We have been at the location conducting tests on the Star for some time. This is causing no hardship to the Merlin or the crew in general, we are more than equipped to carry out the task ahead and are now waiting on what we will do next, it is possible that we shall need to go to the surface of the nearby planet in due course ... The 'visions' I was subject to whilst aboard the derelict Merlin, and once more while on our own Bridge have not reoccurred ... Thankfully ...
Mackenzie is missing her lessons, but realises that they have been put on hold indefinitely due to our current mission and the need for the Executive Officer to devote all her time to her duties. Yesterday we made use of one of the holo-decks to take the girls to one of the larger fun fairs on Earth, it took Kenzie's mind off flying, thankfully, given my promise, and subsequent nervousness, despite there being safety protocols in place, to accompany her in one of those twentieth century aircraft so she can show me what she had learned, she has high hopes of flying something called an Airliner, a passenger carrying aircraft that could traverse almost a third of the globe before needing to refuel, but first she wants to master something called a bi-plane. I had somewhat foolishly, asked about the fuel and she informed me that it was a highly flammable petroleum substance powering jet turbines, that was fed into the engines and burned. This 'fuel' was stored in tanks, both in the body of the aeroplane, and in the wings ! .... Admittedly, after seeing countless images of planes, I'm quite looking forward to it, despite my nervousness, it will be a welcome distraction from my duties.
Lana told me over dinner that she had been asked to meet with Commander Jones, purely unofficial, the meeting was basically to 'catch up' as the Exec' had put it and to ask how the school was fairing. Lana voiced some of her idea's moving forward and the Exec has agreed to allow her use of one of the holo-decks throughout term-time so she can arrange field trips for the pupils. it was also suggested that she could make use of some of the experts aboard, who could possibly appear as guest speakers in class to talk about a variety of subjects to help the children. Lana thinks this is an excellent idea and has already spoken to her two Deputies on the subject.
Before the Captain left the ship he broached the subject of his Daughter, Sierra, staying with us if he is to be away from the ship longer than initially expected. she is currently staying with yeoman Venks, the Captain's Aide, but a long-term stay is inconvenient given her other duties while the Captain is absent. I have sent a sub-space communication asking the Captain what he wants to do regarding his Daughter, who we have both assured him is most welcome to stay with us until his return ...
