Sansa entered her parent's bedroom. Melody had already had left for her duty on the bridge but Draxx did not have to start his shift that early he was due to get up shortly, or so he thought.
"Good morning Dad." She said softly. "If you'd like to get up and washed and dressed, breakfast will be ready in a few moments. I've talked with Mom and your duty shift has been covered today and I've arranged to spend the day with you."
Draxx sat up and processed what she said. "That sounds lovely. Are we going fishing?"
“Of course.” She replied beaming a smile. “I’ve written a holodeck program and who knows, you might catch that elusive spiny fish.” She added. “Now get washed and dressed. There’s a fresh stack of pancakes with bacon, eggs, hash browns with fresh orange juice and coffee.”
"Alright bossy boots," Draxx called after her. This was very unexpected. Not that he was going to reject spending time with his little girl. Well big fully grown up girl. He pulled off his underpants once the door shut behind her and hot tailed it to the bathroom. Ten minutes later he was clean and smelling wonderful things coming from the rest of their quarters.
Sansa had put on an impressive spread for breakfast. She was sat waiting for her Dad to get ready. "There you are." She stood and pulled a chair for him. "With me going off on this mission with Lieutenant Teague for at least a month, I wanted to spend a day with you." She sat back down and poured them both a large glass of orange juice.
"Well, I shall enjoy that very much," Draxx said with a smile. "And this looks delicious."
He helped himself to eggs and toast before something dawned on him. "Who is Lieutenant Teague honey?"
Sansa took a sip of her orange juice. "He's this new marine biologist that's come on board. He's coming with me on the mission to get the whales settled on Fay's planet. He was.... a bit of an arse when he came on board."
“I’m sure you just got off on the wrong foot,” Draxx commented but he got the feeling this could be the next Hayley.
"Yeah, He's.... complicated. But Mom has ordered him to be nice to me and he is making an effort now so fingers crossed." Sansa replied, finishing her breakfast. "Come on, those spiny fish won't catch themselves."
“Very true,” Draxx said stuffing in another pancake.
***Holodeck 1***
Sansa had created a new fishing program, especially for her and her dad. They were in quite a large boat that had a well-stocked galley. Lowered fantail with two seats gave a prime fishing location, a vast ocean stretched in all directions.
After doing some research on fishing etiquette, Sansa had learned that beer and fishing went hand in hand. she got two cans, one for herself and one for her dad. "I should warn you, there's not just spiny fish in the water." she said with a smile as she opened her beer and sat down next to him.
“Good that's how I like it,” Draxx stated casting off. “I wanted to talk to you along the same lines. Plenty more fish in the sea. I know Hayley leaving hurt but honey you need to move forward. There are other people out there who will make you happy again.”
"I know Dad and I've finished shedding tears for Hayley. It's time to move on." Sansa said as she took a sip of her beer. "I'm looking forward to this trip to Fay's homeworld again and seeing Fay again. You know, after she left I've been.... more in tune with whales... it's hard to explain."
"Well if you figure it out let me know. I might be able to get more in tune with Spiney fish and make it easier to catch them," Draxx joked. "I'm glad your at the point to move on honey. There's someone out there for everyone. Look at me. I got your mum."
"Yeah. You got Mom pregnant with me if I'm not mistaken?" Sansa replied with a cheeky smile, just as Draxx's fishing line jerked, indicating he had caught something.
"Our relationship is more than that thank you," Draxx said. "But count your stars I did or you wouldn't be here now would you?" he chuckled. "This is the one .... " he indicted his fishing rod. He started winding it in. Then glowered before Laughing when an old boot came up. "Someone programmed that in for a laugh?"
Sansa tried to look innocent and not smile as she watched Draxx remove the old boot from his line. "Now... How ever did that get there?" She asked taking a sip of her beer.
At Draxx's side of the boat, a large column of water suddenly gushed into the air and a large humpback whale surfaced next to the boat, watching Draxx curiously
"I think you've got an admirer," Sansa said to Daxx and she recast her line. "Don't worry, you won't snag your line on her."
"They really are very big aren't they?" Draxx said his eyes wide, even though he knew its computer generated and not real. "Be careful on this assignment Sansa. I know your smart but Dads always worry."
Sansa nodded. "I know Dad. Yeah, They're really big but they're gentle too. I've swum with the real thing and despite their size, I felt safe."
The whale disappeared slightly and then rose back up towards the boat, there was a Spiny fish sitting on its head. The whale moved closer to the boat, as if offering it to Draxx.
"I think she's giving you a present." Sansa added.
The Barjoran's face lit up. "Whoever programmed that in, it's adorable. Thank you," he bowed at the whale. He gingerly reached out for the fish and patted the mammal on its ... erm nose.
"So you know when you get back the boys might be here," he said seriously. "And I don't want you to feel left out or anything. You're always my baby girl. There's gonna be a lot of .... well it's going to be a major handful. Your mum and I, we agreed we would name one each. But I want you to pick the name of the one I get to name. I think you would do a better job than this old dad here. So what do you think? Any ideas?"
Sansa thought for a moment. "How about Ricky? after you."
"Well, you know Bajoran names are different. I go by Draxx but what a lovely idea. Ricky it is," he said
Sansa grinned. "Well, that's one down, one to go. You know I'm going to be back before Mom gives birth." Sansa said, taking another sip of her beer and casting her line back into the water. "Why don't you have another go, I think you'll catch one this time."
Draxx nodded. He knew better than to argue with the look on her face. He cast off again and after a couple of minutes felt his line pulling. "Okay, let's see. Will it be a fish or another boot?"
"I'm pretty sure it will be a fish this time." Sansa said getting her holo imaging device ready for the perfect picture as Draxx pulled out that elusive Spiny fish from the water.
"Yeah!" cheered Sansa "Got one at last and I got a really good picture of you catching it too."
“Good. I have proof I caught one,” Draxx said.
"Shall we go get a spot of lunch now? We can go for a walk in the arboretum afterwards." Sansa suggested.
“That sounds lovely sweetheart,” he smiled. “Your old dad appreciates that your spending today with him.”
