ON:
Having met the two new additions to the Tactical air group, Melody noticed that they had gained a new chief Intelligence officer just before the incident. "I think it's time we met the new Intelligence officer." She said to Mathias.
"We've been gaining some interesting new crew members, and I am liking this. I will agree that we do need to meet with him. Seems like we're rounding out our crew rather nicely." the redheaded newly appointed XO stated.
Melody tapped her comm badge "Lieutenant Grekas to report to the Observation lounge on the Pegasus."
Kailu had been getting himself orientated on the Pegasus, his second ship in as many days. His first day on the Merlin had hardly been ideal as he dropped right into a disaster which has now resulted in the ship needing heavy repair. As he thought about his decision to skip his leave before transfer he was brought back to reality as his name beckoned him to the Observation Lounge of the winged horse. "On my way." He replied simply and headed towards his destination.
It didn't take long, the perks of an undamaged ship, and he approached the lounge doors and walked through. He saw a red haired woman, whom he knew to be the Captain, and another redhead, who was now the XO. "Lt. Grekas, reporting as ordered."
Melody smiled as he entered "Ah yes, Have a seat Lieutenant. I'm sorry we couldn't greet you aboard the Merlin. I'm Captain Jones and this is Lieutenant McPhee. Did you manage to get settled in before the incident?"
Kailu took a seat as he listened to the Captain. He nodded to the XO, usually, Kailu was a man of few words. "I had come aboard via shuttle an hour before the filament hit. I had just placed my bag in my quarters at the time of the accident."
"Well, not the best way to start your new assignment but no one ever said Starfleet was easy," Melody said. "I've had a look over your service record, it says here you've been undercover for a long time and this will be your first posting onboard a starship since you resigned your commission in 2337. May I ask why you did that?"
Kailu shifted in his chair. "Are you asking me why I resigned my commission in 2337, or why I have chosen to leave undercover work, Captain?" He asked for clarity.
Melody raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
“Both.”
"I am interested in finding that out myself," Mathias commented with a smile.
Kailu nodded. "In 2337 I resigned my commission in protest of the wrongful imprisonment of my commanding officer, Captain Sovek of the USS Hawking. He was accused of being a Romulan spy when sensitive information was leaked from Starfleet databases and certain operations at the time were compromised." he paused for a moment for reflection. "I knew this to be a lie, I knew the man very well. Couldn't get more Vulcan. I investigated but was told to drop it after several dead ends. I refused and resigned. Took me 2 years to gather all the information I needed to exonerate him and get Sovek released." he said simply.
"As for leaving undercover roles. I have spent the last three and a half decades being other people. My spirits have told me that I need time to recover and find myself once again. Most do not know the mental and physical strain it takes to pretend and be someone you are not for months, if not years. It was deemed by Starfleet Medical that I was to be pulled from undercover, a break required due to the nature of the many identities I have taken over the years." Kailu summed up.
Melody nodded impressed. "Yes undercover work can carry a heavy toll, and your dedication to your former CO is very impressive and most commendable. I only hope I'm worthy of the same commitment," she added with a wry smile.
"As long as you do not commit espionage Captain." Kailu said in quite a deadpan like manner, but that was his way. Some could interpret it as his 'sense of humour', others thought he was just quite odd, but his loyalty to those that he trusted and knew well would always be without question. He had a somewhat stoic Klingon vibe about him, his honour was important to him, but still he could interpret that honour in many forms to get a job done. Victory and battle were all he had known for decades and not all of it on a battlefront.
"Oh, I think I handle those requirements," Melody replied with a wry smile. "Don't you, Number One?"
Mathias didn't answer as of yet, he was looking, really looking at Kailu. As if he were seeing beneath the man's surface. There was just something about the intelligence officer that piqued his interest. A sort of resonance from Kailu. Mathias in his mind, to him, felt as if a pebble had been dropped into the surface of a quiet pond and there was a ripple. Perhaps this new officer was supposed to be here, at this time. Realizing that he had been staring, with his blue, green, and gold colored eyes, Mathias gave a warm smile, then turned to Melody, "Yes Captain you certainly do."
"If you are wrongfully charged Captain, I will clear you. That you can count on." Kailu said in all seriousness. "I consider the crew a family of sorts, my tribe, and I protect my tribe against anyone who would do them harm. My spirits guide me to bring justice to those who bear ill will against us."
"The Spirits guide you..." Mathias mused quietly, "I am familiar with things guiding a person, arriving just at the right moment." he smiled. "I do look forward to getting to know you better, Lieutenant Grekas"
"As do I," added Melody. "We won't keep you from your duties any longer. Dismissed."
Kailu nodded. "Mhm." he grumbled and walked from the Observation Lounge with his usual slow swagger.
