ON:

Doctor Kingston entered the main research area from his private office. "What exactly is so important that I need to be disturbed?"

The other scientists in the lab were all moving about frantically, clearly troubled by something. The Doctor looked around confused. "Why is everyone so rattled?"

His assistant, a young woman named Jayne Smith, reported from one of the consoles "Sir, A Klingon bird of prey just decloaked 100 meters from the station and they've locked their disruptors on us. I've already raised our shields but at this range..."

The Doctor swore under his breath. Usually, the Klingons were more discreet in their dealings and he was not looking forward to explaining his arrangement with them to the other scientists. They were.... uncomfortable getting their resources from outside official Federation channels, and if the Klingons said anything, it could cause unwanted questions.

He took a deep breath and held up his hands, trying to bring some calm to the situation. "Everyone just relax. Look, I know these Klingons, I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding. Open hailing frequencies."

That statement had caused more than a few glances between the other scientists but now was not the time for questions.

"They're jamming all our communication channels Doctor!" Jayne reported, becoming more alarmed. "Wait they're sending a signal. What the Hell?" Her alarm jumped up to panic levels "Doctor, they're using station command codes to lower our shields, they've also activated the docking rig and are approaching. They're going to board us!"

"What? Whose command codes are they using? The Doctor asked but a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach was already telling him the answer.

Jayne's face went white. "Oh God, they're using Doctor Fowler's codes! They must have captured him."

"Yes.... They must have...." The doctor repeated, not totally convinced. "Initiate station lockdown protocol. They can only be after one thing and they must not get their hands on them."

"But Doctor.... "she replied her voice shaky, her hands trembling.

"Pull yourself together!" He yelled at her "We have to prevent our research falling into the wrong hands. Do you know what kind of damage they could do? And it would be on our heads!"

"Yes, Doctor." She managed to reply as she tried to calm herself. "They've overridden the seal on the airlock."

"Give me a visual. " He said, sitting down at the console next to her. On it, the corridor outside the airlock now appeared as it slid open revealing 10 heavily armed Klingons, including Klagg who looked up directly into the security sensor and sneered as if he knew who was watching him before aiming his disruptor and the image was replaced by static.

"They know where the security feeds are. They're heading for the containment area.

Doctor Kingston sighed, this was getting out of hand, but, they still could prevent the Klingons from getting what they came for. "Release the gas."

Jayned turned to him, unsure she had heard him correctly. "Sir?"

"Do it." he replied quietly, knowing full well it would end the lives of all the specimens, as well as the Klingons.

Resigned to the inevitable, she turned back and started entering commands. "Sir! The release valves are not responding. They've blocked our commands. How are they doing this? What has Doctor Folwer told them?

Kingston sank back in his chair. "Too much."

"She turned back to the monitor "Sir they've breached Containment, they have them."

"Damn!"

"Wait a minute. Five Klingons have broken off and are heading up here. Why are they coming up here?" She turned to him puzzled.

"I get the feeling that no witnesses are allowed..." He replied as he locked eyes with her for a moment, terror filling her face and she knew what was going to happen.

Her hands came up to her face. "Doctor..... No...."

"Quickly we don't have any time. Get to the escape pods..." He shouted as he started encrypting their research files. "Go Now!"

The other scientists and his assistant looked at each other and had barely started to move when the doors to the lab exploded debris rained down around them. Everyone was knocked off their feet as Docotor Kingston dived down, quickly opened a hatch and ducked into the service tunnel, closing it behind him. Through the hatch, he could hear screams and disruptor blasts.

He paused as he listened to the horrible noises coming from the lab. Weeping, he asked himself quietly "My God, what have I done?" before he turned and fled down the narrow tunnel.
