Medical Emergency?

Mission: Old, New Ship
Location: Sickbay
824 words - 1.6 OF Standard Post Measure

Lieutenant Cale Llewellyn was seated in his office checking a departmental flow-chart when he was stricken by a headache the likes of which he had never felt before. He debated in calling the doctor but then decided to simply go to Sickbay. He got up from his desk and made his way there. Entering the turbolift, he said "Sickbay." and he was underway. As he got off the turbolift, he asked the computer where on this deck Sickbay was. "Primary Sickbay is on Deck 7, Section Alpha 3," replied the computer.

"Thank you, Computer," Llewellyn said as he continued on his way to Sickbay. As he entered Sickbay, he looked around for a doctor.

Caroline had started doing a stock take and making sure all the supplies were in the correct lockers as they were still awaiting medical staff joining the ship. Her next port of call after this long job she had decided was to decide which of the 4 EMH's to activate. Prefably with a large cup of coffee.

She saw the white haired male enter. Smiling, she popped down the vials of Hetoprax 7 and walked over. "Can I help you?"

"Actually Doctor, it may be nothing but I seem to have come down with a terrible headache," answered Lieutenant Llewellyn. "But it could be a migraine.

"Do you get migraines a lot?" Caroline asked. The closer she got to him the more vivid his eyes seemed to be. She had blue eyes also but they weren't as deep as the pair staring back at her. "What were doing before and at the time your headache started?" she asked trying to diagnose if it was brought on by environmental or emotional factors.

"Actually, this is my first. I was working in my office studying a departmental flow-chart," Cale said. He had to admit that the only symptom was photo-sensitivity.

"Its not your first," Caroline said pulling out and scanning him with her tricorder. "Its a tension headache. I think perhaps you were studying your flow chart too enthusiastically." She grinned at him. She wandered over to one of the lockers and pulled out a vial, loading it into a hypo spray on her return. "This should take the edge off. Neck please,"

Cale turned his head and bared his neck for the doctor. "Thanks Doctor Miller," he said with great reverence. He had always held doctors in high esteem. Even when he was a child. But he couldn't help but chuckle at the studying comment. He had toyed with the idea of getting an advanced degree or two.

"I recommend regular breaks," she said seriously. "And if you feel one coming on again, ginko and peppermint tea. How do you like the ship Lieutenant?"

Cale ran a hand against his neck where the doctor had injected him. "Thank you, Doctor. This was much appreciated. I have only been aboard for a day but this ship is an immense undertaking from an engineering stand point. But I find it a welcoming place. How do you find it?"

"Its a lot bigger than I imagined. My last sickbay was about half the size of this. I am sure I will get lost several times," she grinned at him. "Lieutenant, I was wondering if I might ask a favour?" He was the science chief, the pips, colour of his uniform and the dazzling white hair told her that much from her initial read over the senior staffs personal files earlier. She had not memorised much yet though.

"Go ahead, Doctor. I am at your disposal," Cale said flashing one of his trademark grins.

"Well I like to use my herbal rememdies as well as proper medicine and was wanting to have some space to grow some plants and herbs. Would I be able to pinch a little part of a science lab and have some help to modify it for growth?" she asked.

"Most definitely, Doctor. Most definitely. I think I could give you an entire lab, if you like?"

"That is very generous and thank you," Caroline said happily. She had her plant samples and cuttings in cryo storage already. As soon as she could get a lab modified she could get to planting. When he smiled again she made an observation. "We are going to have to make sure you don't end up down here to often Lieutenant. With cheek bones and a smile like that, my nurses are in danger of being all a tizz around you."

"Thanks for the thought, Doctor," Cale said smiling one of his patented smiles.

"Just don't break any hearts, promise that," she said protectively.

"Consider it done, Doctor. I promise not to break any hearts."

"Good good," she said not quite convinced. "Well if there anything further I can do for you?"

"No Doctor, there is nothing else I need at the moment. Thank you for your help."
