ON:
Melody had come off duty and swung her quarters to pick up a bottle of Albederan whisky. She was now approaching Caroline quarters. She pressed the chime.
Caroline smiled as she opened the door. She had been expecting this visit. “Evening Mel.”
"Caroline. I thought you and I could have a drink and a little chat about those injections."
“Yes, I figured you would be over ... as soon as you had got the side effects out your system. Starfleet medical sent a further communicee and I would have told you straight away but the computer said you were with Draxx. I figured it was best not to interrupt and wait till you were done,” she smiled.
“I started without you,” she indicated a red wine bottle almost sunk. “I had a chat with my counselor. Feeling marginally better about Ki.” She shrugged.
Melody smiled as she poured two glasses from the bottle she was carrying and handed one to Caroline. "It's a good job you're my friend you know. How did you find out about the side effects?"
"It was in the further communicee but I checked with the computer and it said you were with Draxx, so i didn't want to interupt," she took a sip of whatever Melody had brought and then heaved. She could never drink this like the Captain could. "And I didn't know how long you were going .... to be engaged."
"You know that stuff kicked in almost as soon as i'd left your office." She drained her glass and refilled it. "Draxx is lucky he can walk now. Is this going to happen every time I take one of those?"
"Most likely," she said. "I'm going to suggest perhaps we set up a schedule and ensure you're both there. I can come to administer it in your quarters. It messes with your senses Mel. If you hadn't of got to Draxx then you might have ... found an alternative," she said quietly. "And you wouldn't have been able to help yourself by the sounds of things. Kinda like a weird human pon farr."
"No!" Melody replied a little too loudly and quickly and then collected herself. "Caroline. I don't think you should be there. I don't want you to see what I become..... I had no control and things.... escalated quickly." She added her face turning red. "If we agree on a time, you can monitor my vitals from sickbay or somewhere. Would that be satisfactory?"
"No, Mel as a doctor. A professional do you think I haven't seen everything? I need to be there. This is still very experimental in my view. It needs observation and you need to be safe," she said firmly. "I can only do that if I can be there to take scans and see the effects."
Melody sighed. She had a feeling Caroline wouldn't agree to those terms, so she offered a compromise. "Fine, you can be there to administer the injection and perform a quick follow up scan but then you'll leave immediately afterwards if everything is ok?"
"Better and yes, I don't need to watch you doing the horizontal workout with Draxx," she stated. "I don't need that image running around my brain.
Melody tossed back the contents of her glass and refilled both hers and Caroline's glasses. "You know that stuff really does pack a punch," Melody added with a wry smile. "It might not be only Draxx that I'd be leaping on..." She winked as she clinked their glasses together.
"I'm not that drunk Mel," Caroline said, "But flattered. Thank you."
Melody laughed out loud. "Seriously, It's a good job I managed to get to Draxx when I did, otherwise...." Her voice trailed off and she took a sip of her drink. "Well, some things are best left to the imagination." She focused her attention on what Caroline had been saying. "You were saying you had a chat with your friend about Ki, how did that go?"
Caroline was a little uncomfortable at her CO suddenly letting on that she found her attractive and potentially something could be in her imagination. "Okay .... "she said slowly not sure what else to comment. Her brain caught up with the other question. "It was my counselor. My mentor. Captain Reynolds twin. Liam. He's lovely. He said I shouldn't blame myself. And yeah it's gonna sting for a while."
Melody nodded. "He's right! You shouldn't blame yourself and Ki was a fool for not treating you right. Well," She added, placing her hand on Caroline's. "I'm here if too if you need to talk," Melody said. "Speaking of things stinging for a while, do you mind if we have something to eat? You mentioned you had started drinking before I got here so it might be a good idea and, I'm craving some chicken wings." Melody arose, somewhat unsteadily, and made her way over to the replicator.
"Computer a large helping of chicken wings in BBQ sauce with some sour cream and chive dip on the side." She turned back to Caroline and raised an eyebrow "And for you?"
"Ice cream," Caroline said. "The chocolatey the better."
Melody turned back to the replicator "Access file Jones Alpha 1-5 and add one bowl of death by chocolate and two spoons."
Melody chicken wings and sauce appeared first and Melody brought them over to the table the replicator then produced what could be described as a mountain of chocolate ice cream including cookie pieces, whipped cream, fudge, caramel sauce, chocolate chips, and various other toppings.
Melody explained off Caroline's look of amazement. "Legend has it a certain Counsellor of the Starship Enterprise created this after a visit by a family member, possibly their mother. I managed to get my hands on the replicator pattern at the academy and it's helped me through some.... difficult times."
"Well, who of sane mind would resist that," Caroline said. "I'm going to have to step up my swimming again," she muttered taking a spoonful and savouring it. "Totally worth the exercise."
Melody took another sip of her drink before attacking a chicken wing. " You know, if these injections of yours work, I won't be able to drink this stuff for a while..." She gestured to the bottle. Might join in swimming though, I haven't been in ages." She looked at Caroline. "Looks like things could be changing around here. Also, we need to get you fixed up with a new man. Any ideas on that?"
"Oh Mel I'm not even looking. It'll take someone magical to get me to believe in the idea of getting together with someone again," she stated firmly.
"But yes," she clinked her glass. "To change."
