Rigelian

Rigelians are a humanoid species that call Rigel V home.

Physiology

Rigelians are believed to have four or five genders, according to information obtained by Doctor Phlox. Physically, they have wrinkled, ashen-colored skin and short cranial ridges over the eyes and one down the center of the forehead. Two distinctive diamond-shaped markings run the length of their face. Hair color is usually light.

They are known to share a similar internal physiology with Vulcans and Romulans. These similarities, notably to Vulcans, include similar blood chemistries. Rigelians also shared a similar neurology to Vulcans and Romulans, as they too are susceptible to the neurological disease known as Tuvan Syndrome.

History & Politics

By the 22nd Century, Rigelians were well known in both the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. They maintain a large merchant fleet and trade with numerous worlds around the galaxy. This commerce is regulated by the Rigelian Trade Commission.

In 2155, a Rigelian delegation was invited to discuss their possible admission to the Coalition of Planets. Currently, they are members of the United Federation of Planets.

Achievements

Rigelians are renown for their advancements in the field of medicine, and their medical universities are never lacking for students. Some of their more notable accomplishments are in gene therapy, xeno-hemotology, and finding a cure for the dreaded Rigelian fever.
