The Mephetian Merchant Marine Officer, soon to be a Cadet at StarFleet Academy, had a bench all to herself. For the most part, it was due to her having to sit in a way to allow room for her rather luxurious tail. Passenger seats on these Terran transports were designed for tailless creatures, such as themselves. In the other part, across from her in the other two seats, were her duty packs. And, to tell the truth, she did not mind as it left her alone to her thoughts and also prevented the usual suspect questions of how she compared to the Terran Skunk, especially as she was now on Earth, their home planet.
Of course, everything she was expecting was based on actions and reactions to her on the Colony world Apollonia and on her ride over on the passenger liner. Still, those were the only frames of reference she had, and so those predicated her expectations. Many passengers on the tram were giving her space because she was not seeking anybody out to chat with as she was not making eye contact with anyone, and that her double seat was taken up by herself and her tail while the seats across had her personal bags.
Sav saw the pretty buildings and parkways go by the windows, happy at seeing nature intruding into the modern facade of the area the tram was traveling through. She thought back to the immigration entry into San Fransisco from the shuttles docking at the space port. All in all, it had been rather quick and easy. After having dealt with Apollonia just to get off world, and needing the Marshall service to get involved, she was truly expecting the same treatment here as well and was pleasantly surprised to find that had not been the case.
What Sav did not know about was that by leaving Apollonia and going into the core systems of the Federation, she would be out of the reach of monitoring and plots by the Apollonia Rep who had bought her pelt for Five Meg as well as Aristocrat Thompson. The two with their assistants had paid brides as well as had standing orders to trump any plans for Sav to leave planet. They had not been prepared for the Federation Patrol Ship that came by with the Acceptance Letter to the Academy, had not been prepared for that ship to give Sav the entrance exam tests, and had not been prepared for Sav to pass and take up the offer to leave the planet. Thus, Diostros and Thompson recognized this battle could not be won and therefore relented to their cronies they had to let Sav leave Apollonia. They would have to bide their time and hope she washed out of the Academy to return to their plotting to get Sav's 'pelt' for Diostros' bedspread.
Real life intruded upon Sav's thoughts as her ears shifted to listen to a couple of discreet inhales of breath from nearby riders. This only brought out a small 'hrmm' from her as this had been expected. No words or questions by those individuals was not expected. Pleasantly surprised by no approaches, she flicked her tail while a light churr left her chest as she once more fully engrossed herself into the scenery passing by. She did not hear, or at least did not have any recognition to, the surprised and pleasant muttering within the car about the churring and its affect on fellow passengers, and all in a good way.
Her attention quickened as her churrs became more evident. Up ahead was water, and across that water was the StarFleet Academy, looking resplendent in the afternoon sunlight. She wondered if she was by herself as a cadet due to the late hour, especially as she was at the whims of the Starliner coming in, or if she was on an off day coming in. Whatever the reason, she had not seen any other cadets in her car when she had come on board.
Sav did not know there were other cadets on the tram, but they took up the first two tram cars, while she was on the fifth. As she was in civilian garb, and not cadet garb, no one was the wiser that the young, 17 year old looking alien, with a rather large and pronounced tail, was bound for the Academy after having passed all entrance exam tests in what seemed so long ago on Apollonia.
She began shifting in her seat, looking forward to the Tram stopping at the Presidio West Transit Station, which was past the Starfleet Academy Transit Station. She had been told to not get off at that first Academy Stop. The Starfleet Academy Transit Station was for the Academic buildings. The administrative buildings for checking in and the student housing buildings were all by the Presidio West Transit Station. She glanced up at the information display and saw one more stop to let people off before the Tram went on its way across the water to the Academy.
At seeing her excitement at seeing StarFleet Academy across the water, many passengers breathed easier. It was one thing to have an alien on board that you knew nothing about and so to keep a constant wariness about oneself, it was quite another to find that same Alien going to the Prestigious StarFleet Academy, which meant similar ideals and thinking, and thus allowing for a less or even relaxed attitude towards her and her reactions.
This same quieting in the air of the car, as well as hormonal pheromones lessening, allowed Sav to relax from their constant bombardment upon her senses. She smiled broadly, naturally, for the first time that day. Things were looking up and she looked forward to starting her new adventure, one with a Starfleet that was NOT like what she had left, or at least, that is what she would hope for and believe in by what she was feeling, seeing, and from Marshall Kenathau's words. It was a new start, at a new place, with new experiences, all for hope of a better future.
