Mission: Old, New Ship
Location: Spaceport
639 words - 1.3 OF Standard Post Measure

ON:

She was running. Always running. An eerie green light filled her vision and in the shadows moving, she knew they were there. Following her. No matter how fast she ran, they would always catch her

“We are the Borg, you will be assimilated! Resistance is futile!” The disembodied voice came from all around her.

And still she ran, then a hand on her shoulder! Searing pain!!! Screaming! Screaming!!!!!!!!!!!

Her nightgown was slick with sweat as she bolted upright in bed. Her red hair, matted, clung to her face and shoulders. She was breathing heavy, her heart racing!

It took a good few minutes for her heart rate to slow as she realised she was safe in her quarters on the space station. In the low light she could see her travel bag packed and ready at the end of the bed. The rest of her personal effects had been beamed to the Merlin already.

She got up and went to the small bathroom to the left of the room. Sticking her hand under the tap, she quickly splashed her face with cold water, then paused as she scrutinized her face in the mirror. Although she looked 24 years of age, technically she had only been alive for 14. Her appearance and some of her silver quick intelligence was thanks to 3 months in a Borg maturation chamber.

The nightmares, which came every now and then, were a harsh reminder of her past. She took a few minutes to take stock of her appearance. Her long hair framed her face; her green eyes seemed to shimmer in the light. The water on her face made it glisten. The rise and fall of her chest which had been very rapid had slowed considerably as she slowly started to calm down.

“Computer, play Jones music selection 12, beginning at track 3. 50% volume.” The computer chirped, which was then replaced by Debussy’s ‘Clair De Lune’. She closed her eyes and took several deep breaths as the music worked itself into her frazzled nerves and when she open them again she felt more human once again, despite one or two Borg implants which were left on her arms and body.

Walking back into the bedroom, continuing to let the music sooth her, she picked up the padd with her latest orders on.

She was excited and looking forward to her new assignment, straight out of the academy, with a promotion to boot as well. She wished her parents could have been there. She imagined how proud they would have been of her. As she had been rescued from the Borg, her parents had not been so fortunate.
The computer beeped again – interrupting her reverie, and her music “The time is 0500 hours”

“Acknowledged” she answered with her light, lyrical voice. Turning to her wardrobe she picked up the last and only item in it, her new regulation uniform. Flinging it onto the bed, she walked back into the bathroom

“Computer, activate sonic shower”

20 minutes later she was taking the last look round her quarters before picking up her travel bag and walking out into the corridor.

Stepping into the closest tubolift she turned.

“Transporter room 3” she said and the lift quickly sprang into life. Less than 30 seconds later the lift came to a stop and she stepped out and strode with purpose towards the transporter room.

“Good morning lieutenant. Sleep well?” The chief on duty greeted her as she walked in.

Pushing the night’s unpleasantness aside, she turned and smiled “Yes, thank you.” She replied “One to transport over to the Merlin please.

“Sure thing. I’ve hear it’s a hell of a ship, I’m sure your going to have a great time” The chief smiled as she punched in the co-ordinates.

“Thanks chief. Energise”
