ON:

Hamish had gotten sent out of the science section of the Pegasus, he had been maintaining the transfer of some of the science projects he and Sansa had been working on. He though decided that he also needed to see about some dinner for him and Sansa. The meal acquired, along with a rose with the colours of flame in a small vase and drink, he arrived at their quarters.

The lights in the quarters were dimmed. From the bathroom came the sound of the shower running and someone sobbing.

Concerned with the lights dimmed and the sound of crying, Hamish placed the tray and food upon the table and went to investigate, his eyes filled with concern. His love was in distress. When he opened the door where he heard the sobs, a cloud of steam rolled out like a thick fog.

The air in the bathroom was heavy with steam. Sansa was sitting on the floor in the shower, leaning against the back wall her knees pulled up to her chest. Tears ran down her cheeks becoming lost in the spray of water from the shower.

He could feel his heart almost ready to break to see Sansa in distress, paying no heed to being fully clothed, Hamish stepped inside the shower and crouched down near her then moved to where his back was against the wall and wrapped his arms around her, to lift her up in his arms. "Come lass, let's get you out of here." standing up and carefully stepped out. He turned the water off while holding her close and headed into the main room.

"I can see him.... in the darkness... Every time I close my eyes... I can see him... falling..." She managed to get out between sobs.

Hamish had gotten several towels and began to towel her dry then wrapped her in a warm blanket. "Now love, have a sit." leading her over to the bed, then removed his soaked clothing and dried off, then slipped inside the bed beneath the blanket and pulled her close. "Sansa.. " kissing the top of her head as he cradled her. "in time the memory will fade away to where it doesn't sting as badly," he spoke softly, his eyes wet with tears of his own. " I can see that image as well, and also the flash of the nightmare of losing you." he swallowed hard, trying to ease the lump in his throat. "I was terrified, I couldn't bear to lose you, not at all."

Still shaking, Sansa pulled herself closer to him. "I couldn't bear to lose you either... it's just my life came at the expense of another. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "With Esme, we both agreed willingly but he didn't have a choice. I wanted to save him but... I wasn't strong enough...."

She looked up and wiped the tears from his eyes. "You saved me... You always save me....".

"And you saved me too, Sansa. You saved Esme, we have saved each other. We are so connected. Our fates and lives are so interconnected. If I lose you, I will surely die." he felt this rather strongly.

Sansa looked at him, slightly shocked for a moment at his words. Then she lent over and kissed him passionately. "I am yours, now and always." She said as she broke for air before she pushed him onto his back and climbed on top, straddling him.

Hamish smiled softly, then he said... "Lights out" then pulled her close.

Awhile later.....

Sansa stirred and opened her eyes. She had actually managed to sleep rather well, but that was probably because she was exhausted. Seeing Hamish lying next to her sleeping, she smiled, running her hand gently down his bare chest.

Suddenly, and unexpectedly, the door chime sounded.

"Just a second," Sansa called out as she got up and hastily put on a robe. She went into the main living area and opened the door. a young crewman was standing there. His eyes went wide, seeing her in a loosely tied robe.

He blushed "Excuse me miss Draxx-Jones, but there's someone here who is keen to see you." And with that, he held up a small brown bundle of fur wrapped in a blanket which immediately started to woof excitedly.

"Belle! There you are! Come here baby." She took the small pup off his hand and held her close as the small dog started to lick her face. "We haven't seen each other in a while. Thank you so much"

The crewman nodded and turned and left.

Sansa re-entered the bedroom. "Look who's turned up..." She said softly as she put belle on the bed next to Hamish. The pup started to sniff his hand before starting to lick his fingers playfully.

Hamish was still asleep when the door rang, and Sansa got out of bed.. however, the licking of his fingers was causing him to stir. He rolled over towards where Sansa would be lying, mumbled Morning sweetheart and placed a kiss where he thought Sansa was. Instead of her delectable lips, his lips met pillow and then a cold nose against his bare chest. His eyes flew open and he looked down at where Belle was at. "Oh.. hi there Belle." then he looked up at Sansa, " I think kissing your pillow is not as pleasant as kissing you," he stated.

