The double-hatch into the Sickbay opened, the spritely Lieutenant Colonel and entourage entering the large compartment.
The blacked out uniformed Lieutenant Colonel looked up at the first person she encountered, "Good afternoon. Is Doctor Miller in?"
Kevin, the receptionist looked up from his desk. "I can find out for you. What's your name please?"
"I have three here to see the physician for incoming screenings," the Lieutenant Colonel replied. "I'm Lieutenant Colonel Bayushi, with me are my daughter and niece."
Caroline headed into the reception area to see a short white haired female. "Dr Miller," she held her hand out to shake. "How can I help you?"
"Intake screenings," Kachiko smiled. The blonde doctor was as pleasant as the Executive Officer had said and as lovely as she appeared in her dossier photo. A most welcome change to the surly doctors she had been stuck with on Earth while awaiting her next assignment. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Doctor. I'm Lieutenant Colonel Bayushi, your new resident Jarhead."
She motioned to the two girls, "The smaller one is Reiko, my daughter. Along for the ride but needing to see you no less is my niece, Cadet Cai Sun."
"Commander Jones spoke highly of you, Doctor. While I can see my enjoying seeing you, I don't anticipate wanting to see you on a professional setting anytime soon, though I have a considerable amount of things that we need to discuss in private, regarding my health. Things that are not in my file."
"But first, we should probably reintroduce the Cadet to a pheromone suppressant," to which the light green Cadet chimed in. "The only one that works for me is Demepril Retoridin, ma'am." Unfortunately, it only blunted the power of her pheromones, which were unique given her multispecies parentage.
"Okay," Caroline said. "Well Kevin can make you an appointment at a suitable time to discuss your health Lieutenant Colonel, and let me just have a look at your file Cadet Sun." Caroline pulled up the other ladies records and saw the previous doses of Demepril Retoridin that had been administered.
"Tera," she called one of the nurses. "Can you get me a hypo spray with Demepril R?"
She turned back to the Cadet, "We will schedule monthly shots like on your previous postings. I'll get the schedule to you, and set the computer up with reminders."
"I haven't any prior postings except for the Academy, ma'am," Cai said quietly. "It's just to keep my pheromones blunted, so I don't have the entire ship fighting over me." Unfortunately, the sixteen year old Cadet had seen considerable trouble after she reached puberty. As a result of her half-bred nature, her pheromones worked rather differently than the usual Orion. For one, she likewise attracted women and not just men, though the effect on women was much less than the men. It was all a nightmare for the young Cadet and the medication was worth it even if it did make her sluggish for a few days after each dose.
"So while we are waiting, let me take the time to say welcome aboard to all of you. How are you finding the ship so far?" Caroline asked with a smile.
"We haven't found much just yet, Doctor," Kachiko shrugged. "We came straight here from the shuttle bay. Though this is hardly my first foray aboard an Excalibur."
"I'm looking forward to serving with you, Caroline," now the Marine's smile returned. "Oh, I had an odd and unwelcome sensation as we approached the Merlin. Might there have been a temporal event near the ship recently or near here?"
Caroline looked shocked at the sudden question, especially as the command team was trying to keep things as quiet as possible on the temporal details of this mission so not to cause any panic. "I am afraid our current mission is classified."
"Well, most everything involving temporal events is highly classified. Reiko-chan, could you go sit down in the waiting room while Cai and I speak with Doctor Miller?" Kachiko waited for the gift to shrug and walk back to the screened in area near the hatch, sitting on one of the chairs. With that, the Marine continued, "Both the Cadet and I have past experience and exposure to chronitons. Cai here is a refugee from a future that no longer exists, after being sucked in by a small temporal vortex on Earth."
"Me, I was originally cloned from a particular individual I can't speak about by a shadowy organization that I likewise cannot speak about. The clones were needed post haste, so we were aged with chronitons. I have encountered temporal events on a past assignment and the exposure reverted some of the growth I experienced. Which is how I look like a teenager when I am forty Earth years of age."
"I'm not sure that I'm prepared to regress back to a child, physically," she didn't look too enthusiastic about that possibility.
Caroline was not overly comfortable on being what felt like railroaded by the new corporal into speaking privately with both her and the cadet. Also the lady had just deemed to take a seat in a separate part of her sickbay without being offered that curtesy. However she had been blindsided by it so had shrugged her allowance. This was not however behaviour she wanted encouraging. She wondered how the lady in front of her would feel if she had invited herself to just sit down in her domain.
The truth was it would be up to Melody to brief the lady not her, again limiting what she felt comfortable that she could say to her at this point even though the marine seemed to know something was up and it was temporal in nature ..... however the talk of chronitons intrigued her meaning a more detailed look at her file and biology was required on her part. Unfortunately now was not the time, there were bodies sat in her morgue to work out what had occurred in a bid for them to try avoid it.
"Hopefully it will not come to that. Look for the moment my orders are that information on what's currently going on, only be shared with the command team. Commander Jones will I am sure schedule a time to brief you and more than likely quickly. I may or may not be in that meeting. My posting as 2XO is relatively new so I am still finding my feet at present. Foremost I am a doctor," she stated trying to appease the other women but press on what the current situation was.
"I am sure however that Commander Jones will appreciate any insight into temporal issues that you can help with," she added allowing her to know she was in the right ball park, despite her being unable to illuminate her further at this point.
"I'm just concerned that the chronitons will affect me like they did in the past. To say that the change in physical age was a significant medical event would be understating things. I guess that means that the Commander is my next destination," Kachiko frowned. The woman had effectively confirmed Kachiko's suspicions with her non-answer answer.
"I guess that beyond the Cadet receiving her inoculation, we just need to set appointments," Kachiko shrugged. She would let the woman get it over with and get on with her duties.
Caroline took the hypospary from her nurse and inoculated the Cadet. "I probably don't need to warn you one of the side effects of this is you will feel somewhat slow and tired for a few days. If it lasts longer than it has any other time you have had the shot come back to see me again."
With that said, "When you are finished here, Cadet, report to Staff Sergeant Hernandez in the Marine Armory." Before she turned to gather Reiko and head to Jarhead City, "Good day, Doctor Miller. It was a pleasure meeting you."
"Good day," Caroling nodded and watched them leave.
