As ordered, Saren went to Sickbay after meeting with the Captain and XO. He didn't think there was anything wrong, so he went to where he thought there wouldn't be any staff, the Merlin's sickbay. That was he could say he went to sickbay, without lying, and also miss the exam. His theory on there being no one in the Merlin's sickbay was wrong however.
Michael had been settling in to his new office. Well, he might be hard pressed to call it an office. The entire Sick Bay was under renovation and Michael had to admit that Cara was doing a great job managing the installation of everything. He was setting up his meditation corner when he heard the doors to the Sick Bay open. Glancing at who was walking in Michael left his office. "Good Day Lieutenant. Please excuse the appearance of Sick Bay as we undergo some much needed upgrades. I am Dr Michael Ki, is there anything that I can do for you?"
"I wound up on the wrong end of someone's fist", Saren answered. "I tried to tell the Captain and XO that I was fine, but they insisted I come to sickbay. I really don't want to waste your time."
Michael smiled, and even gave a little chuckle. "It will be no problem getting that fixed up. Have a seat on one of the bio beds." The doctor motioned toward the beds as he retrieved a standard medical kit.
Saren did as instructed but said, "I am sure I am fine. We got worse in the Academy on Romulus. One must learn to work through a broken bone or two."
Saren sighed and Ki could easily tell the Romulan did not want to be there.
Michael got the dermal regenerator and began to treat the bruise that had developed from the punch. “One can never be too careful especially when hit in the head.” After a brief pause he continued to speak. “Listen, I am not sure why but most officers do not want to be in Sick Bay. If you had a issue with one of the sensor arrays would you not call for engineering to help have a look at it. Well this is basically the same, when you have an issue with the body you need to call us to have a look. Believe me when I tell you I would rather sit in this office and do nothing, than deal with patients. But it is a part of both of our jobs so we should both get used to it.” Michael smiled warmly at his joke.
"If we are in Sickbay, then we are not being productive", Saren said. "but your comparison is noted."
He paused and then in a almost-Vulcan like manner he asked, "If you would rather not deal with patients, why not move into medical research? I know that retiring from the Romulan Navy to work for a research institution was one of the better moves in my career."
"Dealing with patients is part of the job no matter where I go. I am a Diagnostician by training. I seek to cure the incurable. In truth I did not mean to say that I did not want to deal with patients. What I meant was that I would prefer to have an uneventful day where no one is sick or injured. At least one, for that would be the greatest present that anyone could give to me." When Michael had finished speaking, he had also finished clearing up the bruise. "There Lieutenant right as rain."
Saren looked at the doctor and said, "Thank you doctor."
With that, Saren got up and left the sickbay.
