The rush of wind against her face as she rode hard and fast across the flat plans before her. She felt the fluid rhythm of every stride that her horse made as paced alongside of the mustangs that she was riding with. The lasso making lazy circles over her head as she readied herself for just the right moment, the moment that she decided to let it fly free...
Three days, it was the annual three day break and adopt competition that the town ran at the family ranch. It was one that she hadn't been able to compete in very often since she'd been in Starfleet, but had been thrilled that it was till kept going, after all in this day and age ranching was starting to become even more of a thing of the past. The timing of this earth trip had just been perfect. It was time for this years computation and she was going to make the best of it as she entered. It was that reason that she was running her own horse hard and fast, she'd picked out the young stallion that she'd wanted for this and now was working on breaking it from the heard.
The slightest shifting of her horses stride brought her to ready even more, to lean forwards just a hair as she held her gaze upon the blue black stallion that was spooking out of the heard. While she didn't trust people very easily, she trusted her horse with her life and it showed as she rode. He, at the moment was her legs, her second set of eyes, her stamina. She was focused on the house she was after, her steed was set to keep watch over the land and the heard around them. A sudden flick of her wrist sent the lasso flying, circling over the mustangs head with ease to take landing.
A slight tug to tighten it just a bit as she gathered some of the slack. Unlike most others who would give an instant sharp pull of the rope to bring both of the horses to a stop, she allowed them both to run for a bit longer... letting them all feel the freedom they so longed for. Only giving a slight movement every so often to slow her horse gradually causing the other horse to also slow, till eventually they both went to a easy lope as the rest of the heard ran free. Making a slow easy circle around till they started back the way they had come from to meet up with her brother once more. Bree had seem him make quick work of taking the horse he'd picked.
Reaching him, she smirked as she spoke "Of course you get a mare." Bree teased her brother as she rode up alongside Dustin and the dapple grey mare he'd caught. Of course the mare was moving along beside him without much of a fight. Unlike the stallion she had who was tugging and trying to rear at times, clearly not happy with it's current predicament.
"Yeah well, I already have someone interested if I can break this one. His daughters been wanting a grey mustang... so went with what I knew would have a home." He said with a grin. "Good luck." He offered his sister. "You'll need it with that one."
"Nope, no luck needed." She replied before giving her horse a nudge to send him back into a free riding gallop, working to try and tire the mustang next to her out a little on the way to the corral.
Taking a moment, she made sure the loop knot was tight upon the saddle horn, last thing she wanted to do was lost the stallion that ran next to her. Closing her eyes as she felt the wind upon her face, she once more let her mind escape into the life she was currently living. What was it that kept her returning to Starfleet? This is where she was the most free, wasn't it? This is where she lived for the moment and trusted herself, her instincts. This is also where she lived alone, yeah... she had her family, but there was more than family. There was more out there. She knew this, she always had. It was why she'd joined Starfleet in the first place. Her sigh came as she felt the change of her horses pace, the slowing and shortening of it's stride.
With ease as they reached the corral once more, she dismounted and guided the new arrival into the ring before releasing him. With that done, she took a few minutes to untack her own horse and start a cooling down walk. Glancing over to the young mustang, one she dubbed Indigo and already was planning out the best way to break him. The easy part, the capture, was done. The hard part was now to come.
