====
The access panels were off of the ALSSF Console. There was a pair of shapely legs attached to feminine hips that then disappeared into the console. The pants were of command structure, but that was not the most glaring, obvious thing. Between those legs and flowing down across the floor was a large, wide tail, silver/white in color. At the wide tip, moving up and down on the floor, showed two darker stripes flowing out to the end on the 'top side' of the tail.
Sav's voice called out to Wyn, "I've traced the failing culprit to a bypass coupler in behind the air monitoring chamber. It looks like it was left in after the last time it was damaged. As it is out of sight, and was probably good at the time, no one noticed." Sav churred out in an erotic lilting voice, saying, "Good thing I'm a troubleshooter extraordinaire, eh?"
"And so modest too." Wyn as scanning with a tricorder. "Oh boy, it looks like it's tripped a safety relay. That's going to light up like a Christmas tree on diagnostics."
===== Deck 26, Main Engineering, Chief Engineers Office =====
Sardon had just finished instructing his new crew to run some diagnostics on the ship. Make a new baseline as he had only recently arrived as the new Chief of Engineering and it seemed a level one diagnostic on all the ships systems hadn't been run. It might take a week but the ship needed it. Sardon had ordered the essential ship functions checked first, then the backups, and further the less important systems.
It was less then 24 hours since the team had started the diagnostics when a junior engineering officer entered his office. A young human for the life of him Sardon couldn't remember his name. "Sir, it seems we've already found our first major hiccup it seem auxiliary life support is down on deck 25. Must be a short or something."
Sardon thought to himself for a second before answering, "I'll go check it out myself. I'll call when I'm down there if I need anything Ensign. Keep running your diagnostics and reroute power flow bypass the system the last thing you need is a fried Chief."
"Yes Sir," said the Ensign.
I really have to learn everyone's names, thought Sardon to himself.
As he arrived on Deck 25 he moved straight to the damaged system only to find someone was already working on it again. Sardon cleared his throat at the legs hanging out of the access panel.
Wyn walked back in carrying a new coupler. "Hey I've got a replacement unit here and......... Oh" She stopped and came to attention when she saw the Chief Engineer, her whisker twitched slightly "Can I help you Sir? Save'ena, we have company....."
"I was about to ask the same of you," replied Sardon, "I know there are no engineers down here cause I assigned myself to the repairs and yet I see two crew members taking it upon themselves to fix something that could determine the very survival of the ship were the primaries to fail." Sardon smiled a bit he had seen this on other ships crew from other departments trying to "be helpful". There is a whole department responsible for keeping the ship running yet there was always someone taking upon themselves to do repairs. In most cases someone from the engineering team had to redo the work. "What do you think you two are doing?"
From under the console, the Mephetian CFO listened to the person speaking to Wyn, and to her. It sounded male, but was not Ensign Brex's voice, so it was either the Chief Engineer or the Senior Chief Petty Officer for Engineering. As for running a diagnostic, anyone could do that. However, to find a DCM (Damage Control Module) bypass that is going out as those modules always report all is green to get a starship to limp home, was going to be tricky to explain. Mainly she with her cyberapathy could find it, or an experienced DCO (Damage Control Officer) with an intuitive sense for minor weird command codes would find it. Well, she was a trained DCO for Aux Consoles, so she would go with the second one. She quickly made a log of the send commands and answers, including those that a standard three way coupler would never respond with.
With logs at the ready, Sav called out from under the console, "Greetings, I am Commander Save'ena Tillatix, CFO and Bridge Command Specialist, with training in Damage Control Auxiliary control systems, as in this ALSSF console. I am behind in my certs and came down to run a routine diagnostic and found a slight anomaly in the readings. in troubleshooting, I found a Damage Control Temporary bypass still in place behind the air monitoring chamber ready to go out. Hence, I am inside getting it ready to be taken out while Crewman Rhoderick brought me a proper three way coupler." An erotic churr came from under the console as Sav asked, "And, as I cannot see you, may I ask who is inquiring?"
