Richard rounded the corner in the corridor with his hands behind his back and a smile. Her asked if he could stay abored and fill the vacant counselor position until Starfleet could send someone full time, now that Sag was settled into her new position. Merlins command had signed off after looking through his service record. So, now he wanted to go meet with Doctor Miller and let her know he was around if need be. The Marine walked into sickbay and moved over to the registration and intake desk, "excuse me, is Doctor Miller in?" he asked and leaned with both arms on the highest part of the desk.
She's just in with a patient Kevin the receptionist told him. Take a seat, I will let her know you are here mister?" he said.
"Doctor Johnson...." Wolf said then paused, "make that Doctor Wolf, Doctor Johnson sounds to much like a bad stage name if you know what I mean," the Marine corrected with a laugh.
A couple of minutes later a blond human in a lab coat headed in their direction. She looked slightly worried. When the receptionist pointed out the man to her and mentioned his position her expression went to one of relief. She approached him with a smile. "Dr Miller. I understand we have a counselor at last. I am so happy to have you with us."
Richard stood and smiled, "Richard Johnson," the Marine replied and extended his hand, "most just call me Wolf though, its good meet you. And thank you, its good to be here," he added, "impressive set up you have in here."
"Thank you. Lets go to my office and I can bring you in on the current case load," Caroline stated. As they walked the distance between the reception area and up to her office she asked him. "Why do people call you Wolf?"
Richard grinned, "well, when I was first in flight school I howeled when I got a kill and they started calling me Wolf...and the name kinda stuck after a few drunk nights where I howeled at the moon," he said with a chuckle, "I was happy to go by that though, I'm sure you can imagine the fun my drill instructors had with my name," he added as they walked into her office.
"I am sure it was," Caroline returned the grin. She was not sure she could see herself referring to him as Wolf. "Would you like anything?" she indicated the replicator.
"Coffee, black please," Johnson replied with a smile, "I forgot How long patrol duty could last," he said with a chuckle.
Caroline replicated the coffee and a latte for herself. Settling down in her chair opposite she took a sip, gave herself a moment to savour it and turned to him ready for business.
"So we have two ex-Borgs on staff. Very different situations. I'm trying to bring myself up to speed with the physiology. Whether there are some psyche issues there - I imagine there are. To make you aware - the 2O and Engineering chief.
Lieutenant Ikiri is also regaining his Betazed telepathic abilities. We are attempting to stagger his exposure. There is a ..... Well some sort of dampening field around sickbay at present so he's only exposed to the staff's thoughts. The plan is to gradually make that field smaller. Physically he's showing fine recovery in his paracortex. I am certainly not equipped to deal with the emotional changes from the return of his telepathy. So I am very glad to finally have a professional with us."
"Interesting and glad to be of help," Richard replied with a smile.
The XO is going through something too. I am monitoring him to get an idea as to what's going on but out of the blue I had to repair a lung. Oh and I suspect the Captain has PTSD. Well I am pretty sure on that but I can't tell you everything as the details are classified. But if you could get him to open up to you then some therapy sessions would be very beneficial. I think your up to speed."
Johnson nodded and raised an eyebrow in almost Vulcan like fashion as he took a sip of the coffee, "...very interesting. Do you know the cause of his lung failing? And just how far gone is the Captain?"
"I suspect a parasite but have been unable to find one. So I am wondering if it's a throwback from his exposure to the Niga virus. I have been trying to get more information on it than just his medical file. Perhaps some of the research on the sampling done," Caroline answered.
"And as for the Captain, I don't know. All I do know is he is having problems sleeping."
Richard just nodded, "I see. Well, I'll set up appointments with all three starting with Lieutenant Ikiri....is the Captain one of those CO's I'm going to get a security escort to get him to my office?"
"I haven't needed too," Caroline said simply thinking back to the man taking it upon himself to come see her after the drills. "My take on him is if your straight with him, he's straight with you." She didn't mention the CO's uncanny ability to keep getting her in her underwear.
Wolf nodded and gave the Doctor a smile, "outstanding then. That was why I came back to being a Marine, it was easier to find an enemy soldier hiding from me than a CO avoiding his counseling session," he added with a chuckle, "is there anything else you need from me?" he asked.
Caroline shook her head. "Other than to tell you weekly staff meetings are Wednesday mornings and welcome aboard."
"Alrighty, then, and thank you," the Marine Counselor replied with a smile before sitting forward, "I guess I'll start with Lieutenant Ikiri, if he's up for visitors?"
"I think so, we are keeping the dampening field round sickbay so he can get used to the telepathy slowly. It would probably be a good plan for you to be involved before we widen that field," She told him.
Wolf nodded, "can do. I should also tell you, I'd like to hang out around sickbay over the next few weeks under the guise of flirting with your Nurses. I'd like to see who your regulars are and no ones going to give a Marine trying to pick up the attractive medical staff a second thought," he explained with a grin, "I won't keep them from their duties and I'll stay out from under foot."
"If you want to see who the regulars are Kevin can show you. No one comes through here without being logged in the system," Caroline replied. " I think the patients flirting with them is enough don't you? These ladies have studied for years and they are professionals not eye candy. I'd rather we keep a professional atmosphere in sickbay and avoid staff flirting with each other or any illusions around flirting. We do not need it encouraging further. Out of hours fine but when it comes down to life and death I don't want to be chasing a colleague who is getting sweet talked in a corner. And your not here as a marine, your here as a counsellor, so will be viewed as such."
Wolf winced and was about to explain but caught himself, he hadn't explained fully and to try now would just make it worse, and he knew her now blown the first impression, "my apologies, I didn't mean that as degrading and utterly asinine as it came out," he replied genuinely, "and understood," he added, shifting in his chair.
Caroline nodded, completely at a loss why he would have tried that. Maybe that's how marines behaved. That their mentality was shoot things and flirt. She would have to study them more to come to a proper conclusion. "Well shall I take you to Lieutenant Ikiri?" She said.
Richard nodded and stood with a smile, "of course, thank you."
