OK. Major Johnson and Lieutenant Mitchell have just left.
I have to admit that even though it was our idea to ask the Ships councillor if he (Maj Johnson) would like to come to our quarters to carry out my psychological evaluation, I still can't get the niggling thought out of my head that I should have simply waited to be summoned to his office.
On his arrival, the Major was accompanied by the Merlin's new councillor, who asked if he could sit in on the gathering, obviously we had no objections. In my opinion, the visit went very well, hardly an evaluation more a small, intimate, social gathering if you will ... Mackenzie and Mia were as good as gold, polite, friendly, once they had decided if they liked our guests or now, obviously, Lana was everything I could want, doing everything a good host would do to make her guests feel welcomed, despite her outward calm, she did have a moment of dire uncertainty, but this quickly passed and our 'get-together' continued unaffected. I'm sure that both Councillor's noted the minor glitch, but hopefully passed it off as nothing more than nervousness on Lana's part. After all, we're not used to holding gatherings at home, mainly due to my being away, and this was our first on the Merlin.
I wasn't surprised in the least that both Officer's engaged so easily with my Children, both were practically bombarded with questions but withstood the mini-interrogation, with a little help from a couple of glasses of wine maybe. Mia took to the Major and Lieutenant Mitchell, at one point as they were leaving she actually climbed onto the Major's knee as he stood up, practically forcing the man to pick her up, which for Mia is almost unheard of as while warm and friendly to those she deems safe to be around, she isn't the 'pick me up' type with anyone other than her Mother, Kenzi, or Myself.
I think Kenzi could have been a little more discrete by 'not' asking if Major Johnson was trying to grow a beard, and when he replied no she promptly informed him that he needed a shave and could borrow mine if his was broken. The comment had everyone in fits of laughter and obviously no harm was done.
Everyone agreed that we should invite both Officers to dine with us at some point, this time in a purely social setting rather than being under the proverbial microscope.
On checking the Duty logs, I am dot due on the Bridge until zero six hundred tomorrow, so I think after I've helped clear away, I'll head to the Gymnasium and Pool, if I can sneak away from the girls that is.