"Well let's see about that shall we?" Sansa slid across the bed and taking Hamish's face in her hands, kissed him.

after an eternity, she pulled back "Well?"

"That most certainly was better." Hamish smiled warmly at Sansa, caressing her cheek and running his hand against her silken curls.

"Did I see some food when I went into the living area?" She asked with a smile. The little pup also barked "Sounds like this one is hungry too."

"Ah yes, food, something simple, hope you don't mind some pastries with juice or tea or coffee." he looked at Belle, " Don't worry we'll make certain you get something to eat as well." rising from the bed and slipping on a robe. "Which would you like? Tea, coffee, juice or me." giving a flirtatious wink towards Sansa.

Sansa grinned. “A pastry and Juice first, then you please, as I’m going to take my time with you.” She added with a sexy purr.

His eyes ran up and down Sansa's body, Hamish stepped in close and ran his fingers along her hair. "Of that, I've no doubt." placing a kiss of great promise upon her lips, "Let's get Belle her food and comfortably situated before we... commence." his eyes were afire with passion, "I still feel ever so blessed with you being here with me."

Sansa placed her hand on his, looking into his eyes with love. Hearing the mention of food, the little pup let out a woof. She let out a chuckle "We better get this one fed..."

Sansa then heard a voice "Are you going to tell him bout me?"

In the chair in the corner of the room, Sansa could see the young ensign who had been lost in the cargo bay, sitting, staring at her.

"You can't ignore me forever. You're going to have to deal with me being here, and I'm not going away. Part of you still feels responsible for my death and keeping those feelings locked up is not healthy. I know you can hear me..."

Sansa looked directly at the spectre and whispered loudly "Shut up and go away."

Hamish looked in the direction that Sansa was staring at, but saw nothing. "Uh Sansa, what is wrong? Are you wanting me to leave?" feeling rather confused at this point. "If you would like me to leave then I will do so." turning to go get his clothing back on after he had finished feeding Belle.

Sansa jumped up quickly and took his hand. “No my love, please stay. I wasn’t talking to you. I though… I saw something…” she added lamely, not wanting to divulge what or who she was actually seeing.

"Love what is wrong, tell me, please. You are seeing...." Hamish paused, his mind going back to what Sansa had sobbed out in the shower about the ensign. "Oh my darling..." he swept her into his arms. "Are ye seeing shadows of those who have passed on?" he knew what that was like.

Sansa started to shake in his arms. "I didn't want to say... you'd think I was losing my mind..." She look up at him, her eyes filling with tears and she lowered her voice to a whisper "He's sat watching me... I..... I... Don't know how to let him go... I feel... so ashamed.... so guilty..."

"Sansa... I told you to kick him off, I do understand your feelings." Hamish took in a deep breath, "I still have his image in my head as well. And... before we were reunited with Esme, I had her image in my head for many years. Dreaming of her death, over and over. Agonizing over what happened."

"But you were not responsible for Esme's death, in fact, some of her happiest memories were of the time you and she spent together and she had to sacrifice herself to save another..." her voice trailed off as she thought about what she had said.

Hamish looked her square in the eyes, "Sansa, if I didn't tell you to kick the ensign off, we would be dead, and this includes Esme. There was no way around it love. No way around it at all. To quote a phrase and it may sound trite, at that moment the needs of the many or the few outweighed the need of the one." he cringed at that quote realizing it sounded so cold. "Oh gosh that sounded so harsh," he mumbled. He looked away after that.

Sansa reached and gently turned his face back to her hers. "Nothing you say could ever sound harsh." She lent forward and kissed him deeply. "Thank you for being here for me. Can you just hold me? Please?"

Hamish's eyes met hers, and gave himself over to the kiss, when it was done he answered her softly. "I will be glad to." standing up then lifted her into his arms and carried her to the bed. "This will be more comfortable love, getting into the bed with her, and pulling her close. Willing to hold for however long Sansa needed.

Sansa felt safe in his arms.
