ON:

Caleb understood the need for physicals, so, unlike some other Starfleet Officers, he didn't mind getting them, and he didn't hide or try to get out of having them done. So, after he had his meeting with the Captain and putting some of his things away in his cabin, he made his way to the ship's sickbay.

Caroline was sat thumbing through a PADD with a journal on, on one of the couches in sickbays reception. Kevin, her receptionist had brought her over the most divine mocha latte. She had to get the recipe off him. She smiled sipping it. She really ought to start taking her breaks out of sickbay but that wasn't winning out at present. She looked up in interest at the stranger. He was wearing Medical and counselling colours. She waited to see what he said to reception taking another sip of her coffee.

Caleb was used to much smaller Sickbays. He'd been expecting to just walk in and find a doctor. As the doors slid shut behind him, two things surprised him. The first was the size of the Sickbay, the second was the rather attractive receptionist seated directly in front of him.

Managing, barely, not to stammer he gave the man, his best disarming smile and said, "Good morning, I'm Caleb Mitchell, the new Counselor, and I'm here for my physical."

"You don't seem to have an appointment Counselor," Kevin replied pulling up the day's schedules. He cocked his head to the right, Blond strands of his fringe falling that direction. "Doctor Miller, would you like me to book an official appointment or might you be able to squeeze Mr Mitchell in?"

Caroline grinned as the man in question turned around and locked eyes with her. After a moment she bookmarked where she was on the PADD and stood up walking towards the reception desk and both mean. Placing her coffee pot down, she quipped. "We will need more Coffee. Would you mind?"

"Not at all boss," the blond man grabbed the cup and walked towards a replicator at the back.

"Come on, this way," Caroline said to the newcomer.

After a quick glance at the retreating receptionist, Caleb said, "Thank you, for seeing me, without an appointment. Your sickbay is quite large. I guess I should have been expecting it, given the size of the ship, but I was."

"Yes, it's quite something isn't it?" Caroline replied. "I never expected it to be so big too when I got here. I keep thinking if my little part of the ship is this size I wonder how big other places are. Can you take a seat for me?" she indicated the biobed in the area they had just arrived.

"So," she continued as he hopped on the bed. She held a hand out. "Dr Caroline Miller. Ships chief medical officer."

He took her hand and shook it firmly but not too firmly. He was smiling when he replied, "I'm Caleb Mitchell, the ship's new chief counselor. Glad to meet you and I'm really glad to be here.

"Glad to have you on-board," Caroline said running her hands on the biobed controls. "Height, weight, blood pressure all look great. You have perfect eyesight. You look to be in perfect health physically. Obviously,I can clear you pending your psyche review with another counsellor."

"Of course not," Caleb responded, "I wouldn't expect you to and I am planning on meeting with the man I'll be replacing to meet those requirements.

The door opened and the blond man walked in again holding 2 cups of steaming coffee. "I'll pop them down here boss," he said softly. "Thank you, Kevin," Caroline said over her shoulder.

"He makes amazing coffee," she said to Caleb.

Caleb, who wasn't overly fond of coffee, nevertheless took the cup, smiling at Kevin again before he departed. His eyes lingered for just an instant longer than they probably should have at the retreating figure, but not quite to the point he would consider staring and after he had taken a drink replied, "I bet he does."

"Well, I guess I will have to come for my psyche review. Shall we schedule it now," Caroline grinned.

"You're in good luck," Caleb told her, "I came here right after checking in with the Captain and you're the only other one that I've talked to. I'm going to go get my own evaluation from Major Johnson next, so I can be cleared for duty. You'll get to be my first patient. What about the day after tomorrow around 0730, just before you start your shift, or later in the day if you prefer and can get away from Sickbay.

"Let's make it at the end of my shift if you don't mind," Caroline replied. "After 1500 would be good."

He made sure to mark the time down in his PAaD before jumping down from the biobed. As he was leaving he stopped by the reception desk and once again smiled at the man behind the desk. "Thanks for your help and the coffee Kevin," he said, "we should probably schedule a time for your evaluation if you haven't had one recently, and maybe even get together for drinks?"

The blond receptionist looked confused. "I have already had my annual psych evaluation and we do not know each other. Why would we get drinks together?" he asked.

Color rose to Caleb's face and he tried to recover as best as possible. "I didn't realize that you'd had your evaluation, I'd just made one with your boss and was trying to cover all my bases. As far as the offer for drinks, I may have had ulterior motives, but I guess I may have been wrong about my assumptions, perhaps it was just wishful thinking on my part. "

It took Kevin a long moment but then his face betrayed understanding. "Oh OHH I see. Erm well yes, you were. I'm flattered of course but I like the ladies."

"I understand, and they're lucky to have you on their team,"But we could still have some drinks."

"No thank you," Kevin said simply.

"Not a problem," Caleb said, with a shrug of his shoulders.
