==== Deck 4, Tactical Information Center ====
The doors opened onto a nice, ultramodern Tactical and planning space within the USS Merlin. There were planning consoles, space object information tracking consoles, Computer database access and display consoles, communication array consoles, and in the middle a Real Time Space Tracking Holographic system. Sav stepped into the large space, her eyes wide, taking in the tech around her. She moved to the side to allow Brenda into the space with her. The doors closed behind them.
Sav breathed out, "Wow. This... is.. COOL!" She turned to Brenda, joy on her face and excitement showing in her movements and her tail flicking.
Brenda Aumento smiled and looked all around. "Can't argue with you there sir." Even if she hadn't been warned not to interfere, she felt doubly certain that she didn't want to touch anything in this room for fear she'd pick the one 'blow up the ship right now' button.
Sav came further into the room, looking about, "Okay, who is Strat Ops, who is Strat Ops.. " She looked puzzled, then winked to Aumento, "Hmm, let me see...." As she looked for who was in charge, unseen behind her, she touched a control surface and dived into Merlin, asking who was Chief Strat Ops. In less time than it took to touch the console, Sav knew who it was. She smiled to Aumento, "There he is, common, let's go introduce ourselves."
"Right behind you sir." Brenda replied cheerfully.
Sav wove her way through the space and personnel, hand on Aumento to help guide her. She ended up before Lt. Martin Landau, and saluted to him, "Lieutenant Landau, Lt. Save'ena Tillatix, CAG, at your service." She dropped the salute. "I am here for cross-training in the TIC for a few shifts. The Captain is also going to have some platoon Marines com in and watch, you know, get some insight to how it is handled here to get better ideas of what and how for ground operations." She motioned to Crewman Brenda Aumento, "And she is my shadow, getting OJT on following me around for today."
Brenda offered a quick wave. "Hello sir."
"Welcome" Martin gestured "Do things usually move this quick for an officer on his second day aboard the ship. If your here for training then its both of us being trained" Landau explained
Sav churred, responding, "Second day for you too, huh? I just arrived yesterday, in a Valkyrie, myself." She looked at the imaging system. "Have you had a chance to play with it, Sir? And, umm, would you mind if I took a try?"
"Not even had a chance to study the manual yet. I know how to do my job but this part is totally new to me seems way above my pay grade but if you want this rooms yours if i cant figure it out" Martin replied.
Sav churr-laughed, the sound very exotic. "Naah, it's still yours, Lt. Landau. But, I will gladly take you up on your offer to play a bit."
Sav moved forward and put her hands upon the controls for the RTHSS, or Realthss as it was sometimes called. She churred gently as she used her cyberapathy to quickly gain the knowledge of what controls and where. It was similar to her advanced university training, but some systems designed more for warfare rather than commercial use. To anyone watching, she looked like she was looking over the display and controls for a split second.
Sav's fingers hit a couple of interface buttons and the display shifted to zoom in on the Merlin, which was in the center of the spherical view. "There we go, now, the asteroid field over there..." The display now accelerated to shift to have the Merlin to the far side while the first part of the asteroid field nearby was in the screen. "Okay, on it, and, we zoom in.." Now the display showed the incoming sensor data for the asteroid field. The display was now showing asteroids, but in a funny way. The asteroids in direct sight of the Merlin were fully there, but there were partial asteroids appearing and disappearing beside and partially behind the asteroids in front.
Sav studied the readouts and what was missing. What was here definitely only showed partially what her internal spatial sense was telling her. She hrmmphed out, "The real time is only showing that which it can pick up. It is not doing any course plotting or conjectures for the objects in its sensor field that are being hidden and then exposed by the asteroids in front."
Sav shook her head, "One would think that type of tactical information would be displayed with possible plot courses with three vector paths of most likely to second to third. That way as paths are verified, the true paths can be adjusted for and the asteroids, even going into sensor 'shadows', would still be plotted and shown with a mark showing not in sensor but should be tracking this way. Other information, such as a ship hiding, can be found by how the vector information becomes off." She turned towards Martin, "Anyways, plot conjecture information is not on. So, Lt. Landau, would you like to play? It's fun."
"Pass" Martin gestured "It seems way to complex for my brain to handle even though us Centaurians are super smart this is something even I cant figure out but i shall give it a go if needs must"
Sav quirked her head as a puzzled expression came over her face and muzzle. She was not sure where this was going as the Chief of Strat Ops took a place up at the Realthss.
