Personal Log :: SD 239312.04 - 17:30 hrs ...
With our current mission now concluded, we are en-route to Starbase [TBC]
I had spent an hour in the Gymnasium after meeting with Major Johnson and Lieutenant Mitchell for his Psych' Evaluation, I needed the albeit brief workout and swim, not having realising earlier how I had worried about the meeting. Not much for myself, but I knew how Lana could get nervous about meeting new people, especially in the circumstances of their visit to the Tan quarters. Entering the ships social center, the Round Table as it was known, I ordered a drink.
I'd spoken to Lana on my way here asking if she wanted to join him for a drink, but she was with their Children and said he should go grab a drink while he had the free time to do so. I told her I would be home in an hour. At this time of day the Round Table was relatively quiet so no issue finding a table.
Once we arrive at the Starbase, the Merlin will undergo some much needed upgrades, including the installation of a brand new A/I Upgrade ... Several of the Bridge stations are to be refurbished while at the Starbase, not replaced, just some basic display and read-out upgrades, which will likely keep everyone busy during their duty hours. We have been informed that we could be docked for approximately fourteen days, a substantial amount of down-time for a active Star Ship, but the upgrades are by their nature, intricate, so time has been made ... During our time at the Starbase I intend to interact with more of the ship's Senior Staff, ideally on both an 'official' and 'social' basis. Lana too is eager to meet and even entertain my fellow Officers. Though she did flinch, albeit jokingly, when I suggested having the Captain and our Exec over for a meal. I have never visited this Starbase before, and while it is an orbital facility, Star Fleet retain a large community on the surface of the planet below which again allows opportunity to 'get away' so to speak.
I'm hoping, workload permitting, to be able to take Lana, Mackenzie, and Mia away for a couple of days during our layover. Lana has a school friend, Elise Macintire, lecturing at a Collage in a nearby System, and I intend to ask permission to make use of one of the Merlin's shuttle's. I'm sure Commander Barst, no, computer, amend that last to 'Captain' Barstow will be amiable to my request. It's early days, or rather, early hours since my evaluation and in some way I am eager to hear or read the Councillors' report.
On the whole, I feel I am settling into life on the Merlin, yes, we have still to encounter the unknown, but that will come I'm sure. As for the opinions of my Peers, that is to be determined ...
"Steward, could you get me another one of these please ?"
"Yes Sir."
Funny, but I don't think anyone ever tires of watching stars pass at warp speed, the elongated Suns streaming by like so many points of light on an infinite black black canvas. Even with Lana's boundless enthusiasm, I still had that niggling speck of doubt as to if I had made the right decision in retaining my Commission, but now my Family are here, those speks of doubt have been thoroughly extinguished.
