309 words; about a 2 minute read
John sat down after changing into his civis and sighed, "computer, begin log," he ordered and waited for the familiar tone that told him it was recording, "Captains log, started 239307.06. Things are moving along well so far. We have gotten our new Company Commander, Tactical and Strategic Operations chiefs as well as our new exec. All seem to be settling in well and it is good to have Kovac here. I wish the change in exec hadn't had to happen, but, such is life in Starfleet," Apollo said and looked at the picture of his daughter, "I still haven't had time to call Earth and talk to Sierra. I miss her, but, I hope she understands that I'm not choosing my job over her. Talking with Lieutenant Tan about his family and his situation made me think about my own.
"While I cannot have my daughter here I saw no reason to put him through the same with his family," he said and paused again, taking a drink of the coffee sitting next to his terminal, "I am still impressed with my crew at large. My department heads are some of the brightest I've met and watching them I can see how well they mesh together. It's great to see happening so quickly, all to often you see a new crew coming together and there is an awkwardness until they get to know each other.
"We should arrive at Hayes in the next three days. After we're done at Hayes, two or three days on station, we'll be heading across Romulan space and into deep space. I've asked Llewellyn and Jones to pick out a few places to stop, having the Romulan space open to us is a chance I don't want to pass up. Computer, make a note to schedule a briefing with the Lieutenants and end log."
