Old, New Ship

After 5 years of teaching at the Academy and recovering from injuries sustained while aboard the Merlin newly minted Lieutenant Commander John "Apollo" Barstow returns, this time as her commander. The ship currently sits in space undergoing final upgrades and repair. After a year she is now ready for her crew and new mission.

Merlins first mission will be to run through her paces at a nearby test site. First up maneuvering tests, then weapons, sensors, fighters and then a quick mock mission for the crew to get used to working together. However, this mission becomes anything but quick when an asteroid is discovered with a power source resembling Romulan power signatures. The area is supposed to be completely uninhabited, so, the crew must jump in head first and investigate.

The mission is supposed to be quick and simple, and this is only a minor snag. Instigating should be simple, what could possibly go wrong?
