ON :
That evening, after Mackenzie had come home from her first session with Lieutenant Commander Jones, the Family had a meeting, they did this quite often and made an evening of it. They would have snacks, drinks, non-alcohol for the girls obviously, and then maybe watch a holo-film before Kenzie and Mia went to bed leaving the adults to their wine :
It was now nineteen hundred and they were sat waiting for their eldest Daughter, Mackenzie, to join them.
"So why the meeting Daddy, I thought we only had them when you were telling us off." Four year old Mia asked, continuing before he could reply, "I bet Kenzie made a massive big mistake and the ship is damaged."
"Stop it Mia." Lana said, feigning annoyance, to which Mia's reply was to pull her tongue out and blow a raspberry. Kenzie came out of her bedroom and stood in front of them:
"Can I go first please ?" she asked. David and Lana shrugged, telling her to go ahead, "OK, well, as you know, I was with Melody, erm, Commander Jones today, and we have started a erm, training program ...."
"Erm isn't a word sweetheart." Lana said quietly.
"Sorry Mummy .... OK, well, I am going to continue with my training, at least for as long as Melody wants to. She said it was so it would help me if I wanted to go into Starfleet, but I don't know, i'm six after all, so next week I could want to be a teacher, or a nurse, or play the Vulcan lute in an orchestra, who knows, I'm a kid and likely to change my mind." she shrugged, allowing her statement to sink in. All three of her Family sat silently waiting for her to continue when the door chime sounded, "I'll get it." Kenzie said, walking over to the door and telling it to open. Lysia was stood outside.
Mackenzie stepped into the corridor, hugging the woman she looked on as an unofficial big sister, she had known Lysia T'Seng all her life after all. She took the Assistant Operations Officers' hand and pulled her into their quarters, asking her to take a seat next to her mother and Mia. Lana raised her eyebrows but didn't comment.
"I know our family meetings are just for us, but I wanted Lysia to be here so she could hear the news."
"News ? ..... You're not going off to get married are you !" she said, pretending shock, everyone laughed at that.
"No ...." Kenzie said, "Besides, I have much better things to do than hang around with 'boys' let alone get married." she said seriously. Lana David and Lysia fought back their laughter,Mia unfortunately was less subtle:
"Jamie Matterson likes her, he nearly kissed her the other day at school." she said, trying to make her revelation a secret everyone could hear, Kenzie denied this obviously, glaring at her younger sister.
"If I may continue ?" she said, hands on her hips, "Right ...... OK, well the reason I asked Lysia to come over was I want to ask if she will help with some of the harder stuff I have to learn. I'm not saying I can't do it, and Mummy, Daddy, I hope you are not too upset I asked Lys and not you, but you're a teacher, and you are busy." she said to each in turn. Both parents agreed with her assessment and grinned at their closest friend for years.
"I'm more than happy to help you sweetheart, I said so when we spoke earlier."
"You spoke earlier ?" David asked, somewhat surprised, but getting used to the fact that his six year old was wise and more than capable beyond her years.
"Yes, Kenzie Comm'ed me on her way back from the Exec's Office." Lysia confirmed, "She was rather pleased I have to say, but did swear me to secrecy."
"You'll be wanting your own quarters soon." Lana said, grinning ....
The meeting went on for another hour then Mackenzie called a close, again, this was something they did to signify it was time for popcorn :
"So what film are we watching ?" Lysia asked grabbing a couple of sandwiches and a glass.
"Its called 'The Lion King' ..." Kenzie informed her as they sat together, Mia snuggled up on Lysia's other side as David activated the large view-screen on the wall, while not standard, he'd had it fitted for this very reason, "It's about a lion who can't stay with his family, but he ... Nope, lets watch the film, c'mon Daddy, turn the lights out ..........
