ON:

Caroline stayed behind the briefing and let the Commander lead her to his office. It was the first time she had ever been to his office but he had ordered her there.

She waited patiently for the younger officer to speak.

"Doctor, can I get you something?" Cale asked.

"No thank you," Caroline replied. She was not thirsty having had some coffee in the previous meeting.

"Can you tell me the status of the bio-pods we recovered from the site?"

"There was limited power left in them and engineering did not have time to find an alternative power source," she told him. "The occupants, we couldn't get much of a sensor read from the materials of it. Like I said earlier we had to take them out of the pods and try sedate them. Now we have our sensors working, we are learning a lot of interesting things about their biology compared to the Vulcans and Romulan's."

"That's most interesting. Go on please," Llewellyn said with a smile and an inquisitive look.

"Well from an endocrine point of view," Caroline said excitably, "Preliminary analysis shows a completely different hormone makeup. Some of the hormones that the Vulcans struggle with when they go into Pon farr today, its there in spades with this species. There resting levels are what a Vulcan today would only have during the very peak of them mating. So yes the stories of the ancient Vulcans and Romulan race is true. Much more aggressive. Evolution must have wheedled these levels back. It would be fascinating to try study it further but without cell specimens from the years in-between we would never be able to piece together how it happened."

"This is great work, Doctor. I'm impressed with how much you've been able to piece together in such a short time. What else can you tell me about them?" Cale asked like a kid in a candy store. He was truly intrigued by these people's make up...both genetically and physically.

"Not much more," Caroline stated. "But I can send you a further report as soon as we have had time to get the rest of the data ready. Commander. Have you determined who took the last pod? Who attacked us? I am wondering if the baby was in that pod."

"If the female ever wakes up she will need to know the fate of her offspring. And worse, if they wake the occupant up and its a child. Can you imagine. Out of time, stronger than any Vulcan or Romulan here. They could torture or do genetic tests on that baby. I should have been faster. We should have got all four. I am so sorry. I messed up."

"No, don't think that way, Doctor. We didn't have all that much time and we were under fire. We did what we could do considering the circumstances. Anything else I should know?"

"No nothing more," Caroline told him.

"Well that's that then. Thank you Doctor," he said while rising from his chair. "I'm sure they're wondering where you are, Dr, Miller. Get back to Sickbay then.
