It Begins!

Mission: Disaster!
Location: Main Bridge, USS Merlin
Timeline: 00H00M
1348 words - 2.7 OF Standard Post Measure

ON:

The bridge was illuminated only by the intermittent flashing of the red alert lights and the occasional sparking of several damaged consoles.

The Admiral slowly came round, having been thrown to the floor from the Captain's chair. "Damage report! Is anyone else still with me?"

From the ops console, a groan came back as ensign Ricky came to. "Aye Sir, I'm here. My console is dead. It looks like main power and the main computer is offline. I can't give you any more details yet."

"What the hell happened?" David asked managed to stand up and looked around the devastating bridge.

"I don't know but it felt like we were a rag in a dogs mouth." Ricky responded as he tried to open the access panel where the emergency supplies were located including several first aid and engineering kits.

Miles slowly opened his eyes, but couldn't make sense of what he was seeing. When he tried to raise his head, he banged into something. His voice muffled, as he was jammed under his station, he stated, "I don't remember asking for the near-death experience portion of this ride...um...I think I'm stuck."

Gregor sat up with a groan. " What the hell hit us? did we strike a cloaked mine or what? " Gregor heard Miles comment about being stuck and reached into the compartment and switched on the emergency lantern to provide a light source and looked to where Miles lay. " It looks like you have a brace pinning your legs, I can most likely lift it up high enough to get you clear, But I'm going to need someone to pull you free. " He looked about the bridge. " Is anyone able to help here and pull him free while I lift? " He asked.

The Admiral had mustered the strength to get up and come to the first officer's aid. "Just hang on we'll soon get you free.

From the far side of the bridge, a young ensign was scanning one of the turbo lift doors with a tricorder. "Sir! according to these readings, emergency bulkheads have sealed the turboshafts connecting to the bridge. Right now, we're stuck here.

"Acknowledged... See if you can bring any of the consoles back online. We need to know how badly we've been damaged." The Admiral called back, still helping Gregor to free the XO.

Gregor moved into place and grasped the end of the brace. "Alright Admiral, on the count of three. One, Two Three!!" Gregor strained with all his might and managed to move the brace up about three centimetres. "Pull Sir!! Pull!!"

The two of them managed to move the beam off the first officer. "Somebody get me a medkit." The admiral called out. Ensign Ricky quickly came over and handed a kit to the Admiral. David took the tricorder and scanned Rajel. He had basic medical knowledge, just enough to determine that he wasn't seriously injured. "Well, I don't think we're going to have to amputate anything Commander but I'd feel better getting you checked in sickbay when this is all over."

Lieutenant Sanders who had been underneath the engineering now reappeared as the console flickered for a moment before coming back online.

David walked over. "Good work Lieutenant. Can you give me a damage report?"

Sanders frowned "Both main and auxiliary power is offline, we're running on emergency reserves only. All propulsion systems are offline, so is the main computer and all primary systems. The comm system is down too. I'm picking up sporadic life signs in the saucer section, can't get a reading from the engineering section. It's a real mess Admiral. We're going to need a dry dock to repair this damage."

Gregor stroked his chin. I think we all know that we're going to need at least emergency power brought back online, life support and communications. If communications will be delayed for awhile, I would suggest launching a class nine long range probe with a copy of the ships log and a distress signal with location. " Gregor went to a wall locker and got a tricorder out and clipped it to his belt. " Admiral, If you'd like I could take the Jefferies tube and go down to engineering and get them working on it if they're not already. Or just to see if anyone down there is still alive. " He stated with a grim expression upon his face.

Another bridge crew member spoke up, " Petty Officer MacGuyver, Lieutenant MacPhee and Major Scarlet are somewhere on the ship. "Hope they and the Captain are okay."

Gregor looked to the crewman. " Once we get off the bridge and get communications reestablished we'll get organized search parties out to find everyone we can. We'll give the Captain priority of course considering her condition. " Of course, I'll look for her myself. He thought to himself.

Caroline had been in all places in the sonic shower when the ship started shaking. She was literally thrown out of the booth and sprawled on the floor when the lights lost some power darkening the room. She immediately found her personal medikit and took some scans. Satisified the baby was okay she grabbed some clothes and tried to contact the bridge, to no avail. She decided she was best placed trying to get to counselling and sickbay. Stepping out, panels down the corridor seemingly blown off she could see someone further down the corridor clearly on their way out or back from a shift who had also been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Right in front of a blown out panel.

"Can you hear me?" Caroline said approaching. "I'm going to help you get to sickbay."

" Do you need help? " Came a voice from behind Caroline. " I don't know what happened, but I'm sure there's a number of injured on just about all decks. I'm Lieutenant Kevin Bacon. And you are? "

"Footloose Lieutenant apparently. I'm Counselor Miller. What's happening? Have you any idea?"

" To be honest with you, I was asleep and rudely thrown from my bed. It is not a method of waking up that I'd recommend. The important thing right now is there are people that need help and I'm here to help in whatever manner I can. "

Back on the bridge, the Admiral had heard Gregor recommendation and was weighing his options. Finally, he came to a conclusion "That's a good idea Lieutenant. Our first priority is to clear a path through those emergency bulkheads. We're completely cut off from the rest of the ship until we can get those bulkheads clear. Once we're through I want you to take a team to engineering via the forward torpedo launcher and get that probe away. The rest of you, we need to get the main systems online and try and send a distress call. Let's get to it people."

" Yes Admiral, I'll get on it right away. It should take about twenty to thirty minutes to cut our way through the emergency bulkhead. I'll contact you as soon as we have the com badges up and working again or I'll personally come back to inform you of what I've found out Sir. " Gregor opened the access hatch leading to the emergency bulkhead, There wasn't much in the way of room in there. He pulled a pair of Arc welding glasses from an engineer's kit that was on the bridge and donned them. He got his phaser and adjusted the setting and began the slow process of cutting through the bulkhead,
