Kyhl was just settling into her office and looking over the latest reports to get up to speed with current affairs. Thankfully the notes and charts were very detailed and thorough.
She was so engrossed in trying to catch up with everything that she didn't notice that someone was now standing in the doorway.
"Hello," Caroline said. "The captain mentioned a new CMO was imminent. I assume that's yourself?"
Kyhl jumped with a start, she didn't realize someone was so close! "Yes. Yes, that's me." She placed her hand on her chest and chuckled. "Sorry, you startled me a little."
Standing up and moving from behind the desk, Kyhl walked around to greet the woman in the doorway. "I'm Kyhl Ch'rehron. You must be Doctor Miller. It's a pleasure to meet you."
Kyhl offered her hand to the woman and smiled warmly. "I was hoping you'd take the time to drop by."
"Well I wasn't expecting to give up that desk so soon but actually now I'm relieved. Its been a hard few days trying to cover both roles," Caroline said with a smile. "Do you like coffee doctor?"
Kyhl laughed. "Like is not a strong enough word. Would you care to join me for a cup?"
"Oh yes please," Caroline said. "A double mochaccino please. So," she asked as the other woman went to the replicator. "How do you like the Merlin? Was your trip over uneventful?"
"So far so good." Kyhl said as the cups materialized before her. She took them up and gave one to Doctor Miller. "Truthfully, I haven't seen much yet. I wanted to get right down to business."
Kyhl sat down in one of the chairs in front of the desk, she didn't want to have it between Doctor Miller and herself anyways. "This ship is so much larger than my last posting. I'm almost afraid I'll get lost going back to my quarters at the end of shift." She took a sip of coffee and smiled.
"Is there anything you can tell me about this current mission and what we could expect for sickbay? Commander Jones gave me an overview but I'm curious about your take on things as a fellow doctor."
“Truthfully I don’t know a whole lot except there’s whales involved and it’s connected to an incident from my academy history studies.
In terms of sickbay, your pretty well stocked staff wise, you have an extra pair of hands in me, I have retained my medical license so if you need me shout up. Of course you will find your own groove for running things. I have an interest in herbal remedies as well as regular medicine and have some hydroponics in one of the science bays I use,” the blonde told her.
“I synchronised our two separate departments having briefings While I was running both departments. If you feel keeping that will help let’s keep the format,” she suggested.
Kyhl smiled. "I don't plan on rocking the ship too much on my first day. Let's keep things as you have set up for now and we'll adjust as needed as we move forward."
Khyl paused for a moment and thought back to the academy. History hadn't been one of her strong points. She'd have to access the computers and do some research.
"Thank you for the offer Doctor. Your experience and insight will always be welcome in sickbay." Kyhl sipped her coffee and smiled.
"No problem. Can I keep my herbal garden?" she asked. Not all doctors had that interest.
Kyhl’s eyes widened. "Herbal garden? Medicinal or edible?" She winked and then recomposed herself.
"Of course Doctor, I'd be interested to see what you have growing and possibly join in if you'd let me." Kyhl smiled warmly. "I'm not as well versed in herbal remedies as I would like. It's not really a big topic at the Andorian Medical College."
Caroline was happily surprised. "Definitely. Well Im due to do some upkeep tonmororw. Your very welcome to join me. I think my vulcan rosetta is ready."
"Vulcan rosetta? How very logical." Kyhl said with a smirk. "I may have to requisition some deep sea andorian kelp."
"So Doctor, when were the last crew evaluations complete?" Kyhl sipped her coffee. "I'd rather not put the crew through another round of evaluations just because I'm new."
"Id say we are about midway through," Caroline said honestly. "We always seem to be midway through. Its ongoing evaluations."
Kyhl chuckled. "As usual. We had that same problem on my last ship. Between constant transfers and standard medical procedures and departmental requirements, it seems like a never ending battle to keep a crew healthy and their files up to date."
Placing her coffee cup on the desk, Kyhl rested her hands on her lap. "On a bit of a more personal note, I understand you're staying on as chief councilor. I'll have to book some appointments with you myself sooner or later."
"Actually I never left the Chief counsellor role," Caroline said. "As Dr Ki got pulled away suddenly, my prior experience as a CMO before I retrained in counselling, the captain asked me to step in and look after both my department and medical until she found the new CMO. So what happened?" she asked.
Catching the look from Doctor Miller, she continued. "It's nothing drastic. Just some ongoing therapy sessions from my last ship. I prefer to talk things out in a timely manner before they become problems down the road."
"I wish more of you had the same thinking," she said softly. "I'll get something set up and try read up on your prior counsellors notes."
Kyhl smiled warmly. "Thank you doctor. I'm looking forward to having you pick my brain so to speak."
