Lieutenant Brooks was swat in front of the transporter pad with a tricorder. She had already opened up the primary energizing coils and was checking the entire system. The power surge had blown out the main pattern buffer and she was now making sure there was no more damage before starting repairs.

The doors opened and Doctor Miller came in.

Brooks looked up briefly, then went back to her tricorder "Doctor, I'm just running a full diagnostic on the transporter system so unless it's urgent I'm afraid it will have to wait."

"Its urgent Lieutenant," Caroline informed her. "I need a log of all activity to look at. Can you sort me that immediately?"

Brooks frowned for a moment "Yes, I've got the full transport log already. I was going to give it a look over when I'd finished here, why?"

"I have two officers in sickbay who have swopped consciousness into each others bodies from something that has occurred in this transporter," she informed her seriously.

The colour drained from her face and her hand flew to her mouth "WHAT? You mean that their personality's and memories have......... switched bodies? WOW" That's so COOL!"

"Its not cool. Its something that needs rectifying ... well if we can understand how its occurred and reverse it. But as soon as we can," she told her.

She blushed "I'm sorry, it was a little unprofessional" It must have had something to do with whatever they were stuck in out there. I Had difficulty with the matter stream and then there was that massive power surge. I'll see if I can pull the sensor records as well as the transport logs. It may be possible to reverse the effect with the transporter, but it's going to take some............ innovative rewiring " Brooks mused out loud.

"In that case I have to ask you to get to some "innovative rewiring," Caroline said.

Brookes paused for a moment "So Commander Jones is really Lieutenant Tillatix, correct?

"At present, they are inhabiting each others bodies yes," Caroline stated. "In all my years I have never seen anything like this."

Brooks shook her head, still not quite believing. "Neither have I. I'll get straight on to those modifications Doctor."

Caroline nodded, then turned and walked out.

As Brooks turned back to the transporter console, she thought to herself 'I've got to make some excuse to get to sickbay, this I've got to see.'
