Mission: Lost Souls
Location: Port-side Deck Five Boarding Hatch
Timeline: SL1 - After Merlin Arrival
2059 words - 4.1 OF Standard Post Measure

Kachiko and her young Mephetian friend turned around a corner in the gangway on Deck Five, Kachiko pausing ever so briefly as she spied the Security detail standing at Parade Rest with a couple of familiar faces. The lean and lanky Latina, Staff Sergeant Rita Hernandez and Kachiko's own sweet little daughter, Reiko.

Sav followed along, her ears moving to pick up sounds about while her nose twitched in picking up various scents around the observation/meeting area for the ship docking at this particular dock, which was the Merlin at this time. She was loving having her full senses coming back to her and the information brought with them to her. She smelled.. Kachiko/NotKachiko and realized she picked up ReiRei. She made sure to keep back and to the side of Kachiko as she knew the child was soon to be a bullet seeking its target, and sure enough, her premonition came true.

"Mom!" Reiko cried. The effusive girl suddenly charged past Security, dashing right up to Kachiko just for the Commander to ensnare the girl in her arms.

"ReiRei!" Kachiko sighed with relief. "Have you been behaving for Miss Rita?"

Face still buried in Kachiko's shoulder, Reiko managed to get out, "I think so."

Now the Staff Sergeant interjected, having walked over, "Actually, Colonel, I don't think I was really even needed. She's been really well behaved. She's finished with school and everything. I managed to get her enrolled in Nursing school and she already has her EMT-1 certification."

Kachiko drew back from the young girl, "Wow! Good job, ReiRei!"

Sav could not help but let out a churr at hearing what Miss Rita said about Reiko. It always did a mom proud to hear good things about her daughter, and in Sav's point of view, semi-sister as Kachiko was her surrogate Mom at the Academy, well, to her, anyways. She never told Kachiko this, preferring to keep it to herself so as to not add any dynamics to their already unique relationship.

Kachiko then turned the girl, "Reiko-chan, this is Save'ena. I was her advisor when she went to the Academy and she is a good friend of mine."

Sav flicked her ears, tail, and whiskers as she raised up her right hand to curl her fingers in a 'Hi' gesture. She said, "Greetings, Reiko-chan, please, call me Sav."

Reiko looked up past the uniform, and upon seeing the cute furred face, let out a squeal of joy, "Oh my gosh! Hi! I'm Reiko!"

Sav churred in excitement at Reiko's joy at seeing her. She replied in kind, "A KITLING KITLING KITLING... Hi, I'm Sav. Can I get a hug?" For those who follow past female singers, Sav's voice sounded very much like Andrea Britton, but with more lilt along with an exoticness behind it due to her churrs and her muzzle to form the words and sounds. (To listen to her, Andrea Britton is known for her song 'Am I on your mind' from Best of Trance 4 collection).

"Of course you can have a hug!" Reiko effused, throwing her arms around the Mephetian's neck as much taller woman crouched down.

Sav wanted to give ReiRei the full experience of a Mephetian hug. She brought around her tail to envelope Kachiko's kitling into her embrace. Her tail curved about Reiko as Sav gathered the 5' daughter into her arms fully while bringing her muzzle down along Reiko's neck, letting her feel her whiskers and fur, then when coming up the face, she marked Reiko with her friend musk glands (located behind her whiskers) just along the temple line near Reiko's ear, then put her muzzle over Reiko so that Reiko was breathing in her Vanilla-Cinnamon natural scent from her neck. She churred out, giving vibrations to Reiko, and said, "Luv Yah, Kitling ofa Kachiko, Luv yah sis."

Reiko squealed again, this time at a lower volume, since she was so much closer to those cool animal like ears now. The feeling of the woman's fur against her face made the tiny girl giggle and remember a fun line from an old Earth cinema, "It's so fluffy I'm gonna die!"

Sav did not understand the reference, but did know 'fluffy' as Rina had used it with her during her time at the Academy. She churred in humor with Reiko.

That remark set Kachiko to laughing, "I'm surprised that you remember that film, ReiRei."

Reiko drew back from the embrace, "I loves ya to, Savvy! You're a friend of Mom's and those are kinda rare." The girl's eyes turned to her mother, "Of course, Mom! I love that cinema!" Unsaid was why Reiko loved the film.

Sav tilted her head gently as she let go of Reiko. She would have thought Kachiko had many, many friends, but that she was a 'rare' one made Sav's feelings glow in response.

Now the Staff Sergeant interjected again, "Colonel, we really should return to the Runabout."

Kachiko eyed the Enlisted woman for a brief moment, before, "Alright. We need to get off the ship anyway." The white haired woman took one of Reiko's hands and lead the girl off the Merlin and onto the Starbase.

"You're of course welcome to come along, Save'ena," Kachiko smiled back at her friend and shipmate.

Sav churred and replied, "Sure thing, Kachiko. Ah would luv tah meet mah companion again." Sav had pleasant memories from Asteroid dodging in Terra's asteroid belt.

The four gals wound their way through the crush of humanoids on the wide open promenade deck of the huge Starbase. All the while, the young girl holding her mother's hand chose to merrily skip alongside, humming a tune that Kachiko did not recognize.

Sav loved the openness and joy of Reiko as she held her mom's hand. For herself, Sav was trying to relax, but the crush of people about them brought up memories of the crush of buyers checking her over in the orion slave dungeon, and Sav just could not shake the feeling that she was being eyed up for female meat. She knew it was just from having relieved the dungeon time when the Starbase Counselor removed the imprints, but as that was fresh, she just couldn't shake the feelings. So, she concentrated on Kachiko, Reiko, and Rita, maintaining a happy appearance for them.