Landau touched a button which made funny noises then started doing weird things so he gave the table a good kick watching the officer get an astonished look on her face, then raise an eyebrow at him. He touched another button it did something different so he kicked the table again noticing the officer's tail flicked as her ears full cupped onto the console so he kicked it again noticing it doing weird and odd things which looked like sort of the modern version of the blue screen of death.
Sav had a very confused look on her face as the minor kicks he had performed should not have even interrupted the display output. TiC was was needed in battles and its information could be life or death for a starship. The Realthss was supposed to be built to withstand considerable damage and continue to work until which time self destruct or abandon ship was ordered. Of course, Sav was the proverbial 'stick in the mud' when it came to any kind of practical jokes, and so maybe this was one? She looked at Brenda to see how her security crewman was taking what the Strat Ops Officer was doing.
Brenda just kept a silent watch on the pair as she took the occasional note.
"it seems I have crashed the system and royally broken it or totally destroyed it either way its busted either way this junk don't work. I'm never touching it again without reading the operating manual first" Landau explained watching Sav burst out laughing
Figuring it had to be a practical joke on newbies coming in for training at Strat Ops, Sav finally settled in and Churr-laughed in her erotic and exotic melodic laughing. "Good one, Sir, you had me going." She smiled to him, "You know, if you 'REALLY' don't know how to operate this, you have officers and enlisted who will do it for you. After all, your here for your tactical ability and leaps of intuition about a situation that keeps the Merlin Safe, not to 'just' operate the equipment in here, right? So, Sir, may I?," Sav gestured at the equipment.
"Sure at least I won't break it again when it's fixed" Martin gestured looking at Sav
Sav dropped down onto her knees and removed a seam wrench from her duty sashe. She proceeded to drop several panels down around the area that Martin had kicked. She frowned as she saw several modules slightly out of place, the lock-downs missing their screws. Saying out loud, "Aha,", she reached in and touched a side module, data checking with the main control auxiliary computer control node what the order and placement of the modules were. Then entire console powered down, the holographic display disappearing.
Using both hands, Sav pulled out several modules, going around the center console and pulling more, crawling around on hands and knees, not even thinking about her actually lovely rear being shown off to those in TiC. Several crewman had a wonderful time with watching and whispered comments. Sav heard none of this as she was engrossed in her work. The final needed module pulled out, Sav said, "Okay, stand back, power coming up."
The RealTHSS came online, showing diagnostics check mode, level 4. Sav put in a far module and waited a few seconds for a green marker to appear. She put in the next correct module, waiting again for the green marker. It took 10 minutes of this tedious work, but soon all modules were in and the system came back up, the holodisplay blossoming out into its showing of the Merlin and nearby space around it.
Now Sav returned to the far panel, putting the lockdowns on the modules inside in place, then putting the panel in place. She moved around, still on hands and knees, doing the same for the other panels she had removed. However, on the final one, buttocks in the air, head down, she seemed to be reaching along the floor under the modules. Shortly, she churred out, "GOTCHA!" Sitting up, she had three secure ties in hand. With these, she now put into place the missing three lockdowns that allowed Martin's kicks to loosen those three modules to begin with. She stood upright, saying, "Okay, Sir, when needed to be kicked, it'll handle it now without dying." She grinned, "I'm a trained Damage Control Officer, Control systems and Aux Computers, so not a problem."
"I think we should leave it alone for today before someone destroys it beyond repair. I think that's enough training for today which means I must brush up on the manual before using it again or breaking it again" Landau explained walking over to the desk to sit down
Sav followed Martin to his desk as he talked to Brenda and her. Sav saluted, "Sir, yes sir." She churred gently, "I will be back tomorrow right after lunch. Thank you for this opportunity, Sir."
"Nice meeting you Lieutenant, Carter might be more help than me for training if you see him around give him a nudge." Martin gestured
Sav nodded, "Carter, yes Sir. Thank you again." She turned to Brenda, "Crewman Aumento, ready for the drop bay? I have to check on how the maintenance is going. New parts never just 'drop in'."
"Right behind you sir." Brenda replied quickly and briskly.
Sav moved around the RealTHSS and personnel to get out of Martin's hair and proceed to deck 40 and the Drop Bay Maintenance areas. She glanced behind her to make sure Brenda was was following and not getting caught in the hubbub of TiC.
