ON:
Melody had been napping on her bed in her uniform when it seemed all hell broke loose. She hung on for dear life as it seemed the entire room started to fall apart. When the shaking finally stopped, there was no lights and no sounds to be heard, besides Melody's breathing.
That worried her. Fearing the worst she managed to sit up on the bed and tapped her comm badge. "Jones to bridge! Report!"
No answer.
"Jones to engineering?"
Still no answer
"This is the Captain. Anyone picking up this transmission please respond."
Silence.
She stood and headed for the door which remained she as she approached. She then picked up a backpack into which she loaded an emergy medkit from the bathroom, a tricorder and a phaser. she also found the emergency door opening kit (Which consisted of a hand-operated suction cup) which she fixed to a door panel and started to force the door into the corridor open.
She could tell that main power was offline and the corridor was only illuminated by the red alert strips which were still flashing. She pulled a palm beacon out of her bag and turned it on, the light immediately falling over Lieutenant McPhee lying unconscious on the floor.
"Mathias!" She called out as she came over to him and slowly lowered herself down to kneel by his side, which was not the easiest of things to do in her condition. She pulled out a medical tricorder and scanned him, then in the medical kit found a vial of smelling salts which she cracked open and held under his nose.
His nose wrinkled and Mathias gasped for a moment as he sat upright. "What, where..." he groaned slightly putting his hand against the side of his head. "What in the world happened, and how did I get down here." he looked up and saw Melody kneeling next to him. "Melody, are you okay? I remember coming here to check on you, a strong jolt and me hitting a wall, then nothing more until now with you here. " he moved to get up off the floor and held out a hand and grasped Melody's elbow to help her up. "Let's get you into your quarters."
“It’s not much better in there.” Melody said as she scanned him again with the medical tricorder then put it away, pulling out a normal tricorder. “I’m fine really, but whatever hit the ship we need to find out how bad. I may be pregnant but I’m still the Captain.”
Melody moved over to a wall panel and pulled out a micropower supply from her backpack and connected it. The wall console fluttered to life and Interfacing her tricorder with it, she studied the readout.
“Oh this is very not good. The main computer is out. Main power. and aux power is down too. I’m not getting any readings from the bridge.” She looked at him concerned “I think we have to assume the worst. That everyone on the bridge is dead and there is no one in control of the ship. We should go to main engineering. Now.”
Mathias nodded, "I agree." Then he looked at Melody, "I need to have a look at you as well, Captain." moving over to pick up his bag he had dropped when the jolt hit the ship. He proceeded to run a scan over her. "Then we can head to engineering."
Melody managed a smile "Of course Lieutenant." and she allowed herself to be scanned. "I feel fine though I must admit, I'm not looking forward to crawling through the Jefferies tubes down over twenty decks to get to engineering." She then elaborated off his look "The turbolifts are off-line. You'll just have to let me have a rest every now and then. There's also a supply room down this corridor which should be our first stop, so we can get you fitted with a backpack and gather some supplies."
Mathias nodded, "I've got a bag with some things but it would be best to put it in a backpack to keep my hands free." he stated. "Shall we go, Captain? Or do you want me to call you by your first name?" he was concerned with the crawling they would have to be doing. "And also I might add we need to get some knee pads to protect our knees, it's going to be a rough crawl."
"Good idea, it is at that Mathias. And while it is necessary to maintain the chain of command, I think under these circumstances Melody will be fine." She added with a smile. "Come on... Into the jaws of death, into the mouth of hell rode the six hundred."