Finally, they arrived at a thick and wide double door. Rita Hernandez stepped forward and let the optical sensor register her retinal pattern, after which the large doors hissed and slid open before them.

As they stepped through, visible was the same flat black modified Danube class runabout that Save'ena remembered from her time at the Academy. Standing in the open hatch was a pale-green skinned girl, wearing a Senior Cadet's uniform at Parade Rest. Spying Kachiko, the girl moved to attention, "Lieutenant Colonel, the Cadet reports that the vessel is secure."

Sav churred gently at the doors opening on the Cadet. However, her scent reached out and grabbed Sav, causing the Mephetian to balk slightly, as well as feeling her heart leap out to the Cadet. The first was from 'ORION' screaming at her, the second was due to the pheremone scents saying, 'female'. Sav knew exactly how male Orions viewed the green females, and how those same females were used to goad on the females in 'training' in the dungeon. Sav flinched as she tried to shake off her memories associated with those scents.

"At ease, Cai," Kachiko grinned. Cai dropped to the hangar deck from the hatch, before stepping over to embrace Kachiko, "How are you, Aunt?"

"I'm doing just fine, CaiCai," Kachiko remarked, before asking. "What are you doing here?"

"She's in my care, Colonel," Rita spoke up. "When I filed our flight plan, the Academy requested that I bring the Cadet along. She's to board the Merlin for her Cadet Cruise."

Kachiko looked interested, "What will Cadet Sun be doing aboard?"

Sav hung back, letting the reunion play out in front of her. However, she now had the full name of Kachiko's niece and filed it away. 'Cai Sun, CaiCai, niece, half-orion green female, friend.'

"Cadet Sun is assigned to the Merlin as a temporary Yeoman for Captain Barstow, Colonel!" Cai reported.

"Okay, everyone. I was transferred back to the Fleet. I am a Commander, again and the new Executive Officer of the Merlin," Kachiko corrected.

"Cadet, this is Lieutenant Commander Save'ena Tillatix, the Chief Flight Officer of the Merlin and a very old friend of mine," Kachiko smiled. "Listen to her advice."

"Sav, this is my niece, Cai Sun. Her mother is my half-sister that I told you about?"

Sav stepped forward and embraced Cai. She stroked over Cai's hair as she whispered, "Yes, I remember, Kachiko, I remember." She gave Cai a gentle kiss along her left ear and whispered, "Glad to meet you, Cai... I'm Sav... Glad to meet you." There was hope, sadness, and longing in Sav's voice as her tail went into full protective mode to keep Cai away from those who would take her for the dungeon.

Cai squeaked with surprise and Kachiko gently touched Sav's back, having recognized the physical response, "Sav, you and the Cadet are safe here, don't worry."

Sav nodded, saying, "Yes Kachiko.. safe." Sav knew they were, yet, the memories made it hard to not feel safe. She was glad Kachiko recognized what was going on with her and helped to reinforce she, and CaiCai, were safe. She released Cai as her tail moved from being around the Cadet and back to being behind Sav.

"The ship is off-limits for now as she's due for a refit," Kachiko gestured towards the hatch. "Let's go requisition temporary quarters and then lunch?"

Sav snorted out in humor as she offered a possible space for them. "Hey, Gals, I have an idea, ifin yah want. I am still registered with the Dips and could get us some really nice Dip Envoy quarters ifin yah want falutin high class quarters. Ah could even ask fer ah personal butler, ifin yah wants. Otherwise, let's get tah command officer quarters deck. Witha Kachiko bein' full Commander, sheun has access tah command decks and shoppin' area. We could have fun there." Sav snorted out in humor and added, "Sorry for my speech. I am still recovering from brain surgery, so mah accent comes ana goes."

"You're just fine," Kachiko was glad that Sav's protective response didn't overwhelm her sense. "As for quarters, that sounds good, minus the butler."

Sav churred out with a "Done!" Her wrist computer lit up as she was already in contact with the Diplomatic Corps to get them really nice quarters.

Rita perked up, "If I have your leave, Commander, my rack in the barracks is calling my name."

Kachiko nodded, "Thanks, Rita. Get some shut-eye." After the Staff Sergeant departed, Kachiko looked at Save'ena, "She's enlisted Corps. The barracks are required. She can't hang out with us anyway. We're officers, though it seems that Cadet Sun will be reporting directly to her when the Captain isn't working her to death."

Sav's head tilted as her mouth formed an 'ohhh'. She was not sure how the Marine enlisted worked as she had only worked with fighters and direct assistants. With direct enlisted assistants, there was always an anteroom quarters attached to the diplomatic suite, but if Kachiko said Rita had to go to the barracks, the barracks it would be.

Cai nodded, "Yes ma'am. I was happy to hear that I would be working under Rita."

"That's Staff Sergeant Hernandez, Cadet," Kachiko reminded the quarter Orion girl.

"Yes ma'am."

Sav grinned at the reminder, and the information coming up on her wrist computer. She told her group, "Okay, we have a family suite Envoy Quarters. Five bedrooms, three baths, Snack room and bar in foyer to bedrooms, main meeting/living room, full bar, secure communications room, stocked kitchen, entry foyer with assistants desk, and full dip passes for shopping and dining. Common, let's enjoy ourselves, ayuh."
