Wolf opened his eyes with a groan as the light from the sun cresting over the horizon hit his face, the warmth immediately filling him. The Marine blinked the sleep from his eyes and rubbed his face with both hands as he sat up on the wood a leaf bed he'd constructed on his arrival to this strange place. As near as he could tell it had been at least four months, if not longer, since he woke up face down on forest floor. His last clear memory was being transported back from the planets surface with the away team. The Merlin had been in orbit of a strange planet and he had gone down to help with first contact. The inhabitants had claimed to be descendants of the Merlin crew and that the ship had crashed there just over a hundred years before. The away team had returned to the ship and then his memory went black. Johnson had tried to make contact to no avail and had to assume either the ship crashed or someone had intercepted the transport at the last second, either way the ship was no longer near by.

Given that inarguable assumption his survival training took over. Richard had surveyed the plant and animal life and came to the conclusion it was not the same planet they'd been to, nor was it Earth. He recognized one or two species of animals, one resembling a frying squirrel and one resembling a giant lizard. The Marine had trudged through the thick forest for days before coming to a small lake with a beach. He decided that would be the best place to set up a camp - it was close to water, had a clearing where he could make a shelter and had several game trails leading to the waters edge meaning there were animals visiting regularly. So, he had built a one room shack on stilts of bamboo that blended in with the tree line. The roof was thatched palm leaves and the framing bamboo tied together with a mixture of vines and braided tree bark (that formed rope). He also constructed a ladder he could pull up into the tree house during the night time. The room had one window, facing out over the lake, and the only access was in the floor. To keep predators at bay he had gotten a tiger like creatures urine and dowsed the area around the tree houses legs with it, effectively marking his territory and covering up his own presence.

"Yes, I know, Spalding, breakfast time, just give a minute to wake up, would ya?" he said and looked over to a ball that was sitting on it's own soft bed, "you get so pushy in the morning," he added with a chuckled and stood.

He grabbed what was left of his tattered pants and pulled them on before looking out the window and taking in a deep breath, the sweet smells of dew and flowers filling his lungs. He leaned forward on the window seal and looked over the beach, "got it," he said with a grin as he spotted a deer like creature.

Wolf grabbed his homemade bow and arrows then moved back to the window. He pulled back on the string made from tree bark and took deep, slow breaths. The Marine let the arrow fly and hit the deer. The animal let out a quick, frightened yell before dropping to the dirt. Johnson grinned and rushed over to the hatch and put the ladder down, "ok, Spalding, I'll be back in thirty minutes, you get the fire started....and I really mean do it this time, I'm tired of you just sitting on your ass and acting like you can't move," he said then hurried down the ladder.....
