Gregor had just finished his shift and had briefed his relief person on the status of security and the ship. He looked around and noticed Mathias had already departed the bridge, He stepped into the turbolift and tapped his conbadge. " Computer, location of Lieutenant McPhee. " The computer chirped. -^- Lieutenant McPhee is located on the Atrium. -^- " Take me to the Atrium. " As the turbolift whisked him away to the desired location.

Gregor arrived and it took him several minutes of searching around before he located Mathias, And he appeared to be alone. All of a sudden he began to feel somewhat nervous, He held his ground until the feeling subsided before walking towards Mathias. He chided himself mentally. Why am I so nervous? This man is my friend. He thought to himself. He called out as he approached. " Mathias, do you have a minute? There's something I'd like to talk to you about. "

Mathias was looking at some flowers taking a close look at them, when he heard Gregor's voice he turned around, a welcoming smile greeting the chief of security. "Hello, and certainly, I have the time." motioning for the man to come closer.

Gregor hesitated a moment before approaching Mathias. " First off I need some advice from you and to inform you of a developing situation in which I feel I should personally inform you of. " He took in a breath and slowly let it out before continuing. " First off the advice I would like to ask of you. A few months ago I met this most wonderful lady on Starbase 308 and there was a strong attraction between the two of us and we started to date as of recently. She's very special to me and I have the utmost respect for her and I don't want to do anything to mess up this relationship with her. She's an extraordinary person of the likes I've never met before and I'm completely fascinated by her, and her name is Avelina. "

Mathias was clipping off a dry leaf and what Gregor had said at first didn't sink in. "I have a sister named Avelina" he responded and then cut off what looked to be a dry twig as well. Then it hit him, and he slowly turned around and rose to his full height. "Wait you said, SB 308? And then Avelina? Well then this is a small world. There is only one Avelina on SB 308.. my my what a coincidence for this to happen. Avelina.. you don't say." he had a thoughtful expression on his face. "Tell me more my good man." putting away his trimming scissors.

Gregor relaxed a little as the scissors were put into they're sheath, not wanting to deal with an upset older brother. " I'll be honest with you, I do care for your sister, I just recently found out during our last conversation that she had a brother serving aboard the Merlin. It didn't take long after that to put two and two together and figure out who her brother was aboard the ship. "

He collected his thoughts a moment. " I want to see where this relationship goes with Avelina, And since we're friends I wanted you know about the relationship we're having and not for you to find out about it from someone else. When it comes to matters of the heart I don't like sneaking around and I felt I needed to tell you about it as to avoid any misunderstandings. And don't worry, I won't do anything that would hurt her or bring any pain into her life I have to much respect for her to do that. Are we good? " Gregor asked.

Mathias took a good look at Gregor, "Well, we are good. And I do trust you where my sister is concerned." he remarked quietly. "And my sister is a remarkable woman. She and my other sister are rather skilled in handicrafts. As well as their cooking. If things do move forward in a romantic sense, I won't mind at all. You'll just have to get the green light from the others. My parents as well as my grandmother." giving a teasing grin.

Gregor took note of Mathias grin. " Ahh... The honey I want you to meet my parents gauntlet. " He said stroking his beard. " I hadn't thought that far ahead yet. Perhaps I could substitute that with a rite of ascension ceremony and just bare my heart in the river of blood. No? " He sighed. Well if it ever gets to that point I'll have to confer with you and make a worthy plan so that I may survive intact. "

Mathias threw back his head and laughed, "Forgive me, that was quite the description of facing the intended love interest's family. True they might scrutinize you, but... You will be okay. My grandmother is a wise woman. She would tell you if she thought you were unworthy right off the bat. However, I think that you won't have any worries."

Gregor gave a nervous laugh. " your sister is a very special person, but we've barely started dating and I guess the mention of meeting the parents and grandmother this early in the relationship just made me a tad nervous. I just would like to get to know her better before I have to even think about something like that. When Avelina thinks it's time for us to do something like that I'll go with her to earth to meet the family, I want to take care working on us first before working on the external aspect. Slow and steady on the course is the best way to progress in the matters of the heart, and I don't want to botch it up. "

"Taking it slow is a good thing, also at times you need to just seize the day. However my story on relationships, you do have to proceed with caution." giving Gregor a calculating look. "Relax my good man. Avelina is a very understanding woman, and forgiving. Granted she is a red head so.. watch the temper when she does get angry. Which isn't too often." Mathias added. "And if you do decide to woo her and wed her before going to see grandmother do so. Our parents are on the station so close enough to see and meet."

" It's not Avelina that I'm worried about. And I've never done anything that I'd have to ask forgiveness for, And regardless of a woman's hair color, they can all have a temper. And it usually come out unless some man has pulled some bone headed stunt. Honestly my only real worry is that one day she'll see me as someone worthy to be with her. " He stopped and looked quickly back at Mathias. " What? Wait?...... Did you say your parents LIVE on Starbase 308? As in be there in a few hours? .... That kind of close ? "

Mathias had gone to look at the bottom of the rose bushes he had been inspecting, and directed his gaze once more towards Gregor. "Yes they live on the station. And also if my sister didn't think you worthy enough to associate with, you wouldn't be getting the time of day with her either." Mathias answered directly.

