Sav dutifully let the nurse fuss over her as she glanced about the room. Fortunately, the Grissom wasn't hauling any diplomats or guests, and so she managed to get a Guest Quarters that was only shared by two others who were not much there as they were working on getting the Merlin into a semblance of shape for going back to a shipyard for a once over. As the nurse once again prodded and asked how she was feeling, Sav churred gently and said, "Tired from lack of sleep as medical staff kept coming in at all hours of the night, and fortunately the Zamboni and Steamroller have moved on. I kept breakfast down, very little queasiness from it, and am so looking for a cup of coffee when you allow."
Sav shook herself gently, loving the feel of the silk pajamas against her fur. While it would be a couple more months before her body fully got rid of the Toluene poison, enough was gone to where she was no longer feeling 'ants' crawling about her skin. She still had some numbness here and there, accompanied by tingles once in a while, but all was to be expected. After all, in subjective time for her, she had her extensive surgeries just a month and a half ago. The cyrostasis had kept her and Sierra's time down to just an hour over the time the Merlin disappeared to when she was found.
Sav was happy to see the nurse leave the room and she picked up a Padd to read her mom's latest book that had come out during the time she was in Stasis. She was very glad to find the romance book selection on the Grissom fully updated as several female crew on board loved the style of Romance her mom always wrote.
Michael was overjoyed to make a house call. It was much better than seeing his patients in the critical ward of Sick Bay. He brought his med kit just to make sure that the patient was doing okay. If all went well he would get some answers to his questions as well. He pushed the door chime and awaited permission to enter.
Sav paused in her reading and looked up at the door as the chime sounded out in her room. 'Strange, the nurses just barge in... maybe Apollo or Kachiko?' crossed her mind. She called out in her lilting voice, saying, "Please enter, Ahma decent."
"Good morning to you." Michael said with a smile. "I thought I would stop by and see how you were doing? It was quite an ordeal that you have been through." Michael set his med kit down as he walked over to his patient.
The rare reverse-colored Mephetian female patient looked at the newcomer as he came over to her bed. Her nostrils flared as her ears perked up to focus their attention on him. She tilted her head, saying, "Terran.. male.. familiar... oh, your scent was in the room after the forcefield dropped." She grinned, continuing, "Nice to meet you Doctor Ki, I'm Commander Save'ena Tillatix of the Merlin, former CAG and now CFCO." She moved slightly sensuously in the silk pajama's and asked, "Are you the one to thank for mah PJ's? They are helping with mah skin tingles as they rub across mah fur, those tingles due to mah body trudgin' along ta get rid of the toluene poisoning.. thanks." Sav assumed the good doctor had read her file and knew why she was on light duty even before being frozen for multiple months.
"You are quite welcome, and yes I am the Chief Medical Officer of the Grissom taking care of you for the time being. I am glad that you are doing better. But I do have one huge question. Why were you and the child placed into stasis? There is absolutely no record of it, or the records were lost. We are just not sure yet. It is my belief that if we can figure out what happened to you and the Commander's daughter then perhaps we will be led to what happened to the Merlin." Michael said as he sat down next to the bed.
Sav cast her eyes down as a blush spread from her muzzle and up to her ears. She took in a breath, let it out, then said, "I did. I placed Sierra and myself into Cyrostasis. It takes half the time to go under compared to full Field Stasis pods. We had to hide, to become unknown."
Michael nodded in agreement. "But the question is why? Why did you have to become unknown?"
A water glass lifted from the side table and moved over to Sav. She took it from the air and took a sip, then released it to go back to the table. She stated, "I have minor telekinetics.. stunted for my race." She took shook herself, then continued, "The Merlin was in orbit around a class M planet we had discovered near the Lazarus Star. The time was mid morning. I had just got off of shift at the helm and was on my way to visit the Kitlings at school. I had been doing two and a half hour shifts because of being on light duty, and I would take a nap with the younguns. I was outside the school when... I felt... a presence. The Merlin seemed to lurch, shudder. My fur began standing out on my neck, as though someone, or something was watching me. I felt my tail go into protective response. The Emergency alert went off and I started to turn around to head back to the bridge, but I was interrupted. Right in front of me, I saw a couple of running officers suddenly warp, as though through a kaleidoscope, and disappear. Melody's voice came across a ship broadcast saying all crew to emergency stations, and then her voice was gone mid sentence. As I am on light duty, that is Medical. I rushed into the classroom to find no teacher and only three kitlings of the normal 20. I grabbed the two youngest into my arms and shifted the oldest over my tail and I ran to medical."
