Sav finally drifted to sleep. With her and Melody in each other's bodies, it was hard to do. Still, the shock and revelation of being in a different body, besides trying to acclimate, was tense and exhaustive, so out Sav went.
She drifted, then opened her dream mind onto stepping out of a rock outcropping and onto a beach. It was rather pretty, even though rather sparsely inhabited. The sands, water, and breeze felt like something Melody had told her about one of her reoccurring dreams. Well, it wasn't one of Sav's dreams, but, something she was picking up from Melody's brain, so she might as well explore and hope nothing borg happened during this dream.
Victoria Jones sat on the bench near the beach waiting for her daughter to arrive. She had not managed to communicate with her for some time and things were happening that had forced her to accelerate her timetable to get Melody to help them.
She was going to have to explain more to her in a shorter space of time.
A small table with an elaborate tea set sat next to her. She picked up her book and was about to open it when she stopped. A female Mephetian was walking on the beach looking rather confused. She was wearing a Starfleet uniform. Victoria knew immediately that she was not meant to be there. She put her book down and rose, walking quickly over to the stranger.
She grabbed her arm and hissed in a low voice. "Who are you? You're not meant to be here? Where is my daughter?"
Sav looked very confused as the Terran lady grabbed her arm. In doing so, Sav noticed that even though in Melody's body, and in Melody's dream, Sav dream self was still of her Mephetian form. She almost breathed out in relief, but there was still the matter of one of Melody's dream ladies not liking her in this form. She replied, "Lieutenant Save'ena Tillatix, I cannot help but be here, and she is in my body and thus my dreams while I am in her body and thus her dreams?"
When she heard her name, Victoria's demeanor instantly changed. She let go of her arm and smiled warmly at her "You're Save'ena! Well then...... Its a pleasure to meet you. So you're the one who my daughter is so taken with." She embraced her in a very motherly hug.
Sav grew even more confused. "You're.. her mother? She dreams about you? And.. yeah, kindof, I think."
Victoria realized her and her face suddenly blanched as she realized she might have said something that Melody had not. "Oh please tell me Melody told you how she feels. She does tend to bottle things up inside. She gets that from her father. He does that all the time. It's like getting blood from a stone sometimes getting him to talk......"
And, with her Mother going on and on, Sav realized where Melody and her perchance to keep going in talking was from. She waited it out.
Realizing she was waffling slightly, Victoria gestured to the bench, saying "Please, join me."
Sav snorted out in light humor, then churred out a, "Sure.." for Melody's mom.
Victoria moved back to the bench and sat down. "Now then, how did you come to be here?" Victoria asked as she started pouring two cups of tea.
Sav looked on as Melody's mom poured her a cup of tea. She smiled as she waited, saying, "Well, first, can I know your name? Unless you don't mind me calling you mom as well. Next, I am here because I'm dreaming in Melody's body. We had a transporter mishap where I am in her body, and she is in mine." Sav blushed as she looked down at her fur, "I am just glad my dreamself is still who I am."
She handed a cup to Save'ena. "Why certainly. My name is Victoria. A transporter mishap you say? I never liked those thing you know. Give me a shuttle anytime. Mind you" she went on "Not if Alex..... That's my husband by the way. Not if he was at the helm. Always so fast. And pulling off such complex and risky maneuvers. I do hope my daughter is slightly more sensible. Is she alright?"
Sav churred gently, "Glad to meet you, Victoria, Melody's Mom. And... Alex is her dad, got it." Sav shook her head gently, "And, Victoria, we both love to fly and push craft to their limits. So, your talking to a friend of your Daughter who would get along with your Husband very well. As far as alright, yeah, I guess, other than being in my body right now."
Sav blushed, "Oh, shoot, she is in my body. I sure hope she is having pleasant dreams. My dreams usually end up rather bad nightmares." Sav sighed again, then took a sip of the Tea. She frowned, then said, "There is more going on here than a dream. I can taste this, I can smell you, the Ocean breeze carries various scents, none of which I have smelled or tasted before." She looked at Victoria with a raised eyebrow, "Tell me why."
Victoria shifted in her seat slightly uncomfortably, then set her cup down. "No, you're right. This is not a dream. Tell me, has Melody told you what happened to us? Have you ever heard of Unimatrix zero?"
Sav nodded, "Yes and no. Yes, she told me what happened, and her last memories were of Alex and you being absorbed by the borg as she was placed in a growth chamber, and no, I have not heard of Unimatrix Zero. So, can you say what it is?"
