Kyhl had remained seated as most of the other senior staff left. In a moment, it was only the three of them in the room. She smiled slightly, hoping to keep the mood casual as she could.

Anya remained seated as requested feeling she had a tirade coming from her superior officer given her taking the lead on the briefing from a medical standpoint. She took a deep breath to steady herself.

Melody came to the two medical officers After the briefing and the others had left. “Now then. What can I do for you?” she asked them with a smile.

"To get straight to the point Captain," Kyhl began. "I believe Doctor Nir'Anyar would be best suited to take the lead of medical on this mission." She paused a moment and let out a small breath. "And going forward."

Certainly not what she had expected, Anya tried to form some words but instead found her mouth was moving imitating that of a fish, not so far removed from her genetic heritage.

Melody regarded the CMO for a moment. “Are you saying you want her to become the Chief medical officer? She's certainly qualified. Are you certain Doctor?”

Looking at Doctor Anya, Kyhl continued. "I'm serious, you're showing a lot of initiative and more than enough capabilities to handle the department. Personally, I've always preferred to be more hands in the procedures than on running a department. I would like to remain on the Merlin, just in more of a doctor capacity and not truly a chief medical officer capacity."

Melody mused for a moment and turned to Anya. “And what are your thoughts on the subject?”

"It is unexpected Captain... I am happy to assume the responsibility, I'm just a little... thrown I suppose by the sudden nature of it!"
It had always been something she had wanted, to become a Chief Medical Officer on a ship but she had assumed it would have been a smaller class like a Sabre or Akira Class on her first outing. The Merlin was a large beast but that said she had become familiar with this place now so the idea did appeal.

Melody looked back and forth between the two of them for a moment. "Well, as I said, you're certainly qualified for the position and I have no objections to the move so it comes down to if you believe you are ready." She looked a firm gaze on Anya.

"You can do this Anya," Kyhl said warmly. "I wouldn't offer if I didn't think you could. Also, I'm still going to be here to help you as much as you need."

"Then I would be happy to accept."
And she knew that the full enormity of the situation would be landing on her lap in due course.

Melody nodded "Very well. I shall update the ship's records. This mission will require a great deal of the medical staff and I'm confident that the both of you and your team will be able to rise to the challenge. I shall need an update on our preparations before we arrive at the colony."

"Aye Captain. We had best get back to it!" Anya addressed her new subordinate... that would take some getting used to.
