Elias was escorted into sickbay by one of his Corpsmen holding a compression bandage to his dead left arm. Looking the room over, he found Sgt. West on a Bio-bed. He started to walk over and was firmly stopped. The corpsmen led him over to his own Bio-bed and was made to sit. Elias kept watch Wast as he waited. It wasn't something he was unaccustomed to, but it still troubled him.
"Hey," Caroline said appearing. She had Ikiri's staff working on hooking up the bio pods they had managed to retrieve and two of her nurses keeping an eye on the vitals of those pods. They were ready to call her if engineering were not able to stabilise them. She was also relieved to have marines in sickbay in case that happened. "Lets take a look at that," she said softly. She noticed his eyes flick back and forth to the other marine West. "We are doing everything we can Lieutenant."
She was scanning the extent of the burns and nerve damage first and then grabbed a hypo spray. "This will help with any residual pain and the shock,"
"I know Doc. This job never seems to get any easier." he grunted and turned to see her looking his arm over.
The blaster had severed through his radial nerve and damaged others so at present much of his arm would just be feeling as dead weight. "I can fix up the burns with a dermal regenerator but I'm afraid we will need to do some surgery to reconnect and regenerate the nerves in your arm. You will probably need some physio afterwards, it was quite severe." She told him. She didn't really need too knowing he was sat that feeling like he had lost a limb right now. At least though, it would be temporary. The only thing she was worried about was whether he would experience some psychological phantom twinges from it once it was healed. It had been known to happen. Luckily though, they had a counsellor at present, who as a bonus used to be a marine. So it was likely that Johnson would have experience with that sort of thing.
"West was one of the three marines I brought with me when I came to the Merlin. I'm certain that he'll pull though this." He said wishfully. Then he looked at his arm. "I'm starting to think i'm getting too old to be playing this ruff with the Romulans."
Caroline shook her head, "I can tell you Lieutenant bar your injured arm your in good health and I for one am glad we had you and your experience on that away mission."
"It's not just me. I have a good team, just like you.
"Doctor engineering are struggling with the pods," one of the nurses came flying up to her. "They haven't managed to find a comparable energy source and the pods have started to fail."
Caroline rubbed her eyes for a moment in pure horror. Bairstow was not going to like this but the hypocratic oath meant that she had a duty to preserve life. "Take over here nurse. Get the Liuetenant prepped for surgery. We will get to sorting your arm as soon as this situation is stable."
"Understood Doctor." Elias replied. The look on her face spoke volumes. However, felt that she was a strong person and seemed to be on top of things.
"If they can't power the pods, does that mean what I think it does?" He asked the nurse that came over.
"It means that the occupants in the pods have to come out," the nurse said. "Or they will not survive."
"Well we don't want them to die. After all we went through room save them. " Elias said.
The nurse nodded. "I know but ..... well the Captain didn't want this happening. I'm just glad your here sir. You and the Marines, you know just in case. These ancient aliens are like nothing we have encountered before."
"Well I really don't know what good I'll be with one arm." He replied watching what was going on. "Why don't you just use a dermal regenerator on the arm for now. This looks like it going to get pretty involved. And can I have a sling?"
The nurse nodded and went to work getting him in the sling. "How does that feel sir? Comfortable?"
The lack of movement in his left arm lessen the dull pain. "Works for me. Thank you." He said getting up. He tried to stay out of the way as he took up a potion by the Romulans. Just in case their guest didn't want to behave or wake up.
