The sun was starting to set and Sansa was still sitting on the bed holding Belle to her chest. Hamish had been gone all day and she was now starting to get worried.
Hamish had awoken, after having fallen asleep during his mid day meal. Stretching he looked around and didn't see where his lovely hostess was at. She had disappeared. Giving a shrug and feeling a bit more even tempered than he had earlier he set off back to the cabin at a brisk walk. He hadn't realized just how long he'd been out but the level of the sun which was drifting downward behind the trees told him it was late. He reached the cabin and opened the door.
Hearing the cabin door open, Sansa got up off the bed, carrying Belle with her. "Hamish? Is that you?" She called out hopefully
"Yes, it is," Hamish said, stepping inside and walking towards Sansa. "Sorry I got a bit occupied and fell asleep outside, " he said with a slight smile.
She approached him but stopped short, noticing some crumbs on the corner of his mouth and down the front of his shirt. "I'll put some supper on." She said quietly, putting Belle down and heading for the kitchen. There was now a gulf between them and she didn't know where to begin.
"Is there something wrong?" Hamish put up his hand discovering that he had something on his five o clock shadow, crumbs that he didn't realize were there. This included some crumbs he had on his shirt. "I'll go get cleaned up for supper," Hamish added, deciding he needed a shower. catching the scent of wine and a slight stain of the wine on his shirt as well.
"I'll be back out, won't take me too long to get cleaned up, my darling." Hamish gave a slight smile. He thought was getting the sense, well just how Sansa was acting, there was still something wrong. He wasn't certain what it was, though, she had been jealous as to where Aurae was concerned. When he thought of the woman, he could feel a pick up of his pulse.
A quiet voice could be heard that Sansa could only hear it was Aurae's voice Did you know he is infatuated with me? He is finding himself torn between two lovers... What do you have that I haven't got? You are but a younger woman whilst I, I have more experience and can make him feel more of a man...
The anger that Sansa had felt earlier was starting to build again but she was doing her best to keep a tight lid on it this time. She prepared two bowls of a hearty stew that she had prepared earlier and sat down at the table, waiting for Hamish to return. Little did she know that a voice was also whispering words of poison in Hamish's ears as well while he showered.
She knows you lied to her but she's been keeping things from you too. She scolds you while she's been fantasising about other men. She's jealous of what you have. She wants to break you... She might have even put something in your food....."
Hamish groaned silently as he turned the warm shower into an ice bath. What was happening to him? Was it the food he had eaten? Was it Ba'ku? He was hearing Aurae's voice in his head. How could this be, he curled up a fist and slammed the side of his fist into the side of the shower. Sansa was acting odd. And could what the voice said be true? This had to be all in his mind. He shut the shower off and towelled himself dry, got clean clothing on, and then headed out to where Sansa was at.
When Hamish re-entered the dining room, Sansa didn’t even look up from her bowl, nor did she even give him chance to sit. She kept her voice low but there was a quiet fury bubbling just beneath the surface. “You were with her weren’t you? Don’t insult me by denying it. You prefer her now, is that it?”
"So what if I were with her? All we did was eat and drink, she helped me cool down from what happened earlier. I couldn't understand why you went off on me. Was it cause I don't want kids right now? I know you are baby hungry but, now isn't the time!" his voice raising slightly. He moved to sit down once more, then looked at the stew she had dished up, and he refrained from sitting down. Then Hamish shook his head, Sansa would not have poisoned his food. She wasn't like that. Taking in a breath he sat down and picked up his spoon dipping it into the stew.
The other voice whispered in her head once again. That's right, he wants me to bear his children, not you. I can offer him so much more.... and he's told me all your secrets. He has betrayed you.
For a moment, Sansa was too shocked to speak. The spoon in her hand, which had paused halfway to her mouth started to tremble.
Fire flashed in her eyes as the colour drained from her cheeks.
It took all her self-control not to pick up the bowl in front of her and throw it at his head. The spoon suddenly clattered to the table and she stood. She kept her voice low. She could not bring herself to look at him as she knew she would crumble and burst into tears.
"I've suddenly lost my appetite. I'm going to bed." She picked up Belle who whimpered slightly as if sensing Sansa's mood. Still not looking at Hamish she added in a deadly tone "DO NOT follow me. You can sleep on the sofa."
And with that, she walked into the bedroom, closing the door behind her.
Hamish watched as Sansa left, shocked, he didn't know what was going on, were they becoming insane? He picked up her bowl and his bowl as well, emptied the stew into the waste bin and put away what was left of the stew. He was feeling tired, turning off the lights he went to the sofa to stretch out. He could not sleep, looking towards the bedroom door where Sansa was probably crying her eyes out. Or plotting his murder. He sat up, shaking that awful notion. Sansa wasn't the sort of person who would kill him. Maybe hurt him but take his life? Never..
He paused as he thought he heard some music coming from somewhere outside, Much like the pipes that Mathias would play, then he heard some singing. He rose from the sofa, and walked to the cabin door, opening it. The silvery light of the moon bathed the living room in an ethereal glow, Hamish felt dizzy and his hand steadied him against the door frame.
Come Hamish, come out to play. Aurae's voice could be heard. He felt strange, things were almost in a double vision, colours and hues he'd not seen before. Feeling rather drunk he stumbled out of the cabin, closing the door behind him. He didn't want anything to happen to.. Sansa... What was that upon the lake, could it be the lady of the lake, who had given Excalibur to King Arthur? Hamish couldn't tell, he had to get closer and go out on the dock, the end of the dock he stripped off his clothing, feeling rather warm, and dove into the lake.
"I knew you'd come..." The voice came from Aurae who stood at the water's edge. Her nightgown fell from her body, leaving her naked as she calmly entered the water and approached Hamish. She smiled enchantingly at him "I have such wonders to show you." She whispered as she wrapped her arms around him, pulling her body into his as her skin started to glow...
Hamish took a breath feeling the contact of Aurae against him. He pulled her closer and gave her a kiss and they disappeared beneath the surface of the lake, leaving nothing but a slight ripple, was it a fin that was seen?
Meanwhile, back in the cabin, Sansa had not heard Hamish leave. The sound of his departure had been drowned out by her sobbing into her pillow as she contemplated a future without Hamish, a future that was also devoid of happiness and love.