Victoria wiped a tear away that had formed on her face at those memories. She went on, gesturing with her hands. "All of this is an artificially created environment some of us come to when we regenerate. We don't know how or why. The first version of Unimatrix zero was destroyed. Shortly afterwards the central Unicomplex was also destroyed and this version appeared. The destruction of the Unicomplex has also fractured the collective. Our ship was quite far from the central nexus hub when this happened and our link to the rest of the collective has been severed, however something........ terrible has happened" A dark look came over her face and her whole body shivered.
At first, an understanding look came over Sav's face with the explanation of the Unimatrix environment. As Melody had once been a part of that collective, even if just pre-absorb phase as she needed to grow into adulthood, with some of the implants still inside, Melody would be linked subspace wise to the Unimatrix, without realizing it. And, as she was not part of the 'Will' of this faction, she was not known except by those emotionally linked, as in her Mother and Father.
However, with the last, Sav looked confused as what Victoria said could be either about the Borg, or about their particular circumstance. She reached over a hand to place onto Victoria's, then asked, "Terrible, as in Collective, or as in your faction?"
Victoria continued in hushed tones "The collective 'Will' aboard our ship has become.... something darker. I know the Borg were never Sweet and innocent to begin with but this......... This is beyond horrific. We have no control over it. Driven by vengeance, hatred......." She placed a hand on Sav's arm, her face had turned white.
Sav nodded, recognizing the grave danger to both their daughter, and to them. "You need to warn Melody so that something can be done about it. She is in a unique place as she is linked to you emotionally, but cannot be seen by your particular faction. Starfleet needs to stop this, and maybe, just maybe, rescue you." Sav thought for a second, "My brain in my body is designed around compartments as my race is psionic. My presence has retained that, for now. Is there any information you can give me, any hints for where you are at? Even a look at the space around you can be correlated for where you are? Could you take a look, and let it be seen here so I can see?"
Victoria shook her head. "Just prior to the destruction of the original Unimatrix Zero, a virus was released that allowed drones to regain their individuality in the real world. Unfortunately that has not occurred this time. I know our situation is getting worse, and hence why I am risking discover to communicate with Melody. As to our exact position I'm not sure but I might be able to find out. I'm sorry, but I feel like I'm placing a heavy burden on you Save'ena." Victoria looked at her with sympathetic eyes. "We cannot go on like this so either we are freed from the collective or......
She took a deep breath and looked Save'ena straight in the face "... Our ship must be destroyed."
Sav swallowed a lump that had formed in her throat. Melody was getting so close to possibly getting her parents back, only to possibly have them taken from her. Then again, wrong way of thinking. She took Victoria in a hug, "No, no, you will be freed from the collective, one way or the other, and Melody can rest easy in either way with closure."
Victoria sighed "That will be trickier, but you are right. Melody has had to live with loosing us once."
Sav drew back from Victoria. She looked intently at her, "First, on your exact position, you don't really need to find out. You only need to look out a viewing port into space and let me see it by the stars above us. Heck, as all drones are linked, several could be looking out now and we could get several aspects which would make our job easier on knowing where you are."
Victoria shook her head "Not here. Here, our thoughts are our own. One little bit of privacy. As for our position I can find out, but it will take some time. Retaining knowledge from when we are not regenerating is possible, but not easy."
Sav looked down at the table, then back up to Victoria. "The next part is much harder. You talked about a Virus. Do you have any information about it? If not, can you get it? If we can replicate the virus, or have the info, we will get it aboard your vessel, one way or another."
"That I'm afraid I cannot help you with. If the collective had any information on it, it must have been lost. However I do believe a Starfleet crew was responsible for the virus so you might have more luck in finding information."
Victoria turned her head suddenly as if she heard something. She then turned back to Save'ena "You're going to wake up in a moment." She reached out and took her hand. "Please. You have to tell Melody but don't tell her that she might have to kill us in order to save us. I didn't want to have to tell her that. I don't think I could take the look on her face."
Sav squeezed Victoria's hands. "Not to worry, I will let her come to that conclusion herself if there is no other alternative. Trust me, we will only do that as a last resort, but recognize it must be done." Sav closed her eyes and willed the communications terminated from the implant. The scene faded and Sav found herself opening her eyes. Yup, she was back in her quarters.
"Computer, where's the XO?"
=/\= Commander Jones is in the CAG Quarters on deck 2.=/\=
Sav brought a hand up to her face as she said an out loud "OIFF". She now said, "Computer, where is the CAG?"
=/\= Lieutenant Tillatix is with the Librarian Mr. Carson =/\=
Snorting out in light humor, Sav responded, "Thank you computer."
Sav Mind/Melody Body strode out of Sav's room to look for Melody Mind/Sav Body.
