Mission: Academy Days
Location: StarFleet Academy
Timeline: 1805 hours, September 2nd, 2389 SD 65345.44
2885 words - 5.8 OF Standard Post Measure

ON:

**** Synapsis: Captain Kachiko Bayushi found Cadet Saveena Tillatix deep in a national park after extenuating circumstances. She has rescued the young adult girl and is getting her back to the Academy. ****

The pair reappeared inside of a Runabout. Extricating herself from the injured Cadet, Kachiko rose up and moved forward, speaking softly, "Stay there, Cadet. It's safest that you move as little as possible right now."

To tell the truth, Sav had little strength left. Her body was going into shock from the day's exertion, exposure, her dehydration, realization of getting mickeyed again, and finally relaxing in having been rescued. She weakly replied, "Yes, Ma'am, stay put.. I'll stay put." She slipped into a light doze, her body temperature rising as it kicked into overdrive to replenish her blood while also limiting the absorption of the toluene poison knocked free out of the wrongly created cadaver mesh within her from her fall through the trees and the hard landing from getting down from the Cave.

Ten minutes later, the heavily customized runabout set down with a faint jolt. Kachiko reappeared in Sav's view as the aft ramp just a meter past where the Mephetian lay began to lower.

When it finally announced that it was lowered with a soft clank, two human women boarded, quickly moving to Sav's side, tricorders coming to hands.

The two Medical Techs came up to Sav. They injected Sav with two hyposprays first thing, one a universal antibiotic, the second one to help ramp up her hemogoblin production. That performed, they brought around their Tricorders to get a detailed scan of Sav. However, upon their first scans, both were rather shocked at the too low readings and several warning flashes upon their screens. They looked at each other, then began fiddling with their medical tricorders to get another reading. What the hell happened to this girl?

Kachiko did her best to stay out of the technicians' way as they got to work on the Mephetian Cadet.

As Sav was going in and out of consciousness, she only managed to see the two upon them getting ready for their second pass. She managed to find her voice, saying, "Here.. lead surgeon... Starfleet Thurman Institute... gave this... will correct starfleet tech... readings..." as she handed them a small data crystal.

PO1 Connoly put the data crystal into her tricorder and balanced her readings. As P02 Terrenon did the same, Connoly retook the readings. Several of the 28% life readings jumped to normal range, while the several warnings about foreign substances and a flourophenylmethic chemical poisoning within her body disappeared. Terrenon did the same, and relaxed.

Connoly spoke to Kachiko while she knelt down to treat the young lady. She worked on putting an IV band over Sav's arm as she spoke to Kachiko. "Well, Sir, she's in shock, dehydrated, some bruising, and it seems into heavy flow day for her menstrual cycle. Her pad is needing to be changed. This is probably why she's in a dehydrated state." Meanwhile, Terrenon went out to get the grav stretcher.

"Before you start pumping her full of fluids, I need you to draw blood for a tox-screen," Kachiko ordered. "I have reason to believe that the Cadet was drugged, as were the other female Cadets on their excursion. Beyond that, I have little information for you. I gave her a small amount of water immediately after finding her."

"Understood, Sir." She hit the sequence on the IV Band. While fluids could be injected into a body under pressure, taking out fluids still required direct access to the Vein, as well as helping patients in a dehydrated state in the field. The IV Band chirped its having gotten the sample. Unfortunately, Sav had come out of the knock out drug first because her body, with its higher healing rate, had found and scrubbed it out. The IV Band sent its analysis to the Medical Tricorder. The Tricorder ignored the Toluene poisoning as instructed by the data chip and came back with a no drugs found. Of course, once they got back to the infirmary, the labs would have their go at the blood sample.

One small anomaly showed on the tricorder, though. Connoly frowned lightly as she took a closer reading. She fiddled with her tricorder, then hmmed lightly. "There is a little internal bleeding, but it looks like her body is already fixing itself. We'll probably keep her in the infirmary and monitor her for changes, but from what I see, rest, fluids, and a chance to calm down will get her right as rain by Monday Morning."

"Please post security on her floor. No one unauthorized should be granted access."

Connoly replied, "Yes Sir." She and Terrenon gently supported the sleeping Sav and placed her on the Grav Sled. They led the way off of the shuttle. However, at the bottom of the ramp was a JAG Officer, Lt. Commander O'Dell, and a security officer with a heavy phaser pistol. The JAG nodded to the security officer, who turned and went with the now two slightly nervous Meditechs and their charge.

Kachiko sighed as she moved down the ramp, not keen in having to deal with JAG.

Lt. Commander O'Dell nodded to Kachiko, "Captain Bayushi. Thank you for finding our errant bad girl. Now, I have several pieces of good news for your charge, if she is willing to follow prescribed steps." He paused a moment, then continued, "And this matter is a little delicate due to the nature of the Seniors' Family ties."

