It Never Rains...

347 words; about a 2 minute read
I entered my quarters after a long grueling day at the 'office' as I called it. I have been experiencing some pain after my jaunt into the Jefferies tube network. I couldn't explain why I was having them but I knew they were growing in intensity and frequency. I decided not to alert Sickbay as I didn't want to alarm Doctor Miller; she's got enough to worry about without my adding my issue to her burden.
"Computer, begin log."
"Begin when ready," those soft tones reminded him of Melody.
"Today went rather well. I participated in a meeting between helm, strategic ops, tactical and the MCO about our mission to the Proving Ground. There was something for each of us in there. It went well and we all got prepped for tomorrow activities. Which would be very dangerous as I understand them.
"This whole 'V Launch' seems like an unnecessary show-off tactic, if you ask me. I'm not sure how the captain can put that many crewmen at risk. But then again I am merely a low level functionary and so low on the totem pole that I hardly seem to matter to anyone outside my department.
"I don't even know why there is a science department on a warship? Captain Barstow rarely even acknowledges my presence. But as my best friend from the Academy would say 'Never let the things that you can't control take over; but focus on the things you have direct control over and make them yours.' You wouldn't believe that would come from an Operations major. But Tyron was as good a counselor as I ever had at that point in my life.
"The last I heard from him was he got posted to the Galaxy as their Operations Manager. I even sent him a congratulations note. We have since grown apart and it hurts like hell. To have the one person in the universe just drop you with no warning,"
"Computer end log and file." The computer chirped its responses. And then everything went black.