Sav continued, "However, when I got there, panic was everywhere. Right in front of us, more crew disappeared. I had to do something, so I motioned for a couple of medtechs to follow and we went into the iso chamber and activated it, trying to keep ourselves from disappearing. I gave each meditech a child, while Sierra glommed onto my leg and stayed with me. I did a remote life sciences search and found only fifty people left, and those were disappearing rapidly. Sierra whimpered and I turned around to find the other four who were with us were gone. I gather my tail's protective field had kept Sierra and I from being sensed by whatever was removing crew from the ship. In checking on ship status, I found it was going into long term orbital standby mode around the planet we were orbiting. Engineering must have realized what was going on and wanted to preserve the ship to be found in the future."
"However, with so few people left, if I was going to have a chance to stay with the ship and protect Sierra, I had to find a way to continue to hide our life signs, as my tail would not continue to envelope Sierra and I when I went into deep sleep, and I had to do it quickly. So, I set up a timer and activated the Cyrostasis chamber as it would put us under much faster than the full Stasis, and freezing us would dampen our life signs to help keep us hid. So, I let Sierra know we were going to sleep for a bit, then wake up later to find Daddy. It was at this time I felt the ship shudder and slow. I checked ship status again, and found the Merlin had entered the planet's ocean. So, I set up several defensive measures as well as more ways to hide us, and then I climbed into the pod with Sierra and started the cycle. The Merlin came to rest on a shelf in standby, and the next thing I remember is seeing a Red headed female Terran looking at me through the frosted cyroplastic window of the chamber. Sierra and I were safe from whatever that presence was that affected the ship and crew." Sav did not realize that the planet they found the Merlin on was light years away from the planet the Merlin had originally been orbiting. Sav paused a moment, then asked, "Did you find any others on board? Maybe on the planet?"
"There were no other survivors on the Merlin. However, scanning the planet was not thought of. I will get someone on that right away. That is some story Commander but my thought is what happened to the presence that led you to the pods to begin with. It must have left but is still out there. The Merlin's logs are under review, but having a first hand account would go a long way." Michael said as he reached for his medical tricorder. "If you do not mind I will take a quick scan while I am here. We have to make sure that there are no side effects from the decompression."
Sav listened intently to Michael, a sigh passing from her at hearing no other survivors on the Merlin itself. She replied to his inquiries, "Yes, please, on the scan. Ah would love tah make sure no detrimental affects remain from bein' frozen, ayuh. Just, let me get mah tail down and away." Sav shifted up in the bed and moved her tail down between her legs. She now sat down upon it. She snorted in light humor and said, "Mephetian's tails reduce scans, and when I feel the need to be protective, block life scans. However, moving it down away from my body lets you get proper readings of my body. The Merlin has a modified bio bed with specialty scanners to read my tail to make sure it is okay."
"Very good, thank you. I must confess I have never encountered one of your species before. However, it seems that the Merlin's medical database was readily available." Michael said as he scanned the body with the tricorder probe. The reading showed that her cell mitosis was a little higher than normal. But that was to be expected it should return to normal in another day.
As Ki took his readings, Sav said, "On the entity, I am surprised you'all haven't ran into it. A shuttle was on the way to check the newfound Class M planet around the Lazarus Star when the Entity reacted and put the Merlin onto the bottom of the ocean. Strange." What Sav did not know was that the Merlin was not found on that planet, but another one light years away. The tricorder showed heartbeat 54, oxygen 99%, two of the four areas of her lungs active, the other two not being used right now, lymphatic and endocrine systems at 85% functioning, digestive system fully functional, and reproductive system fully functional and having started the female event of shedding the uteral lining, i.e. period. A yellow warning came up showing a slight amount of toxins in her skin, lymphatic, and endocrine system, that being Toluene and minute particles of nylon. (Mephetian Heartrates normal - Male 45, Female 50)
As the rest of the in depth scan came up on the tricorder Michael let an audible hmmm as the two interesting facts came up. "Commander these readings have a few things that need to be discussed. Would you rather clear the room for privacy or discuss them in front of everyone." Michael saw the warning light showing toxins. But the presence of nylon was throwing him off. He decided to scan again for toxins as he waited for her answer.