Kachiko sighed and kept walking, keeping her peace thus far. She really didn't like dealing with lawyers.

He turned to walk with Kachiko. "The Seniors decided not to press any civil charges, which is good news number one. And, as this involved Cadets, the LEO's have turned over all their scans and findings to StarFleet. Next good news, as this is a cadet matter, and scuffles happen, the two Seniors raked by Cadet Tillatix are not pressing any charges against her. However, as the incident happened, there will be an inquest hearing to get all sides of the story. From what I have seen of the evidence, and heard from the Seniors, and their Admiral Dads, Cadet Tillatix has anger and self-control issues. From what I have heard through the grape vine, to keep Tillatix in the StarFleet Program, she will have to take Anger Management courses and Self Control courses, get signed off by counseling, and she should be golden."

"If the information I have pans out, Lieutenant Commander, the only charges assessed will be against these Seniors," Kachiko grumped aloud. "I have reason to believe that Cadet Tillatix and the other female underclassmen had been drugged and taken there against their will."

This information surprised the JAG. He responded, "I have seen nothing within the evidence that would suggest such an event occurred." He shook his head, "You better be very sure of this before making any accusations, considering who the Seniors' Fathers are."

Now she stopped and fixed the much taller man with a flinty glare, "If you permit command influence over this investigation, Lieutenant Commander, I will have you removed from your post and everyone trying to exert influence arrested for obstruction of justice. Do I make myself clear?"

Lt. Commander O'Dell's eyes narrowed as he looked down at the smaller Marine Captain. "Very clear, Captain. Nothing of the sort will happen. The evidence and findings must be solid due to who is involved. I would never allow command influence on any of my investigations, but I have to acknowledge it when it is there in order to proceed with care."

"It's nothing personal, Lieutenant Commander. There's a lot of cover-ups from powerful people around the young Cadet," Kachiko sighed. "Unfortunately, I can't disclose anything yet, not without consulting Vice Admiral Chen."

Savin sighed, then said, "Great, even more eggshells to be wary of. Alright, understood."

As the pair walked to the Admin Building where the SFCSI offices and labs were kept, Savin said, "Now, as you are the Cadet's advisor, I have arranged for you to see the gathered evidence, both the physical with photos on where gathered, the Cadet Medical Tricorder readings, the LEO's findings, and the Security Squads Tricorder readings. And, if you have any evidence, add it to the growing stack. Sound good?"

Kachiko nodded, "And evidence I have. I have tricorder scans from when I first found Tillatix in the woods. I also have visual and tricorder scans from evidence I discovered while I was tracking her."

They reached the building even as a Commodore and a Rear-Admiral were leaving. Inside, where normally there would be a skeleton crew, was a fully staffed office working away. Savin moved his hand in a motion to 'show' those in the room and remarked to Kachiko, "Like I said, because of those involved, a full investigation."

Kachiko arched an eyebrow, "Over a mere scuffle?"

Savin said in a low voice, "Yeah, I know, over a scuffle. A call to assemble a team came in at 0745 hours. I wasn't called in until 1720 hours, and came into what your going to see, along with being called into a room with multiple Admirals, a couple of Judges, and JAG's, all of whom gave me what I told you earlier. I'm late to the party myself."

They went to a side 'war' room and went inside. There were several computers showing scans, physical evidence collections in evidence bags, Padds with clipboards for chain of evidence continuity, and three CSI investigators going through it and making a map and timeline. In another room, an investigator was talking to a first year female cadet while her advisor stood nearby.

"Is that Cadet one of the other girls from the campsite?" Kachiko asked.

Savin nodded, "Yes, it is. We have been meeting with them one at a time, getting pretty much the same story. We have three to go still, Swensoran, Gruberheim, and M'Katerina."

"You should have drawn lab work immediately. I ordered security to do so immediately," Kachiko grumbled. "Three of these underclassmen and one of the Seniors are permitted to imbibe."

A lab-tech came into the room. She came up to Savin and Kachiko. "Sir's. Captain Bayushi, do you have a tricorder reading to be downloaded for evidence?" She held out the padd and clipboard. As Padd's could be hacked or modified, the clipboards with their sig space and thumbprint were always there to back up the sig and thumprint on the Padd.

Kachiko held out a pair of isolinear chips, "The blue labeled one is my tricorder recordings. The black label is my visual recordings from my IHADSS unit. I have memorized notable timestamps on the recording for you to reference. I need to write those down for you."

She accepted the clipboard, quickly scrawling down her personalized kanji signature, adding her thumbprint in the empty field next to the signature.

The lab-tech now put her signature and thumbprint on it, showing she had custody of the isoliner chips.

"I ordered that blood work be done up on Cadet Tillatix and the other female Cadets present at the crime scene," Kachiko told the lab tech. "You're going to want to get down there and collect those samples from the med techs."

