"Captains log, 239308.05. Our shakedown cruise in the proving grounds went off without nearly a hitch. The ship and crew have performed above all standards. Things were going so smooth in fact I knew there was going to be a shoe dropping somewhere," Barstow started and sat back in the chair behind his desk in the Ready Room and turned to look out the window at the asteroid, "during their excercise the Marines have found an ancient ship they think is called the Tri'jema. According to video and their statments the ship exhibits both Vulcan and Romulan characteristics and we cannot, at this point, tell which it is.
"Lieutenant Tan called the Vulcan and Romulan governments but the Vulcan deny knowledge of the ship, though they forbid us to enter it. A comm to Dewwa, the new seat of the Romulan government, was intercepted by what i believe was one of the factions vying for control. They gave us the same response as the Vulcans, however, and I see the Romulan government doing the same. What we did not tell either government is that the Marines have found four survivors," Apollo said then paused and shook his head, "over eighteen hundred years in stasis....I can't imagine that, nor the shock they are about to receive when they wake.
"I've ordered an away team consisting of Commander Llewellyn and Lieutenants Miller and Zetla and Ensign Bred with their respective medical, science and engineering teams to goto the surface and get Intel as well as check on these four survivors. I have cautioned them not to wake anyone until we know more, this situation brings Kahn to mind. Security units will be joining the Marines and rotate shifts to keep the site secure, I don't want anyone getting pushed to exhaustion due to the extended EVA.
"The air group is out on patrol as well, setting up a perimeter far enough out to hopfully keep everyone at bay until we know what's going on. Lieutenant Tan has been assigned to strat ops for the time being, he jumped into coordinating the fighters and I did not want to break his rythme. With his background already with tactical I think he should be fine. I've also kept Lieutenant Jones back, even with regs saying the second officer should be on most away teams. With thing starting to heat up and bound to reach a boil sooner than later I wanted to have her here to coordinate with Tan if need be. I may just be being overly cautious, but, having a back up for strat ops if things go south feels like a must here.
"I should get back to the Bridge...note to Doctor Miller, I'd like to know how Lieutenant Ikiri is doing and once fighters are done there will be a new TAD counselor coming to see her, Major Johnson. Computer, end log," the CO said then stood up and paused, taking one last Kong look out the window at the asteroid below before turning and walking back out to the Bridge.