Sav glanced about. There was a Meditech and a nurse about, no other none medical crew about. She churred gently and said to them, "Would you all clear the room please? Thank you." She waited for them to clear the room as another scan was passed over her.
The scan once again showed the light presence of the flourophenylmethic phenol and microscopic nylon particles. These seemed to be mainly concentrated in her lymphatic, endocrine, and skin organs. Sav shifted a little bit and a little was now scanned in the fur oils at the base of her neck and base of her tail, as well as traveling the bloodstream towards the Anterior Liver. Her body was getting rid of the poisoning, it would just be a slow process. The lymphatic and endocrine systems upticked to 86% functioning. Sav shifted a little again to relieve a little pressure felt in her abdomen. Her period was getting ready to flow.
They were alone in the room and Sav smiled to Michael. "Okay, ready, Dr. Ki. Discuss away."
"Well Commander first it seems that you are having you menstruation cycle. The reason I bring this up as possible troubling is I know according to your medical record you have not had your cycle in about six years. Do you know what caused it to cease? Knowing that could lead us to a reason as to why it has come back. The other point is you are showing signs of being poisoned. Your body is ridding itself of the poison which in and of itself is a marvelous thing to see. However, it will be a long process. It also leads the question how and or why you were poisoned." Ki began as he closed the medical tricorder. The next answers that he needed had to come from the Commander herself.
Sav blinked at the first sentence. Her ears flicked as her mind tried to catch up with what Dr. Ki said. She started to speak, however, Dr. Ki brought up a second point and she worked on trying to get past that her period was finally back and listen to what he was saying. Her throat worked as she managed to grasp around the information he was asking for. She closed her eyes, shook herself, and then finally focused on him with a big smile.
Sav replied, "It.. Is.. BACK! That is soooo awesome, Doc. It shows I am becoming all female again... it's back it's back it's back... " She churred and snorted out in light humor. Looking back at him, she said, "Sorry for being excited... my cycle being back shows I have gotten rid of enough of the deliberate poisoning of my body to being closer off of light duty."
Her tail shook twice as she calmed herself. Smiling to Michael, she now answered his questions. "My period has been gone because of the toluene poisoning. The Starfleet Strom Thurman Medical Research Institute on Apollonia put a syntheduralex mesh inside of me to hold my insides together after I had 'unwanted, amorous advances' by a Fed Councilman who wanted my virginity, life, and pelt, and was making sure to take all three. I was rescued right before death. However, Institute surgery docs were paid off by that Councilman to use a Cadaver mesh doped with the wrong glue. A cadaver mesh is made with nylon so it can be implanted and removed many times for doctor practice, and that wrong glue has a negative impact on the body. Well, pretty much, that doped cadaver mesh was supposed to kill me, and almost did. I gather from the Starbase 306 surgeons that they removed it with my lymphatic system at 18%... at 15% I would have died. The side effect of the toluene poisoning is that it suppressed my endocrine systems as well, so, no period for six years. Thus, because of the extensive surgeries on the starbase, and the poisoning, and nylon particles, I am on light duty for a while." A smile spread across her face again as she said to no one in particular, "Aunt Flo is back.... she's finally back."
"Ah well then the return of your cycle is very good and welcome sign. It does trouble me that you were poisoned by a colleague of mine simply because of what you are. Well then, I will have to make regular check ups on you as the cycle takes full hold. Also with all due respect, I must be informed if you become sexually active, it is quite unknown what will happen after that you have been through. However, in the here and now I think all is well and I can leave you to get some rest." Michael spoke as he packed up his med kit.
Sav sputtered out a laugh and said, "Yeah, because I'm a Mephetian, the Fed Rep bought me for 5 million for my virginity, life, and pelt... so, yeah, because of what I am fits... huh." She shook herself to settle, then said, "Umm, Sorry, I just am still recovering from having relived that when the psi counselor on Starbase 306 removed the imprints from the Research center." She smiled and finished with, "Yeah, as far as sexually active, naah... Mephetians save themselves for marriage. The difficulty is now finding a husband who doesn't mind damaged goods... heh."
Michael rose and smiled "Somehow I do not think it will be that hard." He replied. As he headed for the door the thoughts about her reaction to his comments came to the forefront. She was still in a delicate mental state. It was time to bring in the Ship's Counselor.