"Understood, Sir." She turned and hurried off with the chips to go to the medical lab, and then to the forensics lab.

Now Kachiko looked at Savin, "Lieutenant Commander, I will make myself available to you for this investigation. I am an experienced Security Section Chief and investigator. Not to mention my unique access capabilities and ability to cut through bureaucratic bullshit."

Savin nodded, "I appreciate the help. This case has too much going on for being what it should be. Okay, the evidence."

The Medical Tricorder scans were brought up. The time stamp showed 1053 hours for the start of the recording. The scanners moved along the eight tents. For the four girls tents, there was three to a tent, except one which had two, and this one had M'Katerina there. The Seniors were up and about making the girls feel at home and making sure they had everything they needed, while StarFleet MPs were there taking statements. Next was shown the separate latrine areas, with skirting setup to allow for things to be private. As this was going on, the time stamp kept moving forward. At 1107 hours, Kachiko was now seen giving orders to Security. Right at 1110 hours, three shuttles landed with LEO's, forensics, and a Ranger.

Savin remarked in a low voice, "The team assembled at 0745 hours.. why is that time stamp showing 1053.. and when were you called in?"

"I have a feeling that we are going to have trouble from Admirals, Judges and other powerful people," Kachiko sighed.

Now the tricorder recordings moved to show the bandaged wounds on the two Seniors. First senior had claw marks on his right inner arm and inner hand. The second Senior had claw marks on his left inner thigh and along his left inner calf. Now the scene moved on to three trees out of camp past the tent where Sav was staying. At this tree there was some tufts of Mephetian hair along the bark at her tail height, and there was blood along the ground three feet back from the tree. Now the recording moved to the middle of the camp, showing the now long dead fire and the remains from brunch. Now the recording moved along the entire perimeter of the camp, showing nothing amiss. This included a certain tree that Kachiko had found evidence of Sav being bound at. In fact, one senior came over to talk with the two Medical students, so this tree was longer in the scans than the other, and showed no signs of a scuffle, other than footprints. The scene shifted to come over to a LEO, and then turned off as the Senior handed over his isolinear chips to the LEO.

"There's a lot missing," Kachiko arched an eyebrow. "Evidence I examined in my search for Tillatix."

The Lab-Tech, Samantha Dertryst, came running in to look for Savin. She came up to him, saying, "Sir, we have a problem. Somehow, Cadet Tillatix's blood got contaminated with a flourophenylmethic chemical binder.. umm, parts bonding glue. It is inadmissible for anything found. And, no blood samples have been collected from any of the girls yet. There was a sign off by a security officer, but he had done it on assurances by the Seniors, and, none are to be found. As it has been over 12 hours since the club...."

Savin took in a breath, then let it out. "Well, there goes that. So, have you heard back from.." Suddenly, there was a power lull, then surge, and several pieces of sensitive equipment decided to die. As the power stabilized, Savin rubbed his temples, then turned to look at Kachiko, his voice steely, as he said, "How much you want to bet that was your isolinear chips?"

"Probably," Kachiko remarked with a laugh, "Luckily for us, my equipment has a redundant second pair of chips."

"However, now we need to move. Gather up our evidence and relocate somewhere else, because I think that this laboratory has been compromised by 'interested parties.' Then we make copies and store the originals."

"I know just the place, too," Kachiko smirked, touching her jaw to activate the subdural communications implant, "Secure Three, Vice-Admiral Yu Xsin Chen. Authorization Bayushi Eight Three Uniform Tango One One Actuall. Scramble."

She quickly patched the channel to her commbadge, so Savin could hear and possibly even participate, then they heard, "Chen here, Captain."

"Admiral, ma'am, I'm here with Judge Advocate Savin O'Dell. We have had an incident regarding a number of Cadets, including Cadet Tillatix."

"Unfortunately, there were injuries and now we have suspicious circumstances of systemic equipment failures, suspiciously as if trying to corrupt digital evidence. I need to relocate the investigation to the Intelligence team room."

"Commander O'Dell," came the Vice-Admiral's voice. "I have a major investigation underway in which Cadet Tillatix is the victim of a very serious Capital crime. I must establish that this incident is not related to that and as such I must strongly request that you move where the Captain has indicated."

Savin believed the communication was one way via Kachiko, so he said, "Tell Vice-Admiral Chen I'm all for it. We need everything secure as this place obviously is not. I'll start packing as you secure the details and transport."

"I can hear you, Commander," came the woman's voice. "You have access to the facility. It is secure and absolutely disconnected from outside computer systems."

A small snort of humor escaped Savin. He replied, "Outstanding, on both fronts. Thank you for this. I sure hope the two are not related, but we shall find out." He looked at Kachiko, then back to the comm badge on her chest, and said, "Anything else, Sir, before we blow this Popsicle stand?"

"No, Commander. Please extract from your current location with due haste," the half-Vulcan requested.