"It's the Chief of Engineering Lieutenant Sardon, and Commander the fact that you even know what a DCM is impressive. I came down myself being that I figured it would be easier to handle it myself rather than explain it to the team. I come from a Damage Control background ma'am. Now if you don't mind I can take over from here."
A questioning 'churrr' came from under the console at the last statement by Sardon. At the same time, the coupler moved out of Wyn's hand and whisked under the console through the opening. Sav now replied, "Glad to meet you, Engineering Chief Lieutenant Sardon. On you taking over... wouldn't that invalidate my repair and prevent getting my certificate signed off by you? I am technically part of your crew when emergency repairs are underway when the ship is not able to move. Besides, I'm almost done." There was a 'snickt' sound of the proper coupler being connected into the system. The fault telltales went away as the panel showed restart and diagnostics set 3 now running.
Sardon raised an eyebrow to seeing the coupler moving of its own accord and realizing one of the two here, either the Boda who had been holding the part, or the alien female sticking out from the control panel. He looked at the telltales on the panel and they showed clear and running the diagnotics properly. He replied to her, "I will still have to check over the repair to verify its good. So, when ready.."
Sav now scooted out from inside the console. She stood up to properly greet Sardon. The tail, being wide and reverse color, did not lie as to how her looks would be. Facing Sardon was a furred Sentient, short triangular muzzle, larger cranium showing intelligence, whiskers quivering on that muzzle, with two expressive ears cupped towards him and her short, silky facial fur being grey with white around the eyes, a reverse color from the typical Terran 'skunk' this female, yes, definitely female, resembled. She grinned, her rather sharp, pointy front teeth showing, as she stuck out a hand, "Bridge Command Specialist and CFCO Lieutenant Commander Tillatix, at your service, Lieutenant Sardon." The temporary damage control coupler was in her other hand.
Sardon smiled to the female officer while reaching out to take the DCM coupler from her hand. As he did, he said, "I'll take that, and handshakes not necessary as we both are on duty." He examined the Module, then put it down onto the control panel. He reached out his hand and asked, "Certs, please?"
The Padd with Sav's training, certs, and requirements for those certs came out of her Sashe and into her right hand. She now directly handed it to him, smiling, and replied, "There you go."
Standing to the side, Wyn was a little miffed that the Engineering Officer had not shaken hands with Sav, but also knew that he was right, they were on duty and thought Sav was the higher ranking officer, as a DCO, she was technically under him as well. So, she said nothing and waited.
Sardon checked over the training and certs. It looked like the CFCO was on the up and up, she was specifically there for DCO cert sign-off and was fully capable of the repairs she had performed. He put the Padd on the console and now knelt down, then turned and scooted into the console to directly check the work. Everything was secure, and there was nary even a fingerprint or smudge left behind. 'Telekinetics definitely can have an advantage when doing meticulous repairs' was the thought that went through his mind. He moved out from inside the console, stood up, and checked the diags. They beeped their passing and acceptance of the new module.
Sav stood aside and just waited, at ease. She knew her repairs were good and waited for the checks to be done. She smiled at Wyn, fully at ease.
Wyn smiled back to her even as her stomach growled lightly. She shrugged gently at her body letting Sav and her know it was definitely time for dinner after the sign off.
Sardon took the Padd from the console and put on his digital signature. He handed it back to her, "There you go, Commander. You are now caught up on your DCO certs. Anything else?"
Sav received the Padd, then looked at the open access and asked, "So, buttoning her up?"
Sardon smiled and said, "I will finish that."
Sav curtsied and replied, "All yours. Have a great day, Lieutenant. My assistant and I are off to get some chow. If you get a chance, come look us up in the Senior Officers Mess."
Sardon nodded, then knelt down to put the access plate onto the console. After all, this was an engineering matter and even though the CFCO was cross trained, she wasn't engineering.
Sav churred gently and headed for the mess with Wyn in tow.
After they were out of earshot, Wyn said, "Rather rude."
Sav replied with a churr, "Na'ah, engineering. The ship is what keeps us protected and alive in space, so many engineers are taciturn and rather want to keep other department hands off... until an emergency situation where all hands are appreciated. Now common, my stomach is letting me know I'm hungry, which is a good thing."
