Getting Cleared

Timeline: Current
1122 words - 2.2 OF Standard Post Measure

Apollo stepped off the lift and readjusted the bag he was holding over his shoulder. He had finished meeting with the senior staff who had already arrived so he decided to take the doctors bag to her and get his physical out of the way. He had changed into his fatigues, only he had left it at just his dark green tshirt instead of pulling his jacket on over. Barstow chuckled as a few officers stopped to ask him if he needed help and asked if he was a new crewmember. John finally walked into sickbay and looked around, the memories of his injuries he sustained before going to Earth causing the side of his face that had been grafted back to twitch, "Doctor?" he asked and moved forward deeper into the bay.

"Doctor Miller is in her office," one of the young nurses said not realizing it was in fact their CO. "It's this way," she smiled indicating he follow her. "Doctor Miller, there's a gentleman asking for you," she stated when the door to the cmo's office opening.

Caroline smiled as she recognized him. "Captain. Twice in one day. Please come in. Thank you Tara."

The other lady looked mortified. "Captain. I'm so sorry. I wasn't aware .. " she stuttered.

Apollo smiled, "it's alright, I'm incognito right now," he replied with a wink then walked in the office and unslung the bag, "well, you forgot something earlier and I figured we may as well get the physical out of the way since I had to come down with this anyway. You came up with a pretty good plan," he added with a smirk.

"Ah yes. What a cunning plan!" Caroline said teasingly. She had been wondering where that had got too and was actually mortified her own ditziness had lead her to leave something in the CO's office after reporting in. But as he seemed to think it had been deliberate and he was amused she wouldn't let on. "Thank you for returning it. Shall we then, this way," she got up and lead Captain Barstow to one of the bio beds outside. Tara was looking on adoringly. It seemed all her nurses were crushing on the male senior staff so far.

"You used to be a marine right sir?" Caroline asked as she activated the beds sensors and pulled out a tricorder. "You seem to be in good shape. Height and weight all in normal parameters for your frame. How are you finding the change from your role being I imagine more physical to more desk and bridge bound?" She asked, leaning forward to push another button. A strand of stray hair fell in front of her eyes, Caroline sweeping it back as she returned to her previous position finding his eyes as she gave him her full attention again.

"Yup, I was he replied then thought for a second and met her eyes, "well, once you reach a certain rank in either branch the physical starts becoming a memory and humping the pine, as they say, becomes more of the job. For the most part, though, I'm liking this role. We'll see how I feel once the action starts, though, I've never been much of a backseater," John replied with a chuckle, "I plan to train with our Marine Company and security to keep up the physical, though. The part I am going to miss is jumping off the deck at full impulse with my bird strapped on."

"Interesting euphemism," Caroline raised an eyebrow at the humping the pine reference. As for his last sentence she was completely at a loss. Obviously it was something to do with flying. She checked his blood pressure and was happy to see the numbers returned. "Blood pressures dead on."

"Any headaches, blurriness, loss or gain in appetite?" She reeled off the usual questions. She stopped for a moment, she was going to have to ask. "Bird strapped on sir?"

John chuckled then nodded, "pilots call fighters birds and rather then strapping in the cockpit we say we strap it on," he explained then shook his head, "a little bit of loss of appetite, but I attributed that to not burning as many calories right now."

Caroline still didn't really get it but she smiled. "Probably but make sure you eat enough to sustain yourself or your metabolism will take a hit and that will upset things when you start training again. How are your teeth?"

"Alright far as I know," Apollo replied with a shrug, "I have a problem with grinding them sometimes, but they seem alright. So, am I the perfect specimen doc?" he asked with a smirk.

"I'm afraid not, you didn't walk in here with chocolate," Caroline quipped. "But I do want to get a dental nurse to look at your teeth. As soon as one arrives. I'll get it scheduled. But everything else, let's say almost perfect shall we? Certainly fine to be fully cleared for duty."

John smiled, "well, damn, I'll make a note for next time," he replied then nodded, "alright, sounds good. They should be aboard before we launch."

"Excellent. And thank you for returning my bag to me," she said sheepishly.

John stood up and gave a dismissive waive, "not a problem, Doc. Have the rest of the senior staff reported?" he asked, wanting to make sure no-one skipped their checkup.

"They have yes sir," she said. She couldn't tell him her concerns about the XO of course unless he had a further incident with alcoholism and it compromised something, such was the Doctor - patient confidentiality but she would certainly be keeping a close eye on him.

"Outstanding," the CO replied with a smile, "alright, I'll get out of your hair before I distract your staff further," he said with a smirk, having seen the glances from the nurse, "I may come back more often though, it's doing wonders for my ego," he added in a low voice jokingly.

"Feel free Captain but I fear you may have to get in line after Lieutenant Llewellyn. He made quite a splash with the nurses earlier,"

Bastow chuckled, "hmm, I don't think I can compete with him," he joked then gave a quick nod, "alright, doctor, if you need anything let me know and I'll make sure you get it."

Caroline nodded. So far she had only had to get tough with one senior officer. She called that a good day. "Goodbye sir."

The CO gave a nod and walked back out into the corridor with his hands clasped behind his back. He wasn't headed home just yet, it was time to tour the ship top to bottom, every deck, and get reacquainted with her.