" Thank you. " Said Gregor. " That's promising to know." He said thoughtfully. " You know I've never second guessed myself like this before in a relationship, I really can't put it into words how she makes me feel, All I know is that I don't want to mess it up. " He looked at Mathias. " What is about you and your family that puts people at ease Mathias? Most brothers would be making threats about now about not hurting their sisters heart or feelings, But not you. Your reaction was more like let's sit and talk over a beer. Are your parents the same way? I'm curious to know. "

"It all depends on the situation, Gregor. I had the chance to sort of get to know you when we were working on the Ram's Head and I was able to ascertain who you are and what you are like. I do have a dark side, most everyone has." Mathias remarked, as he took out his trimming clippers once more to do more trimming. "My lady love was kidnapped, Gregor, Caroline Miller. I wanted to hunt down the dregs of society and kill them." Mathias turned his head towards him. "I was talked down from doing so. Scarlet for some reason didn't want me to walk that dark path. I was well prepared to go down there, prepared to do anything to get her back." a dangerous gleam appeared in his eyes. "I am not a man to be trifled with, even if I am a nice guy." then he gave a slight shrug to his shoulders then went back to trimming. "As to why we give off an aura of niceness, that is who we are. We prefer to give out positive feelings, its just our nature. Heaven help the person who gets on our bad side."

" We were friends before I met Avelina, And I'd have to be a complete fool to get on your bad side. I understand why you felt the way you did when your lady love was kidnapped, If someone took the woman I loved I would have reacted the same way. " Gregor fell silent for several moments. " When I was still an Ensign, I served with a woman named Tori. We were both in Security at the time, Some Federation colonist had been kidnapped by some pirates and were demanding a ransom. They had set up electronic shielding to prevent us from beaming up the hostages, so we had to go down in shuttles instead. The Pirates detected our approach and fired on us with a mounted weapon system. The shuttle crashed, we had one minor injury and Tori was the only causality that we had. Once I found out I had to be restrained or I would have slaughtered every pirate there. It took me awhile to let anyone close to my heart after that. "

"I truly can understand that one, fortunately I've been able to reunite with my dear Caroline. It was a challenge though, as she felt I was wanting someone else but her. My old crush came in as an ambassador for an entity who had come to investigate. It was most difficult." Mathias went quiet as she thought over what had happened. "It was quite the trial, and I had to stick to my code and feelings in order to traverse that delicate situation." he paused for a moment then he said, "If you don't mind my changing the subject. I've been asking questions and no one has been able to give me an answer yet. What happened to me after I reversed the gems, on that planet that almost was doomed? I remember reversing them and then a shock... afterwards no memory until I woke up in the infirmary."

Gregor fell silent for several moments as he looked at the ground, When he spoke it was in a hushed tone. " This is off the record and not to be repeated to anyone. Since you were part of the away team you should know what happened to you. " Gregor gave Mathias a serious look. " Starfleet has classified the mission log and placed a contact quarantine buoy in orbit of the planet. "

" After you were struck with the energy pulse that only affected you, you began to speak in two voices. One male and one female, which they claimed to be the gods of their planet. You turned and walked through a solid wall into the magma filled area with no harm to you and knelt down over the magma and stared sending energy down into the magma, the tricorder could not identify the type of energy being used. Light began to build up and then a sudden flash and all had returned to normal. You walked back out through the wall and in both voices we were told to leave and never return, you then collapsed to the ground. I checked you over and found no signs of injury and carried you to the transport site. We returned to the ship and you were taken to Sickbay, you slept for a couple of hours until you woke up on your own. I imagine the Doctor had a number of questions for you and ran a number of test on you afterward. " He cocked his head to the side. " Since you had no memory of the incident, How long did she keep you in sickbay? And how many test did she run on you? "

"Gregor, she didn't. Anya was more flummoxed about what happened, and I had snuck out of sickbay and met up with Caroline who had returned from being kidnapped, a savior of some of the people. She had ridden on the back of a dragon from what she told me. I went back to sickbay and did as Anya had told me, stayed there until she felt I was ready to leave and then, that was it. I haven't asked her anything more as she has been distraught over what happened on the planet. I don't blame her though that was a rather scary situation and she still blames herself. All I can say is, I am glad the planet was saved by some great power and I guess I will have to be satisfied with that. And thank you for telling me, it has been bothering me for quite some time. As for Avelina, I am thinking that she's head over heels in love with you. She had been sending me some messages that she had met someone that she really really liked, and that she hoped he would like her as much as she did him. Never told me his name though so now that mystery is solved as well." flashing a grin to Gregor.

Gregor chuckled. Well there's no worries that I don't like her. In fact I'm very much in love with Avelina. It's scary and comforting at the same time, I have never felt this strongly about a woman before. " He shook his head. " Sometimes I think she knows me better then I know myself. When we're together it feels right, so natural. It's like a moth to the flame and I just can't look away. I have to know where this will lead. "

"And so you must do so. Indeed you should." Mathias gave out a bit of a sigh, having finished his trimming of the plant he had been working on, then raised to a standing position. "Okay I am done here, and it seems you are going to do well where Avelina is concerned. Gregor I wish you the best of luck, and you have my blessings." giving a smile. "Now I think I need to go see to my lady love and see about having dinner. And speaking of her, you may want to go meet her, she is a lovely lady. And she is a counselor."

" Thank you Mathias, I am glad I have your trust and blessing to see you sister. " He then laughed a hearty laugh. " But on the last part of your statement I'm not sure if I should be honored or offended. " He said with a grin. " Are you inviting me to meet with you and your lady or telling me you believe I need counseling? " He said with an ear to ear grin.

Mathias rolled his eyes at that comment then gave a return smile, "It is an invitation to dine with Caroline and myself. And I don't know if you need to see the counselor that isn't my call. I know just a joke yes but, if I truly thought you needing to go see her then I would say so." giving a slight roll of his shoulders to loosen them up, "Speaking of my lady I need to go meet up with her. I will be seeing you around Gregor, and I can say this, welcome to the family." giving a broad grin.

" Thanks Mathias. Said Gregor. " Just let me know when and where and what I should bring and I'll be there. Perhaps we could do this when we get back to SB 308 as well, that way the four of us could go out on a picnic or something, but we still have plenty of time to decide what to do when that time comes. "
