It was a restless short night for Mathias, trying to take a nap. His mind was not being able to settle down to let him sleep. The surprise arrival of Abigale, and finding out that she knew of Fay, and finding out that she would be the host for Fay. It blew his mind. Years of wondering just what might have been, tumbled about in a rather twisted and bizarre way. He was surprised that he still had feelings for her. Unrequited feelings, Mathias didn't realize he had, until now. Mathias found himself on an emotional merry go round, experiencing anger, happiness, fright, bewilderment, maybe even a little bit of heartache. It felt like the universe decided to hit him with Thor's mighty hammer, Mjolnir and knock him to the ground.

He sat up in his bed, staring at the door of his hotel room. The time was fast approaching, for when Abigale and Fay became one. Throwing the covers to one side, Mathias got out of bed and walked towards the decorative French doors which led out towards the balcony. He loved the view from the balcony, there was a chaise lounge chair on which he could lay, to look at the stars. His bare feet made no sound as he walked across the soft plush, dark green carpeting which reminded him of lush grass.

Mathias paused, catching a glance of himself in the full length mirror on the wall. His hair was in wild disarray, his tee shirt and pajama bottoms, were semi-rumpled from his tossing and turning throughout the night. He stepped out upon the balcony, looking towards the beach then to the ocean beyond. The moon was still up, the stars shining, shimmering, being reflected in the surface of the sea. His attention was caught by movement, it looked like someone was taking a swim.

Perhaps an early morning swim would help to settle him down before the transition, he mused, and went back inside to change. Minutes later, he emerged, walking down the steps which led to the beach. The coolness of the sand felt good against his feet, as Mathias made his way to the water's edge. He looked about, wondering if the lone swimmer had left. He thought he caught his name being whispered on the wind, Mathias scanning around, to see who had called to him. Rising from the water, a head appeared, then the shapely silhouette of a woman. In the light of the full moon, Mathias could catch the hint of long red hair, darkened by the water of the sea.

"Hello Mathias." Abigale greeted him standing mid waist in the water.

"Abigale? I had been thinking of you." he uttered, positively enchanted by how the moonlight danced about her.

"I know." she said with a mysterious smile. "I thought I heard you whisper my name. Come, go swimming with me, like we used to do."

"Yes, let's swim for a short time then may we talk?" Mathias requested, as Abigale came out of the water towards him and took him by the hand, leading him towards the water.

"Yes, I would love that." Abigale responded, then once they were waist deep in water, she dove in, her movements rather graceful.

Mathias soon joined her, swimming and catching up to her and poking at her waist, to make her squeal, much like he had done when a lad. She would return the favor, playing tag and laughing in sheer enjoyment like when they were young. Soon though, she looked towards Mathias, as the hints of the incoming day was approaching.

"Lets go watch the sunrise while we talk." Abigale suggested.

Mathias nodded, and followed her to a rock which jutted out in the water with a flat surface.

"Here is a good spot" she said, climbing out and sitting down. She shivered slightly.

Mathias noting her shiver, sat next to her, wrapping an arm about her, and pulling her close, lending her his warmth.

"What did you want to talk about Mathias?" Abigale murmured.

"I wanted to talk to, you, to try to fit years of separation and mash it all together to catch up, maybe play the what if game. As in what would have happened if I had told you, I really liked you those years back. That may be more of an endeavor, neither of us can truly accomplish." he sighed slightly, thinking of the lost time and the what might have been.

"Oh Mathias, at least we have this moment, this precious time given to us." Abigale stated.

"Abigale, I am feeling such a huge amount of various feelings, among them is a bit of a heartbreak, sadness, anger and bewilderment, happiness that we're right here. And also, desire." Mathias said seriously.

Abigale laughed, slightly amazed that he actually spoke to her about desire. "I desire you too." she uttered. "We could take care of that, we do have time." Wrapping her arms about his waist and snuggling even closer to Mathias.

He could feel himself heat up, the attraction for her was so strong. There was still the small flames of love he had for her when he was young. It was tempting, so tempting, to give into his feelings, his desires, for her. It would be so easy, she offered. He leaned in for a kiss, his lips meeting hers. The sweetness the tenderness, it was like fireworks for him. He pulled back, his breath shaky, looking into Abigale's eyes.

"Come on Mathias, let's go to your room." Abigale said softly, feeling like something momentous was going to happen. She laughed, pulling him eagerly towards his hotel.

Mathias laughed as well, stealing kisses with her and giving her quick embraces. When they reached his room he opened the door, and drew her in. More kissing then... He stopped short.

"What's wrong?" Abigale asked.

"As much as I would love for us to be intimate..." he closed his eyes, giving a shaky breath. "I just can't...."

"Why can't we, why can't you.." Abigale feeling rather disappointed, and perhaps a little bit put out.

"It's just that... when you and Fay join, she will in someway end up being privvy to what was about to happen. I don't want to share what might have happened, with anyone else. I wanted it to be a sweet memory of perhaps something more that could happen, could have developed." Mathias's shoulders drooping a bit. " I am sorry, Abigale." his head hanging down low. "I did want to kiss you, I want to kiss you. To experience what it was like and it was more than what I thought it could be." his head rising up, his eyes earnest with tenderness. "And I wanted to kiss you before the joining happened."

Abigale was angry for a moment, then remembering just how he was in days gone by, her anger faded away, once more smiling.

She pulled him close, "We can at least do that? Kissing?"

He nodded, "Yes, but nothing more beyond."

She playfully pouted, then laughed. "All right Mathias. I will just have to live with that."

A few more minutes of kissing, them on the sofa in his room, then finally coming up for air. Abigale sighed, leaning her forehead against his, " It looks like our training for holding our breath came in handy." giving a bit of a soft laugh."

Mathias chuckled. "I agree wholeheartedly." A glance at the time it was two hours before the exchange. "Abigale, its time for you to get ready, and the same for me." rising up from the sofa, then holding out his hand to her.

Abigale took his hand and got up from the sofa. "I'll be seeing you, Mathias. " she said softly.

Mathias put a robe around her, so Abigale could make it to her hotel room without anyone ogling her in her once piece swim turquoise swimsuit. "I'll see you soon." walking her to the door.

Abigale stopped and looked up into Mathias's eyes, then said, "One more kiss before I go."

Mathias nodded, and obliged, committing to memory this particular kiss, a lingering embrace, then let Abigale go. No other words were spoken as Mathias watched Abigale walk down the hall, and disappear from sight. He closed the door, and walked to the balcony and gazed out towards the sea, caught up in memory.
