Mission: The New Collective
Location: USS Lionheart
Timeline: Current
373 words - 0.7 OF Standard Post Measure

The Vesta-class ship, the USS Lionheart was on a routine patrol of the Azure Nebula when it detected a strange tritanium signature inside the nebula itself. As there wasn't supposed to be any ships inside it at this time, Captain Montana thought there was something odd and ordered all sensors to be trained on the signature. Her science officer, Lieutenant Erick Avari, was running scans when he noticed something familiar about the signature and then became convinced of what he thought; it was a Borg sphere.

"Captain, we have a problem. That tritanium signature we detected is a Borg vessel," Avari said.

"What?! Red Alert! All crew to their posts! Let me see it, Lieutenant."

Avari brought it up on the screen. And it was larger than any other sphere they had previously encountered. It was massive and looked to be armed for bear. This sphere was not designed for surveying or reconnaissance. It was made for destruction as far as they could determine. It appeared that the Borg had changed their MO from assimilation to extermination.

The 'Super Sphere' turned in the direction and started to scan them...

Elsewhere in the quadrant, in orbit around Dekendi III was another Borg vessel. Yet this was also appeared to be a ship designed for destruction instead of assimilation. The USS Polaris and , both Sovereign-class starships, were sent in to investigate and ordered to engage if prompted to do so. Captain Balarus of the Horizon had his vessel perform scans of the cube to ascertain the number of drones aboard while Captain Majors of the Horizon had his ship perform tactical scans of it to help determine the tactical strength of the massive ship. When they have gathered their data, Balarus contacted Majors and they came up with a plan to handle their shared problem.

It was then that this 'Hyper Cube' turned towards them and began scanning the two ships...

And just at that moment, the cube and sphere opened fire in the three Starfleet vessels at exactly the same time destroying them. This confirmed Starfleet's worst fears; the Borg were no longer interested in assimilation but annihilation.
